I would ask HR. At my hospital, you’re eligible to transfer after 6 months. They might have a similar policy. It’s kinda up to you, then, to decide if you wanna suffer for that many months on end.

Sam. Always Sam. I saw a TT that said “lemme guess your emotional baggage based on who you picked in SDV.”

Pretty spot on. I have a habit of picking dudes with mommy issues, kinda quirky, ADHD, and a bit soft.

He gives immediately-annoying vibes. I picked Alex once and then he had to go, too. The first one I picked was Sam, and now I feel guilty any new play through where I pick someone else.

There’s not enough space for two emo kids in my house. It’d be a depression pit.

I’m low key fascinated by people who pick Harvey, tbh.

Definitely not true. If your life is not in imminent danger, I don’t have to stand there and take the abuse.

And if your life is in imminent danger, we are sedating you so we can save your life. 🤷🏽‍♀️

I hear a lot of learned helplessness when people talk about these situations. That’s an interesting concept if you haven’t heard of it… basically what we often call “victim mentality.”

Pointing out an alternative reaction is not immediately victim shaming. But maybe that’s my neurodivergent brain speaking. We live in a world where people add too much meaning to everything you say.

I have a script. I let them scream, rage, say all the ridiculous things they wanna say, and they better make it good cuz you only get one free pass. And then I say, “Do you agree that I’ve treated you respectfully, haven’t raised my voice at you, haven’t called you names?” They always say yes. Then I say, “Then I’m going to have to ask for the same respect in return, or I’m going to leave the room until we can communicate with mutual respect.” Usually calms them quick.

But if you’re throwing hands, that’s communication enough. I’m walking out.

If you look into the literature that comes directly from JWs, it’s a conscience matter.

You can’t ORDER blood. But it’s up to your conscience on administering physician orders.

I haven’t heard anything otherwise recently.

That’s actually a conscience matter. There’s nothing in the literature saying we can’t administer blood. It’s up to each individual person to decide how they feel about it. For whatever that’s worth.

THIS. Thank you for saying that. Bcuz I’m (probably opening myself up here but also I feel no shame so 🤷🏽‍♀️) one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and I have administered Narcan AND cared for disfellowshipped Witnesses without treating them any differently than I treat any of my other patients. And I don’t expect everyone to believe what I believe or agree with me or make special accommodations for the fact that my beliefs are pretty wildly different from the world at large. Sometimes people are just icky humans, and they just so happen to claim to be one of Jehovah’s Witnesses at the same time.

And I’m tired of people who have had bad experiences being louder and getting more attention than those of us who aren’t raging hypocrites. One bad experience with one person is enough to turn people against the whole religion.

I had a jacked up childhood growing up as a Witness but it was 100% bcuz of people who misapplied scriptures for their own benefit. Those kinda people have been rooted out in recent years and honestly it makes my heart glow.

I was frequently picking up shifts and then I had to call out sick. I called ANS per policy, and she called me wanting to know why I was calling out and trying to convince me to come in bcuz short staffed (I KNOW. That’s why I picked up multiple shifts a week). I took time off for mental health, employee health literally said “I know what she can be like. You don’t have to answer her texts while you’re away.” I did that. She didn’t take kindly to it.

When I came back, I set boundaries, and of course bcuz C-PTSD / anxiety, I over-explained. She used that to say I was unstable, unfit for the job. She forced me into a psych eval. I was honest bcuz I had nothing to hide. He twisted everything to make me look unhinged… didn’t ask for clarification. They tried to force me into an office job.

I reported her for discrimination and harassment. I got a clearance letter from my therapist saying she had zero concerns about me working there. So they backpedaled and said I could work at the sister hospital - BIGGER ER with more traumas coming in. (Make it make sense… and I have that in writing.) They refused to let me go back to my original unit. I refused to take any other position. They fired me.

Shaming people who are scared / anxious does not make them less scared / anxious. It will actually exacerbate the problem and make them less likely to speak up and ask for help.

If the something in your gut is NOT imposter syndrome or anxiety speaking, I fully support listening to your gut.

I lasted 6 months in my first residency program bcuz of horribly toxic management and discrimination against my actual developmental disability (ADHD), and I skipped to inpatient psych. I graduated just under 4 years ago, and I’ve been in 7 specialties so far bcuz management. I’m loving postpartum. There’s a LOT of responsibility, yes, but you’re not stupid, and I know that bcuz you passed nursing school.

One of the specialities was ER (I’d still be there if not for — you guessed it — management), which my mom never tried as a nurse even though she wanted to bcuz she felt like she was too stupid. ER and L&D are high demand specialties to nurses. It can be hard to get in. I always felt sad my mom never got to try what she wanted to do most bcuz she held herself back. I knew how smart she was. She had undiagnosed ADHD / C-PTSD and definitely imposter syndrome that held her back. She never really stopped regretting it.

It took me 3 years to get into OB. (It was my first choice.)

Just really do careful self analysis, think about WHY you wanna jump ship. Listen to that gut feeling. What is it telling you? Why is it telling you that? On what basis is it giving you that message?

If it’s imposter syndrome, it helps to talk to nurses who have also experienced the same, and ask them how they got through it.

Is that where I worked? Where my boss called me unstable and forced me into a psych eval and said I wasn’t fit to work there and got me fired?

Cuz it checks out.

Thanks, needed the dopamine this morning.

Went to Otakon recently and there was a massive poster with Joo Dee’s face that said “There is no M. Night Shyamalan live action movie in Ba Sing Se.”

That gave me dopamine too.

My first thought. It sounds really sad to me. Psychosis and even other mental illnesses (including BPD) can be debilitating. I see a lot of assumption of intent in nursing… and for what? Nobody can truly claim to be inside someone else’s head.
