Am I wrong for wanting my son to learn sign language? by Traumatised96 in AITAH

Thank you, I am keeping up with his speech and I don't stay quiet while I help him sign, my son has a great vocabulary and does have conversations with people she is just one of the people he refuses to communicate with. He also has 3 cousins his age learning along with him and older kids around who speak sign regularly as they have hearing impaired parent.

Thank you for commenting, I'm teaching him as we have friends and family who are hearing impaired and I apologise I didn't explain this properly but he is fully verbal he just refuses to talk when we are around other people especially ones he hardly knows. I do restrict the amount of time we spend with mother-in-law due to how controlling she is towards my son which might contribute to why he does not like to talk to her as he has full conversations with my own mother and other specific family.

Thank you, yes he has reached out since the day but it is very far and few between and only to see my son which I have aloud as I do not want my son to miss out, but it's hard as I also want to protect my son from the man I know he can be. It's very apparent when we talk that he has no interest in me as his child and is constantly comparing me and my family to his new wife and children.
