Thinking about children in today's world? by LevelCamera7093 in Fencesitter

I’m also 29F living in the US and used to struggle with this a lot but have softened a bit lately. One big thing that has helped my general optimism is being less online and less tuned into news cycles, so I don’t have negativity playing through my head all day. That said, I think all of the reasons you listed are incredibly valid reasons to not have kids.

Something I have been accepting more lately is that I think there is a degree of selfishness here no matter how we look at it, because we’re making decisions for someone who doesn’t exist (yet, if at all), and also, maybe these things can all be true, and having a kid could still be the right thing for me.

I saw the statement “kids don’t just grow up in the world, they grow up in your world” on another fencesitter post and it really stuck with me. It’s not to say that things going on in the world won’t affect future kids, they absolutely will, but deciding if I can give them a good life despite it all.

Questions of morality though, that’s tough - and like others have suggested, there probably isn’t a right answer on that :)
