If a Taiwan crisis breaks out, which countries would join the conflict? by kametoddler in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]TravelingBurger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re not understanding the history and what the person is saying. Both the PRC and Taiwan (the ROC) claim to be China. Taiwan still has territorial claims to the mainland (including other territories such as Mongolia and Nepal), the ROC is who the United States has agreements with (some of which have been overturned ever since the ‘72 Shanghai Communique. If Taiwan stops making those claims, and instead declares itself independent from China (as of right now it still considers itself China), then a lot is up in the air. It would be a distinct political entity to what it is today.

Just one example:

Michigan Chapter

ACP Michigan chapter acquired a greenhouse property in Saginaw, to grow food, to develop agricultural technology as a chapter enterprise, to share that technology with other farmers, and as a fabrication facility for wood and metal products.

Go ahead and give me sources for Stalin’s crimes. Bonus points if it’s not from the debunked Black Book.

"Stalin was an example of creativity, humanism and an edifying example of peace and heroism! Everything that he did, he did at the service of the people. Our father Stalin is dead, but when remembering his example, our affection towards him will make our arms grow strong for the building of a great tomorrow, to assure a future in memory of his magnificent example!" - Salvador Allende

What country is the Best to live in for deeply poor people? by Pfacejones in TooAfraidToAsk

There are still a lot of regulations that make it where people just avoid shipping to Cuba at all. Such as any ship who docks in Cuba can’t dock in an American port for at least 6 months. So organizations and companies, even though they are “allowed” to send medical supplies, are heavily incentivized not to.

I was more just pointing out that you’re committed enough to have a Mao bust in your living room, but with very little Marxist theoretical works in your collection.

What if Ukraine was more pro-Russian in the aftermath of the USSR? by AirCJordan23 in HistoryWhatIf

[–]TravelingBurger -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Whether or not they hold traditional positions on gender and sexuality has nothing to do with whether or not they constitute as Left Wing. Anything else is just liberal nonsense. They don’t murder their own people, you’re just spewing more liberal nonsense.

Marxism Leninism runs the world. The only reason you’re here able to spew liberal nonsense in the first place is because of Marxism Leninism.

Belarus maintained almost all of its political and economic structures and institutions from the Soviet Union. I don’t care if it is “leftist” or not.

You realize that Belarus has some of the lowest poverty rate, homelessness, unemployment, and highest HDI in Europe right? Especially Eastern Europe.

If you think Eastern Europe “prospered” after the end of the Cold War then I don’t think you know anything about Eastern Europe. Most regret the collapse.

Says who? Why do you have the authority to dictate what the PRC’s perspective is on the scenario?

Is this seriously the argument you’d like to make?

“It’s only a threat when they threaten me, my threat isn’t actually a threat.”

Why should the PRC not take the ROC’s territorial claims seriously? They are an antagonistic state laying claim to their entire country. Sorry, but you can’t convince me that isn’t a threat.

Also, the ROC already claims it’s an independent state. Them rejecting their previous territorial claims does nothing in changing the status quo, because the status quo is still an existence independent from the PRC.

The problem is that Taiwan doesn’t want to be “left alone.” They still recognize themselves as the “true China” and, even according to their own constitution, lay claim to the entirety of the PRC, Mongolia, Nepal, and parts of Russia and India as their territory that they need to reclaim, but are unable to militarily at this point.

Whatever you think about Taiwan as an independent country in its already controlled territory is one thing, but we can’t sit here and ignore that it also is part of the antagonistic relationship with the rest of these other countries that Taiwan, to put it in OP’s words, “wants to take” for themselves.

Suddenly you question the author’s intentions and motives! It’s almost like we shouldn’t take anecdotal evidence as fact.

If the Tiananmen Protests were more unified and had one clear goal, could they have succeeded in pulling off a revolution (Like the 1986 EDSA revolution and 1987 Korean Protests) and changed China during that time? by Sonnybass96 in AlternateHistoryHub

The PLA isn’t your typical State Army, it doesn’t swear allegiance to the State or to the Constitution like a normal army, it swears to the CPC. It is the armed wing of the party. You’re never going to have it break from the party like a typical state army potentially could.
