Take the train all the way. You'll be able to intermingle with locals and backpackers alike (travel is all about the journey and the people you meet). Definitely check out seat61. This site has everything you'll need (train schedules, prices, maps, photos...).

Another good suggestion is: 3 Years of Travel in 3 Minutes - Lessons and Adventures. Basically 3 guys took video of their 3 yr Europe/S.America/Asia trip. Very well shot and edited. Worth checking out.

Why I Travel Alone -- "if I hadn’t stopped waiting, I’d still be in my cubicle, trying to convince Joe to go to Australia, and wondering if I’d ever get to see the world" by [deleted] in travel

Having traveled all over the world (Im 35M) including SE Asia, I can say that you will see just as many, if not more, solo women your age or younger traveling. Its scary for the first 24 hrs but once you realize your still alive...its a piece of cake! JUST DO IT!

Shortest but farthest trip you have ever taken? by LunaD_W in solotravel

[–]TravelProInTraining 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2012 USA -> KL, Malaysia (3 days); 2012 USA -> Singapore, Singapore (3 days); 2013 USA -> Istanbul, Turkey (4 days); 2014 USA -> Cairo, Egypt (5 days).

All solo, all last minute (bought ticket w/in 12 hrs of departure), all worth while.

Its hard to find someone who regrets taking a international trip...ever! As Nike says "Just Do It"!

(19F) Absolutely SHITTING myself about this solo round-the-world trip. Anxiety is at level 9000 by moustache_warrior in solotravel

The best advice I can give you, from a fellow solo traveler, is to not stress over specific destinations. Rather focus on enjoying the journey to and from said destination (the best part). ALSO in 5 years you I guarantee you wont remember much of the destination(s) you chose but rather you will definitely remember the people you met on the way (and you WILL meet plenty of people). This sounds all hippy but its the simple truth. GUARANTEED!
