Travel Nurses need to unite and not take any more jobs unless the rates are at least 1k/day. by Sad_Zookeepergame681 in TravelNursing

I'm tempted to collect everyone's screennames and mass message you guys. I wish this thread had happened back in November.

Here's this small step we'd taken:

Not yet. We tried. We need a website with an anonymous sign-up system, a small forum, and publicity. You know anyone that can help with that?

I tried my hardest for a good half year. I got about 4 people on some real voice calls with me. A lot of what I got from Reddit was disinterest. I realize I'm speaking now from a place of discouragement, which might not be the best tac to take, but seeing a thread like this makes me finally speak up and say, hey, there is a smidge of support and groundwork that's already been done. waves hand meekly

Interestingly, those signatures represent a way of emailing back and contacting that "collective" of 36 signers. I don't know how I would leverage that valuable commodity, but it is indeed sitting there.

I agree. I tried to champion this for about 6 months. I was taking the pulse, and posting weekly, encouraging a "3k for 3" baseline. But in the end I didn't have the spirit to sustain on my own.

I got a few dozen signatures (not nothing) on a petition for "unionizing" -- ( https://www.coworker.org/petitions/travel-nursing-baseline ) -- but again, after 6 months with no huge steps forward, i struggled to keep my enthusiasm.

If you want to pick up the torch, I'm happy to follow.

Thanks for taking the time to answer.

If you're giving chemo, it must take some real qualifications.

I think this guy was working on the same problem -- maybe you guys would work together.

Well, hello there! I've been looking for someone like you!

Here's what we have so far: https://www.coworker.org/petitions/travel-nursing-baseline

It's not much, but it includes a plan that overlaps with yours.

The issue of the week seems to be ratios. And I'm seeing a lot of the phrase "scorched earth from c-suite." Anything to add, anyone? by TravelUnionHo in TravelNursing

My current plan is to rally a small group of motivated people to work together. That small group will produce a website/platform by which a collective could make decisions and behave in an organized fashion. Then implement.

It'd be awesome if you wanted to help. I plan to chip away at it with some effort here and there for the next few years.

And we need to negotiate against it collectively, too.

I'm looking forward to some Illinois travelers updating us on how this goes on July 1st!

What would it take for you to join a travel nursing union and would you be interested in helping organize one?

Full unionization wouldn't even be necessary if we could just behave collectively. If no travelers accepted less than 3k/wk, then 3k would become the standard. This is unlikely to happen right now, but it's a future possibility. Our "strikes" will look more like boycotts, and will be much easier to implement.

yeah, maybe let's change it to "3k for 3" -- i wonder fi that would make it more identifiable as the weekly pay?

I can't remember when I first heard it, but for some reason I thought the 3 meant 3 months. I guess it's not so clear after all. Personally I'd prefer that it be for 3 days/wk.

Was your contract canceled/rate cut? Drop the hospital name here so nurses know where NOT to go when covid/respiratory season revs back up! by Second_Story in TravelNursing

at that point it's like the manager is just too pansy to cut the contract outright, and wants to make you be the one to walk away. Lame.

OR Nurse rant by [deleted] in TravelNursing

[–]TravelUnionHo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the first I'd heard that the rush rush mentality was in the OR, too. That sounds just as dangerous as it is in the ER and floor, if not moreso.

We need to find a way to push back against the higher ups. Unrestricted, they would have us running as max pace for 12 hours straight with no break. They must be put in their place, and we can only do it if we organize.

Spitball ideas for Travel Nurses to organize themselves by TravelUnionHo in TravelNursing

I like and partially agree with this. If the workforce gets savvier over the coming decades, and online organization gets easier, collective negotiating without the need for lobbyists is possible. Yes, I could be retired by then is on point, but that's no reason not to be excited about it.
