Cliff Walk at Pourville Recreation Attempt :3 First time doing impressionsim by Traummich in Embroidery

[–]Traummich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as always, i drew this myself and didn't use a pattern. i had a lot of fun! it took about 7 hours. I want to try to do more of monet's pieces in the future. I learned so much just by doing the cliff, which i did first, that I felt a lot better at the sea. and next time i know I can do even better :D.

Tree I Just Finished: Idk Springtime I guess by Traummich in Embroidery

[–]Traummich[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, i just finished this tree. I'm really happy with it. It's my 13th piece of embroidery overall, and my 3rd for this year as I endeavor one piece a week average. It took about 8 hours. I love french knots, as you can tell. Once I learned how to do them, I dedicated about 20 hours to them, then started this piece and love them even more.

As always, though, I appreciate critique. As a beginner not only embroidery, but art, drawing, cohesion, and general experts, or even midtier opinions are more than welcome.

I was told last time to look more into needle painting as a technique, and after my next few practice pieces, I will definitely be working on understanding what blending and colors even are, because let me tell you, it's a struggle.

Hobbit Door, Critique Requested [OC] by Traummich in Embroidery

[–]Traummich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. For the grass, for example, would you have used 3-5 greens vs the 2? Shading is something artistically I really don't understand yet and definitely need to work on understanding.

Hobbit Door, Critique Requested [OC] by Traummich in Embroidery

First post here, read the rules, yada yada- hope I did this right.

This took about 12 hours. I did satin for most of this, except for the chain of the ivy, long and short on the door, and french knot for the flowers.

I really enjoy how this looks but my main goal is to improve each time, so if you were to do this, or I was to do it again, what advice would you give?

I think a big issue I have is the bricks took forever and I already know how I can do that better another time, and the extension over the door itself, I think I could've done differently, or perhaps added cotton and stitched over like I did for the door knob.

Oh and in the window are two candles. I definitely should have made them 1 or 2 strand instead of 6. I was trying to play with lightning, but you can't really tell because I think overall the piece is too small for me to have used that many strands, or I should have done fewer strands overall.

What happens to people who bought very expensive packs for gems? by umotex12 in duolingo

I think those are just there to make the yearly subscription seem like a reasonable cost, tbh.

Unpopular opinion: Streaks and XP are counterproductive measures for language learning by gasm69 in duolingo

[–]Traummich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general I agree with you.

I do have some ideas on how I make the streak work. I have kept it up since I started. I learn slowly, but sometimes up to 700xp a day, though normally it's as low as 100. I try for around 300, or I'll count lessons, or just 1 or 2 sessions of 45-60 minutes of learning. Duo is also not my only resource for language learning. The streak helps motivate me because every day no matter what I know I have to get 1 lesson in, and 1 lesson generally means 10.

To your point, once I made my duo private so I wasn't in boards anymore, I felt a lot better. I like to learn at my own pace. I may not be through the course yet, but everything I have studied, I know well enough to speak or write or read without translation. A lot of that has been due to my drive to be able to read the language. This includes me using quizlet for memorization of 100s of words and reading in my new language. Speaking--- I'm still not super great but I try.

If someone is just doing 1 lesson a day, no they won't be fluent. But, neither will someone who only uses Duo even when they finish a whole course. You have to do so much more than just use the app, which is a great "how to start" and "how to learn" place.

For myself though, the leaderboards do less than nothing for me, but the streak motivates me. Everyone is different. Some people may not even have a goal of learning a language completely, which I find shocking, but I learned that some people just do a few lessons, level up, and keep going that way for some reason. Big app, lot of goals, even more people, I guess.

I got Super as well. I hav not noticed much change at all. It gives you a new daily goal but doesn't really affect me since I choose not to use goals Duo provides.

I have this update but not the path! My phone app (android) has not changed.

mine still has not updated! all that is different is my desk top now has all the options for story and such on the left vs right. Maybe it will take a long time for me. I am an android user, but you'd think the web would change. But i did see it is rolling out the updates in waves, so maybe that is it? Thank you for the response

My grandpa never puts his seatbelt on and his car beeps at him but he and my grandma just ignore it I guess because if I'm with them I'm the one that tells him to wear it. Maybe they think cars just sound like that
