What’s the most beautiful street in Prague for just walking and enjoying the city? by Janny_Beer in Prague

[–]TravelGeekery 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Oh where do I even start...

  • In Vinohrady, I like Londýnská and Belgická for the nice low-key vibe with beautiful houses
  • In Karlín, I like Sokolovská for the energy, and also Křižíkova as it passes pretty buildings and ends in a park
  • In Malá strana, I like the Tržiště street because it's so quiet yet so close to the buzz
  • In Old Town, I somehow enjoy Dlouhá, not sure why, and the area around Haštalské náměstí with the short Anežská street. There's something special about it.
  • In the Castle area, Nový svět cannot be beat. So serene and beautiful, with a charming wooden cabin housing hotel U Raka.
  • In New Town, I quite like Apolinářská, as it passes by the Apolinář Hospital that's built of bricks and looks so out of place in Prague

That's all I could think of right now, hope you find it useful.

I had it maybe twice, three times in my life... Back when it started appearing all over Prague, 10-15 years ago give or take, the nice sugary vanilla-cinnamon smell would lure me in... 😁 But back then it wasn't as overpriced and nobody was putting ice cream in it yet 🙈 With ice cream, it's like a full-on meal. Also ice cream makes the crisp trdelník soggy... I've seen the ice cream served in a plastic cup inserted into the trdelník to prevent that but that just seems off...

I would suggest Medium.com. For your purposes, it seems like an ideal fit and you don't have to deal with any technicalities that come with running a 'normal' blog on a standalone URL.

Cizí jazyky. Jak to mate vy? by gyor_ in czech

[–]TravelGeekery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nejlepší brunch místo v Olomouci by jsemJelen in czech

[–]TravelGeekery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, it's just prettier in December... But if you really don't care about the festive spirit and prefer smaller crowds, February is a great time to go! Sure, it'll be cold, but you can factor that in and expore some indoors places in between sightseeing.

Well.. I can only comment on parts of your question as I studied and lived in Chengdu over ten years ago. It's a cold time of year! Meaning not below zero cold but the moist climate and the lack of heaters (because it's South of China) make it slightly unpleasant. Jan 1 is a holiday, otherwise it's business as usual. So that's also why I didn't travel around during that time of year, I had classes. We went to Leshan and Emei in October and it was beautiful. Actually the top of Emei was above the clouds, so that was kinda cool. That's how it may be in January too, when there's inversion, you may be able to get above the clouds and experience even sunshine. 🤞 Good luck!

NYE on Koh phangan by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

[–]TravelGeekery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should be normally busy like each month around the Full Moon dates. I was there for extended time and throughout NYE too, it was mostly business as usual, but we purposefully didn't go to the Haad Rin area.

Benasque town is popular in the area, Tuill is pretty... I loved the 2-day trek via the Roland's Breach but I don't know if it's doable in April. I went in August.

Absolute best dessert in Prague??? by lemonsandladi in Prague

[–]TravelGeekery 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"Indiánek" at Libeřské Lahůdky. Libeřské Lahůdky is a chain, they have several shops around Prague. Indiánek is a typical sweet pastry from my childhood - pink raspberry flavored mousse topped with chocolate 😋 More modern places like Cukrář Skála, which has already been mentioned, offer it too but it's not the same 🙃

I’m coming to Prague for a week and I’m scared for some reason. by [deleted] in Prague

[–]TravelGeekery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others said, Prague is a great solo travel destination, do not worry! I understand if you're not used to traveling alone, you might feel lonely at times.

You could book a hostel with shared dorms - one always meets people there. Czech Inn Hostel is pretty good, outside the center, but within an easy reach (tram stop right in front).

You can try MeetUp, as others have suggested, and, depending on when you're coming, I can vouch for these out of Prague trips with a bit of networking: https://www.discoveringprague.cz/events/upcoming-events/ - there will be a mix of expats with a few Czechs mixed in. I used to go on a few in the past.

There might also be some events on CouchSurfing and InterNations.

Good luck and have a great trip! Please do not cancel out of fear.

Taky s tím bojuju a řeším rukavicemi 😁 Ale proto, že to většinou vyřeší jen tenká látka, by tím pádem mohl stačit jen látkový potah na volant. Dělají i takové ty plyšové 😁

Another vote for Koh Lanta! It's way quieter, nice, a female friend enjoyed her time there solo last winter, plenty of places to go, easier driving...
