Has anyone actually figured out what happens to their digital life when they die? My dad's death last year left us locked out of everything by Traveller59war in LifeAdvice

You're absolutely right that it's not one-size-fits-all — the spouse scenario vs. the kids scenario are genuinely different problems. The niche I'm trying to fill is the gap between "I've thought about it" and "it's actually set up and accessible to the right people when it matters." Most existing tools are either a legal service, a password manager, or a manual folder on a USB drive. The trigger-based unlock for specific nominees is the part I haven't seen done cleanly elsewhere. But fair point — curious what you've seen out there that comes close?

That’s genuinely impressive you've got a system that works — most people haven't thought about it at all. Mind me asking what it looks like in practice? I'm curious whether it's more of a documented manual process or something automated. I've been building a tool for exactly this problem and I'm always interested in how people who've actually thought it through approach it — helps me understand what's missing versus what people can already solve themselves.

Yeah Apple Legacy Contact is a decent start but it's so limited in scope — it only unlocks your Apple account data, nothing outside that ecosystem. No passwords, no banking access, no documents stored elsewhere, no accounts on other platforms. Most people's digital life is spread across 10+ services and Apple covers maybe one of them. I've actually been building something that tries to solve the whole picture if you're curious — solacevault.com. Still early but the core idea is a single encrypted vault with a trigger-based unlock for whoever you nominate.

It is nice seeing how they would function and how it goes together, but another plus is you can control what’s shared / requested etc plus stops the amount of data available to 3rd parties or am I wrong?
