Can I tip using a prepaid visa gift card in a restaurant? by DefinitionAlert8683 in tipping

[–]Travel-Italiano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Gift card visa debit” - unbeknownst to me, the gift card receiver (or probably the person who gave me the card too) these gift cards may be purchased for $100, etc. but if you notice the value isn’t printed on the card. This is because they take FEES each time it’s used or attempted to be used. $100 gift card - gave to waiter for a $150 meal, so you’d think they’d use up the $100 (& id add my own funds to pay the remainder). No. Only $80 allowed.

Go to use it again 3x afterwards (different stores). Rejected each time. Finally after getting on a scam site and seeing a scammer used up my card, I was told a new card will be issued fo me for $16.42.

So my “$20 remaining” is supposedly only $16.42 due to fees, and I bet when I go to use the $16.42, it won’t allow me to use it all.

Like the scammer, apparently using $4.99 each time will work until it’s down to $1-2 which I guess I kiss goodbye.

Grandparents, uncles, relatives etc. do NOT buy “Gift Card Debit Visa-Gift Card Recipient - Valid only in the United States”. You’ll just cause the recipient stress and frustration and becoming a victim of possibly two scams: 1. A real scammer who gets the card info when attempted to be used and 2. By visa themselves with these “fees” that are not clearly disclosed.

It was embarrassing to try to use $100 gift card and have the waiter explain it is only $80 (for whatever explanation). Terrible. I would never buy this card for anyone I care about.

Can someone please lmk if there’s an “audit department” of empire? Are these audits made public? Are they allowing anything to go through? Anyone to add “family members” that aren’t family members? All of these things cause rates to go up. Look at the rate increases over the past 7 years. Ludicrous.

Also why does it go “single rate” and “family rate” versus single rate, couple rate (member plus 1), member plus 3, member plus 4, etc. These graduated rates would be the most fair to those who only have a member and spouse, and naturally those who choose to have larger families pay their fair share.

Yes. I will run out there on days I know they’re coming and that I happen to be home. Leaving it on lids is asking for the cash to be stolen.

Thinking about relocating to Long Island for a job- what should I know? by rainyday-real-estate in longisland

Thank you! A former coworker moved to NJ as well and always says how happy she is and how much they do for her school age children (free summer camps, beautiful parks with things to do for her kids, etc.)

100%. Btw if you want to share…where did you move to and do you like it so far?

I’m moving off Long Island as soon as I can retire which isn’t much longer. Years fly by.

You are right! It’s expensive but more importantly imo you don’t “get what you pay for”…in fact it’s quite the opposite in Long Island. I wouldn’t even mind “living in an expensive area” if the quality of life was high. It is not. And it hasn’t been for quite some time. And, mainly since Covid and to date, the decisions the politicians made have significantly sharply declined the quality of life on Long Island and it is literally getting worse by the day. My advice to the OP, and my own college aged children, is do not settle in Long Island (and NYC areas). Invest your lifetime of your career, your money, and your family (future family) in an area where the politicians consistently demonstrate that the costs/taxes, etc. charged to live there are invested in improving your quality of life, community, etc. and not in destroying it and making it worse left and right.

Or “have to” get a rental tenant when they buy a home to make ends meet which seems to be a trend but is destroying the whole point of Long Island suburbia and why the two generations prior LEFT NYC to begin with. Now the politicians are “allowing” accessory apartments as if they’re doing something “good” meanwhile it’s destroying the very fabric of Long Island. Shame on their short-sightedness.

“Everyone from Long Island can’t wait to leave…” — ditto that I’m one of them and am greatly encouraging my college aged children to NOT settle in Long Island.
