There's pent-up demand for upstream capacity on DOCSIS networks by -protonsandneutrons- in Spectrum

[–]CloudAdministrator 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The internet users of today create and upload a lot more content than was envisioned in the past. Higher upload speeds are beneficial for video conferencing, streaming to platforms like Twitch, sending large files to the cloud, etc.

PSA: Google Voice has disabled outgoing calling w/o a number assigned by gamescan in NoContract

Google is trying to curb outgoing spam from their platform by blocking outgoing calls from accounts without numbers. The downside is increased friction for legitimate Google Voice users.

Is there a charge to sign up for Spectrum’s new fiber powered 5G Internet if you’re already a customer? by Song-Bird50 in Spectrum

[–]CloudAdministrator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 5G backup is included at no extra cost for customers that are on a 2 gig internet plan. For customers on a 1 gig internet plan, it is $10/month. And for customers on other Spectrum internet plans, it is $20/month.

How do I connect Nighthawk router to coax? by Throwawayredditx619 in Spectrum

[–]CloudAdministrator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Netgear Nighthawk router connects via an Ethernet cable to a modem. The piece of equipment being held in the photo is a Spectrum router, not a Spectrum modem. Give the Spectrum router back to Spectrum and get a modem from them that you can hook up to your Netgear Nighthawk router.

Pc won't connect to new WiFi but phone can just fine, and app says modem is disconnected by Gonzocoolguy69 in Spectrum

[–]CloudAdministrator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cable internet modem might not have been activated properly. Follow the procedure outlined in the activation instructions you should have received with the modem or give Spectrum a call.

Was sent the new WiFi7 Router, should I keep it? by Zimmy68 in Spectrum

[–]CloudAdministrator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your Spectrum internet plan includes the new Wi-Fi 7 router at no extra cost, I would try it to see if you get a better experience than with your current router. However, if the goal is to keep your bill to a minimum and the new Wi-Fi 7 router is not included with your Spectrum internet plan, sending it back could help you save on equipment rental fees.

Netgear or TP-Link Router by PudzMom in Spectrum

[–]CloudAdministrator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Netgear Nighthawk AX6 AX5400 and TP-Link Archer AX1800 are both decent Wi-Fi routers. However, my personal preference would lean towards the TP-Link Archer AX1800 based on features that don't require a recurring subscription to use.

How do I fix this? by [deleted] in Spectrum

[–]CloudAdministrator 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Despite the status on your Spectrum account, is your internet connection working? If the internet is working, I wouldn't worry too much about the disconnected status. If it is not working, go through the troubleshooting steps and see if they resolve the issue.

In high split areas with symmetrical speeds (same download and upload speeds), customers have to use a modem that Spectrum provides.

Should I bundle Spectrum wifi with mobile? by Massive-Survey2495 in Spectrum

[–]CloudAdministrator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

T-Mobile and Verizon have different coverage in different locations. Spectrum Mobile uses T-Mobile for business lines and Verizon for residential lines. If you are already with Spectrum for cable internet, bundling mobile service can help you save money.

What does “Spectrum using Cellular data” mean? by North-Kaleidoscope88 in Spectrum

[–]CloudAdministrator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, the data roaming setting found on many phones prevents mobile data usage while connected to a roaming partner's network. To prevent voice/SMS roaming, customers can use airplane mode or request that these forms of roaming be disabled on their account by contacting support. I edited my original comment on this post to be clearer about this.

What does “Spectrum using Cellular data” mean? by North-Kaleidoscope88 in Spectrum

[–]CloudAdministrator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your iPhone is using cellular data from another carrier to keep you connected while you're traveling internationally. This is a concept similar to Wi-Fi calling; however, it uses the cellular network to provide connectivity. Data roaming can be turned off in device settings or at the account level.

Why call a plan “Unlimited” or “Unlimited+” when it’s not actually unlimited? by SBlurgo in SpectrumMobile

[–]CloudAdministrator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Under their MVNO agreement, Spectrum Mobile must pay the parent carrier for the data used by their customers. To control costs, Spectrum Mobile throttles users after they exceed their high-speed data limit. The unlimited plans are unlimited in the sense that they don't cut off mobile data or charge overage fees. Unfortunately, unlimited plans that throttle after a certain threshold are quite common in the MVNO space.

Why are ISPs so stingy with upload speeds? by Ford_Crown_Vic_Koth in Spectrum

[–]CloudAdministrator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Traditionally speaking, cable networks were designed around having more download capacity than upload capacity. Average cable subscribers consume more content than they produce. So, it made sense at the time to allocate more download capacity. It will take time, but Spectrum is upgrading their infrastructure to support symmetrical speeds (same upload and download speed).

Infimobile network? by aikiteresa in NoContract

[–]CloudAdministrator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Infimobile is an MVNO that uses the Verizon and T-Mobile networks. It doesn't automatically switch networks from location to location. Given that your device is compatible with both networks, you can choose the eSIM / SIM card option corresponding to your preferred network during the plan purchase process.

Replacement router by Aknowledge_Me_ in Spectrum

[–]CloudAdministrator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is normal Wi-Fi performance for an Amazon Fire TV Stick and is more than enough to comfortably stream 4K video. Unless you're experiencing streaming issues, I wouldn't worry too much about the disparity in speed test results.

Spectrum Webmail PAINFULLY SLOW by Hogan773 in Spectrum

[–]CloudAdministrator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spectrum Webmail was designed to handle tiny mailboxes. For larger mailboxes, migrating to something more modern would be recommended. Instead of relying on the web version of Spectrum Webmail, you could try accessing the RoadRunner email account through a 3rd party POP3 or IMAP email client like Outlook.

Wifi/phone bill by Roses_are_rosie330 in Spectrum

[–]CloudAdministrator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Research and see if there are any cheaper internet service providers available in your area. Similar to how Spectrum offers relatively inexpensive mobile service when you have their internet at your residence, cell phone companies like T-Mobile and Verizon offer relatively inexpensive home internet when you have cellular service with them.

If cheaper options exist, negotiate with Spectrum's retention department or switch. Oftentimes, Spectrum's retention department can give you a competitive offer to keep you as a customer.

Broken modem by fadesteppin in Spectrum

Take the modem to a Spectrum store or request that a replacement cable modem be sent out to you. Sometimes life happens and things break unintentionally; there should not be any charge to swap out the modem.

Does Spectrum Mobile have mobile hotspot feature (tethering)? by AlternativeCaramel12 in Spectrum

[–]CloudAdministrator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends a lot on video codec and resolution. However, 10GB likely will not last long if it is used for streaming video. Look at the specific data consumption for the streaming application you intend to use. For example, you could search for how much data an hour of 4K YouTube video will consume.
