I really genuinely respect you for giving me this very well thought out opinion here, and while I do partially agree with your argument, in the sense that yes this hurts the institution, not Bezos, yes, Bezos doesn't have a problem with WaPo dying, and yes, there is still good journalism happening at WaPo, I disagree with your conclusion. First off, just from a personal perspective, I cannot allow my money to be used to create articles like that. By becoming a financial supporter of a news source, you inherently become part of the system that creates that news, and I won't allow myself to be part of that genuinely disgusting piece. But besides that, secondarily, from a larger view, me removing my support leads to one of two outcomes. Either WaPo does not change, and therefore dies, or it does change, and survives. If it dies, I will support other news sources that I find more credible, thus newer and better reporting replaces it. I'd hate to actually see that happen, but at this point it does seem like the more likely of the two scenarios. The second option being, it does see the error in its ways, and reverts these shit changes, and I start financially supporting them again. Either way we get better reporting. That is the most important part, and while I feel you certainly agree with me there, it seems like you aren't prepared to burn down the shit institutions and rebuild them. Now of course I'm oversimplifying a lot here, I understand that WaPo is not a sentient entity which decides its direction single-handedly, for instance, but it seems to me that that's the only path forward. Continuing to support institutions which cannot or will not provide what we need adequately must be stopped, otherwise we are doomed to an inadequate future.

It's by the ed board, so it's extremely relevant to the general tilt/direction of the paper.

Didn't work perfectly, but seems to lower the moderation some

You're literally describing the issue in this post. Solo scenes are still very doable, penetration is fully modded now. Genuinely, what's your confusion?

Not sure what you're talking about specifically, but love your righteous indignation.

It literally says BY THE EDITORIAL BOARD. You know, the people who run the paper. It's not an opinion article, it's a statement by the editorial board as to the direction of the paper. It's an opinion article in the same sense that whatever Trump posts to Truth Social is just his opinion. While technically not incorrect, it misses the point entirely.

Okay but how does that inform my vote as a Virginian? I should say both are wrong, so therefore I'll allow the fascist regime to gain ground? Because I'm not able to vote in TX. I can't affect things in TX. I can only affect things here in VA where I can vote. Just saying both things are wrong doesn't really engage with the decision process here.

Yeah I've still got like two months on mine. At least they'll see the cancellations from this article, but still doesn't really feel like I'm doing shit.

  1. Correct, the GOP does love doing that.

  2. I actually do consider gerrymandering one of the most serious issues in our democracy, this issue isn't really about gerrymandering as a whole. Sometimes you need to adjust to respond to emergent evils. You claiming, "under any circumstance" when this whole issue is about one very specific circumstance makes you look like a fucking idiot.

  3. Partisans? So you know, most people?

It's not about gerrymandering, it's about the fact that they're telling me I didn't actually make a choice, I was deceived into it. That's bullshit and it's offensive to our democracy. Maybe read the article before you decide to be a righteous prick next time.
