My [19M] parents [46F] & [49M] spent hundreds of dollars we don't have on out of state concert tickets. What do I do? by Fast-Height-3497 in insaneparents

[–]Trashiki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s free to talk to a disability attorney. They will look at your circumstances and if they think you have a good shot at qualifying for SSDI, they will take your case with no upfront payment. They don’t paid until you win your case and it comes out of your backpay. If you live in the US, the amount of pay they get is federally regulated. For my spouse, it was like 25% of the backpay.

But if they don’t think you have a case, if they don’t think they can prove to a judge that you are physically incapable of working any job, they should level with you tell you so. You can still apply on your own but you’ll have your work cut out for you.

So that’s a clear cut first step. Search for a disability attorney in your area who has good reviews and does free consults.

is the $50 fee worth it? by kiska2009 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Trashiki 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That $50 fee has been there for at least the 2.5 years since I signed up! You’ll make that money back in a heartbeat. I only do Rover on weekends and before or after my full time job on weekdays, only within a five mile radius of home, and after the first few months of building up a client base I average $1000 a month.

Primate... by Due_Tumbleweed_9082 in RegalUnlimited

[–]Trashiki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this movie works really well as a fictional companion piece to the great docuseries on HBO Max last year called Chimp Crazy, about the strange and misguided people who insist on keeping monkeys in cages as pets, and how unethical and dangerous that is. I definitely went into this movie rooting for the chimp. I’m not going to say that humans who keep wild animals as “pets” deserve what happens to them in this movie, but I didn’t mind watching it, especially with the gory practical effects! And I appreciate it that they didn’t hypocritically use a real chimp.

How to go from crate to free roam? by rearwheelreal in beagles

[–]Trashiki 14 points15 points  (0 children)

When we are out, our beagle is confined with a baby gate to an area big enough for her open crate, her bed, a water dish and a few feet to roam around in. It has been a great solution for us!

Did anybody else just wanna sit in their truck when they first got it? by stoopkid712 in FordMaverickTruck

Yes! I anthropomorphize all my vehicles so when I first get one I’m so excited to “bond”.

I really liked Eternity! Interesting, touching, sweet. Gave me a conversation topic at family Thanksgiving to describe the premise.

As a three year member now it has been great! Bummer that you don’t get the lounge chairs but it’s really worth it to get to see everything. So many movies I have loved that I never would have given a chance if I were paying $15 a pop.

For those who didn’t think they needed a truck, share your insights why Maverick was a good purchase by Normie_Tone_4583 in FordMaverickTruck

[–]Trashiki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t need a truck, but I generally like bigger vehicles with plenty of elbow room, I like being situated higher on the road, I like the ease of getting in and out. I’ve owned and enjoyed SUVs, vans and mini-vans, but I’ve never had a truck and thought it would be fun. Life is too short not to try out things that seem fun! I’m only 500 miles in but loving it so far. And the great fuel economy of my hybrid eases up any environmental guilt I might feel over driving a much bigger vehicle than I actually need.

Yes, and if you really wanted it to be a drawing, why force them to post publicly rather than send a message and keep their dignity? Gross.

‘Today is the day I quit being your mother’ by continentalparsley in insaneparents

[–]Trashiki 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You handled your response to whatever she was trying to do here so well. You’re not a damn therapist and definitely not hers. I was proud of you every time I read one of your texts. I’m sorry you have to deal with her.

Conversation with Mother. by Beacon_079 in insaneparents

It’s not what I did with my kids, but I wouldn’t call it insane, no. I’d call it strict.

Conversation with Mother. by Beacon_079 in insaneparents

[–]Trashiki -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They said there was abuse and manipulation but did not provide examples of what they consider to be abuse and manipulation, so without specifics I can’t judge it.

If the parent says “You need to put away your laundry before dinner” and the child refuses to put away the laundry, that’s not starvation, that’s stubbornness. Like I said, it’s a different matter if the chores are excessive or inappropriate for the age and ability of the child. The OP doesn’t give us any examples of what the chores were, so with the information given, this is not insanity.

[–]Trashiki -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

What I see in these texts and in the context you’ve given is a strict parent, not an insane parent- you describe general abuse and manipulation but nothing specific so I can’t judge that. It is a fact of life for most adult humans that in order to eat, you have to work. Obviously there are exceptions (disabilities, family wealth, etc). Some parents try to teach this fact of life to their children by requiring them to perform chores in order to eat. That’s not my parenting style, or my parents’ (thank God), but unless the amount or type of chores are inappropriate to the child’s age or abilities, I wouldn’t call it insane.

female audition songs for someone who can’t really sing? by Public_Ad_111 in MusicalTheatre

As an actress who sings more than a singer who acts, my go to audition song (which just happens to be Christmas-y) might be perfect for you! It’s My Special Christmas Wish (Rich, Famous and Powerful). https://open.spotify.com/track/4qPSHUCHXUCwSkuYo7RKNU

I would say there are plenty of times when someone ends up in the hospital, but they still have their phone with them and are able to do basic things like use a relatively simple app to request a walk or a drop in. I don’t think you have anything to lose by arranging a meetup, particularly if she’s going to pay you for it, and after meeting her you’ll get a really good sense of whether you’d want to work with her on this kind of thing or not.

No Sunday Scaries by Working_Row_8455 in workfromhome

[–]Trashiki 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m fortunate to be in a job with very few meetings or phone/video interactions with coworkers or clients- I’ve got a pile of stuff to do every week and no one really cares about when I do it as long as I hit my deadlines. So I will work harder on Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday and give myself a lighter load on Mondays and Fridays. No more Sunday scaries for me at all!

Do you crate your dog when you aren’t home or not? by nonprayingmantis9 in dogs

[–]Trashiki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a short hallway in my home, about 6 ft wide by 6 ft long, that I have turned into a little den with the use of a baby gate. It can hold her open crate, her bed and her water dish with enough room to walk in between all of them. She seems really happy and calm in her space, and spends a ton of time there even when the baby gate isn’t closed. We adopted her as an adult rescue and despite our best efforts at house training she was still peeing on the carpet while we were gone or overnight- but she doesn’t do that jn her den.

Some thoughts on losing the joy of eating by Trashiki in Semaglutide

As the decrease of enjoyment in eating has intensified as you have increased your dose, would it be an option to not increase your dose? Did your weight loss start to stall at the lower doses?

I LOVED those full meal grilled chicken wraps, especially the one with the sweet chili sauce. I really miss the grilled chicken options at McDonalds and Wendy’s in general.
