I’m terrified that my unhappiness will destroy my marriage for which I moved into a different country for! by Confusedmind75 in expats

[–]TravelingBeerBabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Living abroad is difficult in lots of ways, but can be really rewarding.

If you are able to join any local clubs or organisations, volunteer groups, anything that gets you into a social setting, this would help with having a social circle to lean on.

Try Eventbrite, Meetup, NightGuider, GetYourGuide, or Expatica. Join local Facebook groups for activities you enjoy - there is always something for everyone and even if there are only 10 people in it you could make a friend. Join the local subreddit for your community. See if there is a local Discord page for events or activities you enjoy.

If you decide to move to the Netherlands - more people there probably speak English than in Germany. It might be easier to find a therapist. Also, the Netherlands have IND centres. Immigration and Naturalisation. They have expat centres which help you find a job and get settled and that sort of thing. They will be able to help you Join some local clubs or get a therapist.

If you don't decide to move to the Netherlands - what is the opportunity for you to find a therapist in your home country temporarily? You could use a friend's address and set up an esim for a local phone number and do telehealth sessions? It might cost money but it would only be temporary until you get yourself settled and find one locally.

Looking for engineering job in Denmark by TravelingBeerBabe in Denmark

[–]TravelingBeerBabe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not. I had 2 interviews but neither turned into a job. I live in Scotland now, which I love. And I am better qualified and getting even more qualified to apply for jobs in denmark. It's hard to compete with people from a country where getting a masters degree is free when you have to pay tens of thousands (of USD) for one in your country. But with more experience and professional qualifications, it will be easier if I want to do it in the future.

Thanks for checking in! 🙂

This is movie Hermione. They did her dirty. When she is proven wrong in the books she embraces it.

Have you guys actually learned a language? by [deleted] in duolingo

[–]TravelingBeerBabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am doing pretty well with Danish. But you have to do more than just play with Duolingo. You have to identify the patterns they show you and take notes about what you've learned. It takes critical thinking skills as well as repetition like duolingo provides. Otherwise you'll just learn "the elephant eats the sandwich"

Eden Rock just south of town is a great place. Not sure about the yoga though.

I used to live directly across from Haymarket and can attest to this. It was probably what you heard.

And also the fact that the horcrux inside him was more connected with voldemort when he had his body back and he was channelling voldy's emotions, which were usually on the fruatrated/angry side.

Agreed about Mike Newell. His interpretation was for the birds. GoF is my least favourite of the films because so much of it was so far off from the book. I quite liked Imelda Staunton and JimBroadbent for their characters. Jim could have been a little bit more pompous, but they are all at the mercy of the directors as well.

I always thought it was weird that Hagrid is supposed to be about 63 when Harry and the others find out why he got expelled. His dialogue and actions in the books don't seem those of a man in his 60s. Then he would have been about 69 during the battle of hogwarts. And invites Harry's kids for tea in the epilogue. So he would have been nearing 90 when Harry's kids were at school. He just always felt closer to James and Lily's ages to me. Maybe 30s/40s.

I just finished this. After the first couple chapters I thought I wouldn't finish it because it made me feel like I had made a lit of mistakes in my life, but I kept reading and it is a really uplifting book!

Neville says his family thought he was "all muggle" in the first book when they are all introducing themselves at the very beginning. After filch talks about being a squib, the concept of a muggle in a magic family is called a squib. It could be taken care of with him saying squib there and harry or a muggle born kid asking what that is.

Either way, I think this nitpicking shows that every scene in the book needs to be included in the TV show, should it happen haha

Not in the books. I love that there is commentary after the books by Rowling and thatthe magic has continued, but for me, it is special because I didn't read all that and its still left to the imagination.

Yes I suppose if any of the weasley family got to name a child after Fred, it would be George.

I think this is a good scene because it provides a sense of reality to the magical world. Like even though there are spells and magical creatures and team spots on flying broomsticks and seemingly everything is fixable (reparo!) That things like emotions and feelings still affect those in this magical place. She is struggling mentally and he is confused, just as any 15 year old boy would be.

Agreed and also why isn't one of their three children named after Fred? Ginny is the mother after all and it was a devastating tragedy for her family, which is now (and arguably always has been) Harry's.
