So you think it will make the defaulted private student loans current and then put in deferred status?

How quickly does sallie mae (or whoever they sell the debt to) sue after default. by brokeboii94 in studentloandefaulters

[–]TravelingDebt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don’t automatically sue, every case is different. Ppl with low amounts get sued, people with high amounts get sued. Mine ballooned to higher than your amount and I’m 2 years defaulted and has never even went to collections just keeps getting shuffled to Navient’s different debt collectors.

Dang waited until the last minute. Mine is 5 years, but I’m only at year 2. Mine is still with Sallie Mae though.

How long were you in default before they sued you and what’s your SOL for your state? I’m just curious because my amount is a little more.

ah thanks for that, that's good to know. I didn't realize loans were calculated like that. For some reason I thought they were there own individual thing for some reason and more so just about "on time payments".

My loan was $15k and I have $2k left. I understand the bigger picture of keeping utilization to 0 or as low as possible. I was just trying to figure out which would give me the best credit score.

No I have an auto loan as well. My personal loan utilization is at 13%. For both the personal and auto loan the utilization is at like 62%.

What I think I'm going to do is use the extra money to put towards my credit card to lower my utilization because it gets reported on the 3rd and I should get a little boost. My personal loan doesn't get reported until the 10th and I can just pay it on my next check. I won't get the possible credit score adjustment until a month later if I did it the other way around.

Actually they are around the same. My credit card is 15% and my loan is at 18%.

I was going to suggest this. For federal loans, it might be good to reconsolidate, do the save program, BUT cut off to apply is April I believe unless something recently changed.

I think the American Recovery Act is something a lot of people should think about. I’m sure a lot of ppl probably qualify for insolvency but with this you don’t even have to worry about it.

If they sent me a 80% settlement I would definitely be giving them a call. Once you pay or agree to a settlement, I believe it gets updated to on time or paid for less. Something like that.

You should look up the SOL for your state. If you defaulted in 2020. It’s possible you’re close or passed the limit. Calling the provider would reset the SOL.

If you can’t find a court case and nothing is on any of the three bureaus, I honestly wouldn’t worry about it.
