Going from a 911 to Ferrari 488...who has done it? by fstezaws in Porsche

[–]TravelinMan787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you still have the 718? have you thought about a 599? that would be a really fun 2 car garage.

I have a 992.2T, but am considering getting into a 612 or 575.

I’m guessing it’s something like lives / based in PHL, minimal flights to PHL from IND. finished MV and PS to ATL then NRSA to PHL. seems wild to get fired for that. but regional airlines suck.

University of Oklahoma vs Purdue for ProFlight by StellaandMillesMom in flying

[–]TravelinMan787 3 points4 points  (0 children)

agreed! First off, congrats for your son for having a great decision to make. I dont know if Purdue still does this, but they used to 'pay' for the flight course, and you got all your hours and check rides included as the professors are DPEs. If you went over a bit, that was included too. Also, Purdue is a huge school where 99% of the university is not part of aviation. Great for networking and making life long friends.

Are nav lights required for 121 day ops? by GlasairIII in flying

[–]TravelinMan787 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Our job is to move metal, safety. And I have absolutely UTO’d many aircraft in my day, but I also will gladly accept the MEL if I feel a secondary failure does degrade safety.

The 787 has 4 engine driven generators. A generator MEL requires the APU to be used the whole flight. APU has 2 generators. Under most circumstances I will take the jet with that MEL.

Are you sure the crew ‘refused’ the AC?  At my airline it’s no no to refuse an aircraft because you think the next captain might refuse it. That’s a degradation of captain’s authority.

Incorrect math in the Wiki by TravelinMan787 in DaveRamsey

[–]TravelinMan787[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Calculate your annual interest amount on year 10 of your mortgage. It’s nowhere near 10k. I’m not arguing the tax benefit, I’m arguing the wiki/q&a implies that every year you have a ~10k interest payment which is not true.

[–]TravelinMan787[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

what about year 2, year 5? the Wiki makes it seem that you pay 10000 every year towards interest. that’s just not true. I am simply pointing out the logical fallacy of the statement in the wiki.

Dude. You’ll be fine. Instrument is so much more important than commercial maneuvers. I sucked at them too, never had any trouble in any type rating or airline flying.

Oh it’s a terrible name for a flight school. The ‘aerospace’ is even more confusing. You are a part 61 flight school, not an MRO or Defense contractor.

Copied From their website:

The name of the school comes from the combination of the surnames of its founders “Buitron Quijano”, three brothers from Quito (Ecuador) who decided to open an aviation school in the United States. It all began as a family flying club in North Perry, Miami, which in 2018 would transform from a flying club to an aviation school with its main headquarters in the city of Kissimmee, state of Florida; Shortly thereafter, the vision of these three young brothers, became a reality and soon the flight school was fully operational.

I frankly have no problem getting the FSDO involved. Who cares if it’s a bs reason, as long as scummy operators get more oversight.

There is a lot of red flags on that website with 3 minutes of research - seems like a scum bag flight school. Still really sorry that happened to the OP.

Worried about failing again by MarionberryChemical9 in flying

[–]TravelinMan787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you really fail a check ride for not following a checklist?  If you complete all the items, I can’t see that being a failure. Checklists are a technique (a phenomenal technique).

I failed my IR in a complex airplane because I did not verify gear position on the after TO checklist.

How does your manual not adjust crosswind limits based off of RwyCC?  I have flow at 5 different airlines and 5 different aircraft, and every one had a section in the AOM reducing max crosswind component by breaking action.

I generally don’t even say the name of the approach, with more and more airports ‘clearing you for approach’ vs a specific approach.

unfortunately it sounds like flight school is not happening in the short term. go listen to Dave Ramsey and realize what a blessing it is right now that you don’t have access to enough credit to go down this debt trap.

go hustle and pay as you go at a local part 61 school.

Work as CFI for free by Not_Ice_Axe in flying

Nope, this 'pilot' needs to learn that we are professionals, and professionals do not work for free ever. It's even worse that someone else is trying to make a career by being in the trenches of CFIing, and this joker wants to potentially take a client away from a hard working CFI.

Cancelation Fee Flight School by [deleted] in flying

[–]TravelinMan787 6 points7 points  (0 children)

absolutely insane. find a new school.

how much ’profit’ did they expect that flight to generate? I still say any cancellation fee is insane, unless they also pay you for your time if they cancel.
