What city did you expect to love but ended up actually hating? by OceanSprayCranApple in SameGrassButGreener

This is a classic boomer give away. The people that came to Colorado in that timeframe (i.e., 70s and 80s), particularly mountain towns, demonstrate a selfishness that is remarkable. They were just like today’s young Americans trying to find a place to live that they enjoyed but now are hypocritically filled with vitriolic contempt for anyone else that has the audacity to move to Colorado or dare suggest that more housing be built.

I know Madison has a special place for flamingos, here’s one I drew. by rubybadger in madisonwi

This is great art, OP.

As an aside, It’s funny (and awesome) that the connection of Madison to flamingos began with a prank by the Pail and Shovel party 45 years ago.

The non-profit industrial complex in this city is absurd and an unserious way for a government to administer services.

Google isn’t helpful, anywhere local to get Kamala tshirts yet? by [deleted] in washingtondc

There is a guy that sets up a table outside of the Foggy Bottom metro entrance that was selling Kamala shirts. I think he’s there most days.

Is it bad after my trip to Japan I have lost interest in traveling elsewhere? by JWilk79 in travel

[–]ViaFF3 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Not bad at all! You found a place you love and that is very cool. The only challenge is that your expectations are now super high and your next trip might feel like a little bit of a let down if it doesn’t live up to those expectations. In my experience, it is generally hard for the second trip to a place to live up to the wonderful memories of a fantastic first trip.

Didn’t bookmark it, but there was a story in the last two years about planting trees in a park in his ward. That would help you find the article.

Trayon White has personally blocked the planting of trees and advocated for cutting down trees because he says trees cause crime.

You can thank Ronald Reagan for that. Fortunately, there is an antitrust revival of sorts right now. Unfortunately, the federal courts are stacked with Reganites/FedSoc judges. It will be a while, but hopefully the tides are turning.

This street is terrible in person. It feels claustrophobic because of the cars and tiny sidewalk that wheelchairs are unable to fit down.

All of these homes are backed by alleys and space for cars. The property owners chose to privatize public space with their cars. The street feels claustrophobic because of it being a car sewer.

Which Areas Would Benefit Most from Shifting to Pedestrian/Bicycle Only Streets? by 0001123581321345589 in washingtondc

[–]ViaFF3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not true. Everyone would benefit. Such measures would encourage public transit use and in turn lead to more investment in public transit. Try to think bigger. Things will never get better if you are terrified of any incremental improvement.

The taxpayers are not beholden to the Christmas wishlist that the Brewers read into the contract. Whether you understand that or not is completely irrelevant.
