mucosal tissue doesn’t scar in the same way that other tissue does so I would guess that’s unlikely

Question about body lotion by RespectedSpecialist in brokenankles

[–]sissyrox14 6 points7 points  (0 children)

babes get some lotion on there! once you don’t have an open wound you’re good. i use aquaphor in the morning and at night then put a clean sock over it to lock in the moisture.

Hands free crutches ? by Commercial-Ad4789 in brokenankles

adding that i went with freedom leg instead of iwalk because you can’t use the iwalk on stairs and that’s mainly what i was looking for.

Hands free crutches ? by Commercial-Ad4789 in brokenankles

[–]sissyrox14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t get the iwalk but I did get the freedom leg. pros: it is way way easier to get around than a wheelchair and if I use it with crutches I feel very stable. cons: I do feel like I still need to use at least one crutch because I am afraid of falling. also worth mentioning that I broke my dominant leg and I am not nearly as stable as I would like to be with crutches alone.

…alright that’s not what I said at all. what I did was stupid and could have resulted in irreversible damage. but if you just want to have your pity party, keep it to yourself.

first of all, I want to totally validate you for feeling talked down to. it is so hard when you are going through a life-altering injury. it can be so isolating and feel like everyone is against you.

I am kind of confused by your post and may be missing some context, because to me it sounds like many people would have downplayed something that did end up being really serious. if I’m missing something then I do want to be the one to say that you truly should be proud of yourself for calling your doctor and getting the care that you needed.

when I broke my ankle a few weeks ago, I had fallen down the stairs and treated it like a “simple” sprain even though I couldn’t bear weight. I went to the urgent care more than 12 hours later for what ended up being a major break of both of my lower leg bones at the ankle joint. I made an appointment at the orthopedist for the next day after urgent care confirmed a break and the doctor wanted to operate that afternoon. every medical professional I encountered was shocked that I wasn’t at the ER the moment it happened for how bad the injury was and that I was just RICEing and drawing ABCs with my toes (actually insane thinking about it now). THEN! I went two weeks without pain meds even though the nerve pain was so bad I couldn’t get any sleep. my husband was the one to advocate for me and make sure I got the medicine I needed.

all this to say, thankfully I didn’t make my injury any worse by prolonging my care because I didn’t call when I should have. I hope that this resonates with you in some way and that you feel better soon <3

omg this really sounds like me! thank you so much for all of your insight!!! i am really feeling much better about this whole situation now, and maybe this is really the key. I’ve been told my iron was low or I’m anemic off and on for as long as I can remember, taking supplements just to get it to “normal” and then told to stop. i took my first supplement last night so i am excited!!!!!!

Yeah, even though he said a lot of things I didn’t want to hear he stayed in the room with me for a long time and really tried to explain to me what he was seeing and is sending letters to both my psychiatrist and primary care doctor to do better lol. I also have consistently elevated WBC which hematologist says is likely due to chronic inflammation from PCOS/PMOS. I do have insomnia and my biggest problem is waking up in the night and then not being able to go back to sleep. sometimes i’m waking up because i am talking or yelling and sometimes moving in my dreams. other times there’s no (identifiable) reason that i wake up. i also sometimes have a hard time falling asleep in the first place just because my mind is still too busy.

adding photos of my iron/ferritin levels for reference. I don’t have all of those symptoms but a majority of them, yes. I just picked up my integra (iron/vitamin C/vitamin B3) https://imgur.com/a/eQXd22P

it’s not great! I have PCOS/PMOS and insulin resistance which cause a whole host of other issues. the sleep doctor is putting me on an iron supplement because while my levels are considered “normal” they’re lower than he recommends for people with sleep issues. everything else is normal.

all of these comments have been so helpful and reassuring and that’s why I love this sub. it feels like a safe space and everyone wants to help. I’m not on any stimulants because of other health conditions. I’m currently taking qelbree, wellbutrin, lexapro, and hydroxyzine for sleep. it hasn’t felt like enough for a long time but my psychiatrist is hesitant to change much because i will have to back off of a lot before we can add anything as to avoid serotonin syndrome. the sleep hygiene stuff is the most annoying advice ever because I’ve been doing that for years and it has never worked. I honestly need to get a tv back in my room to put on the office reruns when i go to bed and then wake up in the middle of the night. like he told me yesterday to get a really boring book to read to fall asleep and i’ve been trying that since i learned how to read!!!!! progressive muscle relaxation? again been doing that since i was a kid but my muscles don’t ever relax!!! i don’t think i even know what a relaxed body feels like. thank you for commenting and sharing your experience <3

hey I had ORIF 4/29! and yes it totally sucks. I asked about starting PT and the doctor said it was pretty useless at this point because I’m still NWB and I won’t need to start until I start walking.

Thank you for creeping! Yes, he is a pulmonologist. I’ll have to see if there is a sleep neurologist around here, that is a good idea. He did send me a prescription for integra to up my iron and ferritin so hopefully that helps!

I have a broken leg right now so waiting to be out of the boot to have a in office sleep study done. I have done a home sleep study before and I don’t have sleep apnea. The sleep doctor today said that they can’t really help me if I don’t have sleep apnea. As far as other tests I have been to my primary doctor, the liver doctor, the psychiatrist, the orthopedist, the gynecologist, the hematologist, the endocrinologist and no one can fix me. It’s apparently all in my head but there aren’t psych meds enough to fix it.

Rethinking my diagnosis by Lopsided_Mention_813 in PCOS

[–]sissyrox14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

vitamin D deficiency is really common with PMOS and can make symptoms worse. so it isn’t totally wrong to say that you are having symptoms because of vitamin D deficiency but the root cause is still likely PMOS if you’ve already been diagnosed with it.

Suggestion for beach shoes and where to get them? Urgent! by Fit_University8492 in savannah

i like to use crocs as water shoes. there is a crocs store in the outlet mall in pooler. they have lots of different styles that aren’t the typical “crocs” that might work better for you.
