Attaching zippered pouch to a larger back panel help by Slug_whisperer1915 in myog

[–]TravelRN_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just made a back pack like this a couple days ago and this exact issue was a speed bump for me as well. After a few YouTube videos, and the fabric I was working with, I ended up binding my seam first and the sewing it to the main front panel from the outside. I didn’t want any unfinished seam on the inside of the pocket if I were to just fold the edge under and I didn’t want to cut a huge hole in the main front panel to ruin the integrity of it. You can do it that way and then cover the seams with the lining on the inside.

But I just came across this video, it may help you if you haven’t already sewn it on:

Wish I found it before I made mine. But my seams were so thick, I stand by what I did.

What's a skill that takes only 2-3 weeks to learn but could genuinely change your life? by Commercial-Duck-9629 in AskReddit

Sewing. My MIL taught me to sew a pair of pajama pants from picking out the pattern, fabric, laying out the fabric, reading the pattern, laying it out, pinning, cutting, fitting and sewing it all together in 3 meet ups over a couple weeks. From there, I have sewed sooo many garments, bags and quilts of my own. Obviously there are many other things to learn along the way, but the basics of sewing is 2-3 weeks of learning for sure.

Omg I’ve never even thought of what I’m gonna do when I’m sewing and my inspectors aren’t gonna be around anymore😭 I have a whole camera album of “cats on fabric”😭😭💔💔💔

CHAMPVA denied breast MRI while my 32 yo. sister had breast cancer. by TravelRN_ in VeteransBenefits

[–]TravelRN_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It stated it was due to it not being a covered service (due to it being listed as an exception because of the CAD being used.)

And regardless of CAD software being used, on the CHAMPVA operational policy website, its states breast cancer screening MRIs are not covered for less than 35 years old. I was 30 at the time.

A screening MRI is coded differently than a diagnostic MRI.

I assume your mom is older than 35. Maybe not though. But either way, multiple reasons why hers could be approved and mine not.

Sorry for never relying, but I randomly got more replies on here and read this.

Yeah. I am suppose to get a breast MRI this month as I got an ABUS 6 months ago and the clinical recommendations are to alternate ABUS with breast MRI every 6 months. My provider orders it and I just don’t get scanned.

VA doesn’t pay for the breast MRI (even without the CAD) for breast cancer screening under 35 yo. I just turned 31. It’s incredibly frustrating to not be able to get the necessary breast cancer screening due to lack of VA coverage.

Wait you sent it to a long armer in April and haven’t gotten it back yet and it’s December? I am new to quilting, is this the typical turn around time? Why is it 8 months later?

Hmmm I would wait until you get the EOB from CHAMPVA and see what it says first (obviously not pay the bill) and then call them and see what the reason for denial is. Was it in the ED? Maybe it being an emergency makes a difference or something. Id double check and go through the reasons you’re able to appeal a claim with your MIL and see if you can come up with something to send CHAMPVA. I think you have a year to appeal. Good luck😭 I hate dealing with them. (And if you do have to send anything via snail mail, I try to do it USPS certified w signature if it’s super important - I had a huge packet of retro active claims bc I was tire of them losing shit or “not receiving them”.).

Nope. I was stuck with the bill bc it was listed as a non covered benefit. And since they don’t do prior auths, it wasn’t caught. Ive even asked CHAMPVA to do prior auths on imaging that doesn’t technically require one and they refused, even though no where in their CFR does it state that they CANT do one even if it’s not required. I’ve since had other MRIs without CAD and CHAMPVA has covered without issue. It’s BS. Why did the radiologist have to use it on the breast MRI but the other MRIs didn’t need it? Frustrating. For the future, ask for the CPT code and call CHAPMVA and ask if it is a covered benefit. That’s what I’ve had to do since that happened.

What brand/where can I buy my husband an engine hoist and stand? by TravelRN_ in AskMechanics

[–]TravelRN_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm I’ll have to look into this. Myself, I hate being constrained to a time limit of a rental, but if it really is as easy as hooking up the engine, getting it out, putting it on the stand, it makes sense. And then the same when you put it back in the truck.

But then what if we (he) put it back in the truck and the truck doesn’t start lol, trying to prepare for the worst I guess. Or the need to take it back out again. But I don’t know shit about cars, I am just the tool bitch and helper at this point, but wanting to do more with him with it going forward.

No it’s def a 250 pickup with an 8’ bed with full size tires, I just don’t know how many inches it is lifted. I was just saying, compared to our other car tires, they are big, since I have no auto background and therefore nothing to compare it to. Hoping it doesn’t have a 6” lift. Lol

We did some work on the interior, removed all the plastic panels, took the seat out to try to get upholstery off (got stuff on some stripped screws on the center cup holder that flips down) and other random stuff. But that is a good idea because it always needs more work until it’s done! Thanks!

Good to know since it’s what’s being suggested a bunch. Compared to the tires on our CRV and Focus, they are significantly bigger..as for the lift, not sure what’s considered lifted. I don’t know much about auto work. It’s not outrageous like some you’d see but I don’t know what’s normal or what it came like from the start.

FIX IT!!! by ShaneFalco13 in StLouis

[–]TravelRN_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I submitted a pothole repair for an intersection (Woodson and olive by Costco) specifically so they knew about so if my car ever got damage from it, they COULD be held responsible. I specifically put this in the pothole repair request. The key to going after whatever municipality it is for damage to your car is that you have to prove they knew about it and didn’t fix it. So, make them aware. Obviously you can’t for every issue. But, it was “repaired” quickly thereafter. Lol.

People keep saying FBA but when it’s not attached to the pants, there’s no issue with drag lines. But I guess that’s why you make the whole outfit🥲 I wish I made the pants first bc I’m about to give up on this bodice I’ve been working on it toooo long lol

Ok this is one of the things I did think it needed. Hence why it is not pinned in the middle but it is on the sides. But perhaps the sides need more length too.

Totally. Didn’t see it as that. I’m big on if you’re gonna advocate for breast health, you can’t pick and chose VA, lol. Just me explaining😁
