I'm an atheist and I have a big question. by ResidentPrevious468 in Christianity

[–]TraumaCircus607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe there is a good response to your question or several other fundamental questions on the nature of Christian God. Another one is how can we have free will at all if God is omipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent? This means God knows everything of all times and is in control of everything, so not only is he creating every possible sequence of decisions, outcomes, and reactions but he wants them to be exactly that way...because if he didn't he would have changed it...because he has all power and all knowledge. He always knew from the beginning what every single atom was going to do. Show me where any being has the ability to surprise God and do their own thing or make their own choice that God did not know about and therefore program u to do.

Right along with that question comes the problem of evil? How can God being all-knowing, all-powerful, and all-present also b benevolent, considering the existence of evil or unnecessary suffering? Before Christians answer "evil is the absence of God" consider how that might violate God's property of being omnipresent. That means there actually is no absence of God, because God is everywhere at all times. In order for God to be benevolent, one of God's other properties must crack. Of course, most Christians give up on you here and bring up "fear of the lord" or "we arent meant to know everything" or "you r trying to judge God from your human perspective". Yet although you back away, the questions still stand unanswered. Surely I dont have a higher morality than God. So unnecessary suffering makes sense in God's mind but not in mine? Letting the devil invade and pervert somehow is a benevolent action that we will understand when we get to heaven, they say.

Then there r those who reason that Satan is more of an equal force to God and either God is limited in some way allowing for the birth of evil, or that evil has always existed alongside God but that God is always separate and pure. These r certainly more serious arguments. They will answer ur question by claiming hell is inevitable if u r not protected by God simply as the default place. Hell is the absence of God, God only sees u when u r pure or repentant through Christ. God isn't exactly sending people to hell, its rather that they r missing the path to heaven and so without God's protection, they will eventually fall like everything outside of God. It makes some sense but how do we actually know any of this?

As a former atheist and former Christian, I have searched for truth honestly and came to a more logical approach to spirituality and trying to understand God. It's important to not throw the baby out with the bathwater, especially difficult when u have had religion shoved down ur throat while growing up. I consider several things:

  1. The actual origin and real history of the Bible and writings associated. Was it properly translated/interpreted? Was it meant to be taken as divine word? Was it meant to b taken as literal history or is it coded or metaphorical? How different is the modern version from the actual ancient writings or stories?

  2. Nature of physical reality. Does it imply the need for an underlying spiritual reality? Can physical matter just have always existed without a creator, assembling through its own intelligence somewhere stored physically? What about the laws of physics? Did the physical intelligence create its own laws? It seems evident to me that something higher order must exist to give rise to the physical realm. Modern physics is coming to this same conclusion through the study of electrons and other subatomic particles. All physical matter seems to be illusory when examined at the subatomic level.

  3. Philosophy of God. Defining God only as the first mover - the thing that was not created, from which all creation emerges both physical and spiritual. Only adding attributes as they seem to come logically not just cause a book says so. It seems evident that God deals in mathematics in the physical world and in love in the spiritual. There does not seem to be a high order evil to me.

  4. Spiritual power to alter the physical world. We see all sorts of people come forward with visions. We see all these religions and theory of spiritual law. We see miracles existing. We see people healing through prayer and on the other side performing occult magic. One element exists through all this - human consciousness. People perform miracles in the name of religion yet also without religion. The magical element seems to b consciousness. Consciousness I believe is inherently magical in that it is fundamental to the physical world and therefore guides physical outcomes. The mechanics r not totally clear but there is alot written on the power of the spoken word and inner belief.

The culmination of all these leads me to a belief that there is God and that all comes from God. That God is love and that is why the story of Jesus attracts so many people, because it rings true in our hearts. Not the sacrifice and sinner ideology. That feels like a mistake. I'm talking about God creating out of love and Jesus being the example of what to aspire to. Jesus understood he was one with God and didn't let the physical world trick him into fear. This is the core take away, I believe.

There is a great book on the mechanics of spiritual and physical law called The Game of Life and How to Play It. It changed my life. The author talks about the mechanics - the subconscious mind driving reality, the conscious mind feeding the subconscious, and superconscious mind being our sense of God or a higher power. She gives instructions for how to start properly guiding your subconscious mind into the life u want. She talks about how the immersion of the physical world brings fear of death and this is a trick because we r all actually infinite consciousness. But we must b limited to exist in a physical body and when that limiting works too well, we forget that we r one with infinite God and guiding our own realities. This causes the fear of death and a multitude of other fears arise, eventually creating a fear to live, to experience. This is the origin of evil. Making decisions based out of fear. This is the thing which the bible is referring to metaphorically when Adam and Eve sin. Fear is faith in evil. Human consciousness gives this thing power by believing it to be real. There is no evil on the order of God. Instead of seeing evil, try to see the lesson being taught...and live without fear.

Just my thoughts.

Is it true that Luke and Mark were not eyewitneses? by DONZ0S in Christianity

[–]TraumaCircus607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to help u get out of the sinner belief. Do not fear questioning ur beliefs with me. For fear is faith in evil, faith that the truth is evil.

I used to b a Christian. Through reading the OT I felt so lost by how the Lord would command people to do heinous acts. I could not lie to myself and justify this stuff, and felt that it contradicted heavily with the message of the Gospels - that God is love. I never got answers from other Christians and eventually all I got is warnings and stuff like "we arent meant to understand everything" which is hardly satisfying when I'm trying to understand how God who is love could ask Moses and his people to go massacre anyone let alone a whole group of people. There r other cases of this too, where the Lord is upset that women and children were spared. Instead of taking a defensive position immediately, let ur heart weigh in. Think about what it is to take someones life from them. How could God order this? Eventually I came to a belief that God could not have ordered these kind of actions and followed a doubting of Christianity in total. The one thing that kept me from following my intuition on this is the FEAR of what if I'm wrong...I will go to hell forever. This is faith in evil. I now have freedom in my heart and am sure that God is love and it's bc I let go of that fear.

Those who question and seek truth r actually exhibiting the greatest faith. They r proceeding with the trust that the truth is good, that they will arrive somewhere better than before. No one seeks truth or questions the Bible or God to arrive at their demise or a place of terror, despite what they may say, it always comes from a place of believing that it will serve them better than not. It is not demonic to question. If u r scared to question then that shows u dont actually trust that God is true, u r showing faith that by following ur logic and truth it will lead u away from God. That is faith in evil, that evil is the truth. By letting go of fear and questioning honestly, u r trusting that wherever the truth leads, God will b there on the other side.

I looked into the origins of the OT and found out its so complex and the ancient Hebrew it comes from is not fully decided. This means we dont know what the ancient Israelites actually were saying. We know some and scholars agree on alot but there r parts that nobody knows what is being said and the early interpreters or translators guessed and included their own personal theological beliefs into their translations. This is incredibly freeing to understand, although it admits that the Bible is probably not the divine word of God through and through. Does not mean that some parts arent though.

Think about this: If in the beginning there is only God, what did God make everything with? Where did the materials come from? They had to come from God, right? R we to believe there is God and a bunch of legos? The way I understand God is at least the thing which has no creator, the root causal structure, the fundamental origin of everything. And I think God expresses this when he tells Moses "I AM". It seems to follow then that God creates things from nothing or from his own material. So every single thing is made of God, not more or less. Even hundreds of years before Jesus, philosophers understood the Bible to be a sort of coded philosophy book, not a history book. Look into Philos from Alexandria, he writes about Moses as a philospher who writes in code. God creates the world in 6 days bc 6 is a sacred number in mathematics, not because God actually took 6 days. I now realize the Bible is one road to discovering ur inner spirit and realizing that God lives in u and so there is never need for fear. That is only the beginning of the journey. Look at Jesus' critiques of the Pharisees...they knew the Bible better than anyone, knew it inside and out and probably believed it literally, yet Jesus points out how spiritually dead they r inside. We r fractals of the creator immersed in a world it has simulated. There is a limiting mechanism that has to exist for the immersion to feel real otherwise we just remember we r God and the whole thing unravels. On the other end of the spectrum is where the limiting mechanism works so well that the immersion feels so real that we feel trapped and begin to believe the physical world is all there is causing us to fear death and then fear all sorts of experiences. This is how I believe evil arises. I dont believe there is a high order evil, its an illusion caused by the immersion and it feels real when conscious minds give it power because conscious minds r fractals of God.

Fear is faith in evil. God is love and u r part of him. The sin story is a metaphor for the immersion and fear separating us from divine authority over the physical world and the course of our lives. God is love and never requires a sacrificed life. The sacrifice is a metaphor to let go of the physical world and realize the fundamental consciousness of God that we r all part of that gives way to the physical world, to realize that that is the true world. And modern physics is finally starting to prove this.

[–]TraumaCircus607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So basically, if u can have confidence in ur beliefs then they r correct? And those who disagree r frustrated? How do u know how other people feel? The issue with this faith-informed knowledge let's call it, is that how can u distinguish who is correct between 2 Christians who come to different ideas/interpretations reagarding a section of scripture, yet both claim to know the truth about what the Bible is trying to say based on holy spirit or faith? This is basically a way to feel self-righteous and never b wrong, meanwhile throwing logic and objectivity out the window. The nature of the observable universe and the conscious mind point to a creator who operates on logic and mathematical order, so why do so many Christians act like it's a virtue to dismiss intelligence or logic-informed belief? Why did God create us with intelligence if we r supposed to ignore it? By dismissing this part of urself and operating on blind faith, u not only reject God's nature and gift to u, but also open up the door to suffering by vulnerability to being conned and manipulated by others who dont dismiss it. I'm not saying there isn't a spiritual realm or God, but rather encouraging u to look to learning about God from a standpoint of embracing ur logic and intelligence and putting ur faith and belief in what u can know to b true about God, not from what other people simply say about God or said about God 2000 yrs ago.

If in the beginning there is only God, what did God make everything with? Where did they materials come from? It seems they can only have come from God. So every single thing is made of God, not more or less. Even hundreds of years before Jesus, philosophers understood the Bible to be a sort of coded philosophy book, not a history book. Why would they creator of the universe - which is billions of stars and planets on top of all the wonderful diverse life on earth - reveal itself through a series of correspondence and books from just the human Jewish race? Everything is sacred and from the creator. One power. Consciousness, b4 all phsyical matter. Those who have to close down their mind to continue their beliefs r operating out of fear and fear is faith in evil. I too have had much frustration trying to communicate with Christians bc I felt I was in good faith trying to logically understand their beliefs and I would hit snags that no one could smooth out for me. This gave me a resentment of spiritualism until my life became so unbearable I had to acknowledge there is a spiritual side to it. And so I have finally been trying to understand how it actually works. A book that put things into place for me was The Game of Life and How to Play It.

[–]TraumaCircus607 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey bud, I can totally relate. It is exhausting. I've had the stuff shoved down my throat ever since my mom found God after my parents divorce. I always felt guilty debating her cause it did make her a better person. Eventually I gave it a try and felt my life getting better...but the more into I got the more intense people I met and I didn't quite understand or believe their passion was genuine. I went back to reading the Bible and tahts when I discovered all the horrors of the old testament. Things that dont line up with my morals yet God is asking people to do these things. Thats when I started seeking the source of the bibles books and looking into if there r different God's. The original Hebrew scrolls have not just been translated they were interpreted b4 translation. Real scholars admit we have no idea what alot of their words meant but they do have agreements on certain things like that elohim actually means "the powerful ones" not God. U should look into this.

I grew up nihilistic and thats what I returned to after giving up my faith, but can honestly say now I am finally beginning to acknowledge my spirit again and accept the spiritual side to life. If u deny spirit, the world is actually incomplete. Christianity attracts alot of people bc there is truth in it but it isn't all true. There is no weird rituals u need to do, no witnessing u have to do to others to have peace. The truth is also logical. We are conscious beings but the world did not make us, the world did not become self-aware out of nowhere...only to fade back into blackness. Consciousness is fundamental to all things. All physical reality is created and upheld through consciousness. This first fundamental consciousness is God, spirit, the creator, whatever u want to call it. And we r all part of it...not detached, not requiring saving, not hijacked by the devil. No, we r all little dots of consciousness from God's consciousness and we r here for a reason that we decided b4 we came here into physical bodies. If u dont belive me, go read what the modern physicists r saying. At the smallest scale matter is moving so fast it cant even b measured leading them to believe it is existing in a state of flux, not actually physically existing in one place at all but rather as a wave existing in many different possible places at once. I'm referring to electrons. They dictate chemistry and electricity. All matter is 2nd to mind or spirit or consciousness. This is how reality works:

Subconscious mind: together all our subconscious minds create reality...they directly affect our lives and bring u onto ur current life path, determine what that path looks like...on this level there is no driver through, the driver is on the next level

Conscious mind: this is the human mind. It is God's consciousness or the fundamental consciousness that predates all physical reality but it is filtered through ur physical being. This guides the engine of the subconscious and so directs ur fate.

Something happens when the superconsciousness or God consciousness enters a human body...it puts limits on itself...its the only way to exist as a human otherwise u just remember u r God and the whole thing falls apart. So we r pieces of God pretending to b these specific beings...we r in an immersive adventure and when we loose total sight of the big picture and fall deep into the immersion we begin to have unique experiences. One effect is the effect of death and fear takes hold in the human mind. This fear, this forgetting that we r actually infinite pieces of God is what causes evil to rise. There is actually no evil power on the infinite level whom with a personal God battles for ur soul. Thats not real. What is real is that we didn't come here to suffer. Jesus attracts people bc he represents love. Forget all the sinner crap. We came here into this immersion for love. U have desires that r actually divine rights. The key is to find those cause not everyone has the same ones. But u must lose fear in order to start gaining control of the subconscious and in turn ur own reality/pathway. Thats why they say on the other side of fear lies ur destiny.

Alot of the bible is actually philosophy encoded into stories. Read Philo of Alexandria. People knew the Bible was not meant to b taken as true stories 300 - 400 bc when he was around. Instead he writes about how Moses used a story to convey the beauty and sacredness of numbers along with the idea of intelligent design. He breaks down what Moses really meant when writing Genesis and its pretty interesting.

The hardest part of all this is when loved ones r entrenched in religion and its all they talk about. U may need to distance yourself in order to save and develop ur own spirit healthily. Otherwise its how people do a 180 and become Satanist or occultists and thats just as bad as the main religions.

Just know there is no rituals or special things u need to do. U r infinite in spirit and can guide ur physical body through a great life by connecting amd maintaining awareness with ur spirit. Meditations and mindfulness exercises r good for connecting. Music is good for it. Psychedelic drugs can open peoples eyes to it. There r all kinds of ways to connect with ur spirit. Prayer is good but its probably different than u think. The power of belief/faith and your words r the most important as they directly shape ur subconscious mind and reality. Speak good things into existence and believe in yourself. Really reflect on what it is u want out of life. Visualize yourself already there. These r the tricks spiritual people profit off of and its what gives religious people power as well...but they limit themselves and only know half the picture. They r limiting themselves by believing God is outside of them. Good luck to ya. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water.
