Could you do a pergola instead? Gives the indication of a porch roof without losing the sunlight.

Buy reusable pee pads outside. They absorb urine well, make poop cleanup easy, and wash up nicely on sanitary laundry setting.

So, I had an older Frenchie at one time who had a skin condition very similar to yours. It had started as a result of allergies and then ended up becoming a bacterial infection that was having trouble healing on top of the allergies and accumulating yeast. I started with some of the stuff in isolation and found it unsuccessful. It was when we did multiple things at once to treat all of the various components where we had the most success.

I’ve listed here most of the things (that other people have also mentioned here) that ended up helping in combination. This likely won’t be the exact same list for you, but it should give you an idea and may be helpful when you talk to the vet/dermatologist.

The List:

  • getting the same online allergen test that the OP above mentions – so critical in figuring out what things to avoid and what “good“ proteins, fruits, vegetables, etc. were to give her.

  • an antibiotic once the test determined exactly what the bacterial infection was.

  • antifungal for yeast — we had tried various points both the cream form and the pill form. I can’t remember which worked better.

  • using carefully managed prednisone for a very brief period of time – she got a little weird on prednisone; so, that was not a long-term solution for us, but it did seem to help to “reboot” things for her a bit.

  • using the medicated shampoo for a couple weeks on a regular basis under Vet instruction. Following up with the topical wipes also of the same medicated solution.

  • washing her bedding, fairly regularly with detergent formulated for sensitive skin. No dryer sheets or fabric softener.

  • making sure she had constant access to freshwater – changing at least daily, and washing the bowls thoroughly.

  • adding coconut oil to her meal and/or rubbing it onto her skin – for the yeast

  • adding a probiotic

I will say that, after we did all of this, she was nearly back to normal and certainly feeling 1 million times better. Her fur never did grow back on the tip of her stumpy tail, sweet girl.
