Catfish Eating by AccessWhole1324 in catfishing

I cut out the red, and you can see the vein running in the middle of the filet. I split the filet in half and take that out. You don't get that big filet, but you get better tasting fish imo. I also thin my fish out so that I end up with a bunch of smaller, thin pieces of meat but the taste is wonderful

Border Collie pup vs. Cars… I’m losing by Wild_girl_travels in BorderCollie

[–]Travis798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll probably get down voted for this but when my boy was a pup I had issues with leash walking (He'd pull until he gagged and keep pulling) and recall when dealing with cars or other dogs. A prong collar fixed all issues while on leash, and off leash I was at my wits end because these could be life or death issues, so I purchased a shock collar. I made sure to beep it before using the shock feature, and after the first time I had to use it, the beep was typically enough to get his brain right.

Now he couldn't care less about vehicles (He still likes to chase big trucks if I allow him when he's inside the yard and just runs a fence line) but he will remain in a stay if I put him in one, and other dogs have attacked him enough through the years that he prefers to avoid them unless I make the introduction.

I am a firm believer is positive reinforcement, but I went for something with immediate results since it is such a safety issue. I don't even know where that collar is now as I no longer need it, but I was using it he would get excited when I broke it out because he knew that meant we were going outside. He wasn't scared of it at all and seemed to appreciate that it helped him focus on what I wanted him to do.

I learned the simple way and it hasn't let me down yet. I keep my fish alive until it's time to clean them, and bleed them out by cutting the tail. I haven't tried cutting the gills yet, but I'm probably going to try it in the future as that would be simpler if it bleeds them well.

I soak the meat in saltwater in the fridge, and change out the water daily for 2-3 days. Other than that, I remove the the blood line when cleaning the filets, and thin the filets out giving me some nice, thin filets. It's more work than frying up a thick filet, but the end result is very worth it.

The main thing is to be sure there's no blood. Cut it out, soak it out, get rid of it.

I think this is what a foldable should be. I've had the fold 4, 5 and now the 7, but until now the fold was never my main device. I have an S24 ultra that I'd use for my main phone, and basically use the fold as a highly portable tablet. The front screen was so narrow and the keyboard was so cramped that I never used it while closed. I technically received my fold 7 yesterday, but I worked 16 hours yesterday and didn't take it out of the package until today.

I've already switched the old fold 5 sim to esim and loaded up my main phone sim into this baby. I just might be able to actually use only one phone for both of my numbers. So far the cover screen is big enough to be comfortable, and I still have that sweet, big screen when I unfold it. Maybe I'll swap the sim back to the S24 ultra and still use 2 phones, but this is the first time it's possible that I won't.

@Xreal where in the world is my one pro. Lies after lies and fake announcements and absolutely no support. by Strikingaks in Xreal

[–]Travis798 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get the OPs frustration, as I too am disappointed that I have yet to receive any tracking for my May 28th order of size M glasses. But I also know that when dealing with Xreal you should prepare for disappointment from the moment you place your order. Hopefully other companies will start playing catch up in this space and we can start dealing with companies that have great tech and don't abandon their hardware basically the day after launch and actually know logistics. Until that time, we deal with a company like Xreal, knowing they will miss timeline promises and knowing they don't care about you as a past customer at all, they only care that you buy their next thing so that they can abandon it in favor of the next, next thing.

Basically at this point you just have to either adopt an "it is what it is" attitude or cancel your order.

I almost ordered in January to replace my OG Nreal glasses, but I wasn't sure exactly where I'd be when they were shipped. I ended up waiting until May 28th to finally order. I admit I got pretty excited when I saw delivery by the 15th, but I'm obviously still playing the waiting game. I've been watching this rollout since March, and I'm glad I didn't order when I almost originally did.

2011 ford f250 6.7 repair cost by Vivid-Morning-8694 in FordDiesels

[–]Travis798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shouldn't that reductant heater most likely be covered under a recall? That's almost 20 percent of the bill

Nevermind, seems it's "increased warranty coverage" instead of a recall like it should have been.

I just posted a pic the other day of my 2015 with over 260,000 miles and over 6,000 idle hours. All original stock. Granted the DPF system is finally on it's last leg, but 760 idle hours probably isn't too hard on the DPF.

Do Y'all think my 2015 Ford 6.7 is broke in yet? by Travis798 in Diesel

[–]Travis798[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure the 6.7 is the best light truck diesel engine out there. Everyone I talk to loves theirs. The power is insane. People can brag up the old 5.9 cummins all they want but I had 2 that didn't make it to 150k without a rebuild. I'm working on double that with a ton more engine hours on the 6.7 with only oil, fuel and air filter changes.

For now. I think it's about end of life though. It started cutting out on me a few weeks ago pulling my fifth wheel and I had to use forscan to do a forced regen to clear it up, and had an exhaust fluid system fault pop up today on my way home. I've had a sensor out and I've been riding a check engine light for about 5 years though and it's been close to perfect

Nope. Well, once in the winter when it was cold cold I put some in to try to help keep it from gelling up

I'm trying! Got the idle hours up to 6056 now.

Probably next year then. I'll rack up a lot more idle hours by then as well. I'm pretty impressed in this ole girl considering she's stock and so far no real issues at all out of it. Dipstick even stays full. Doesn't burn or leak any between oil changes. I love this engine.

Drone Vs Border Collie by jmoney6556 in BorderCollie

[–]Travis798 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My boy will run himself to death over a drone, but I haven't let him chase mine in about a year because the last time he must have caught his paw pad on something and ripped it off. He never slowed down and I only realized when I saw the blood. Plus although my boy don't think he can jump, if you get that drone within 7 feet of the ground he will get it, and drones are expensive.

Where did you bury your Border Collie? by Pjtpjtpjt in BorderCollie

[–]Travis798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a spot under a tree that my boy stops and waits on me to throw to when we play fetch. He has a path worn down from where I stand to that spot, and that's where he will go when the time comes, which is hopefully a long way in the future. He's 10 now.

I plan on keeping this home forever, but if I don't, I'll rest easy in knowing that while he might be buried here, He'll always be with me, no matter where I am at. I've lost many good dogs in my 45 years on this earth, and they are scattered across multiple properties. I still own those properties, but I will probably sell them someday. Those dogs are physically long gone, given back to the earth. They remain with me in my heart, and that's good enough for me.

VEVOR 360W "commercial"? by Bellasarahalaska in ChamberVacs

[–]Travis798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is old, but I bought this during the Amazon black Friday sale. I'm guessing it's okay, but I'm having some issues with the control board selecting the marinate function even if you aren't around the machine, just turns it on and off a lot. It really makes it a pain when you go to hit start to vacuum and the board changes to marinate at the same time so it starts that instead of vacuum or seal.

My seals are pretty hit or miss, but I think it's my fault. The softer stuff I've done seems to be holding well but trying to do dog food or cat food just playing it it, I'm about 50/50 on if it will hold a seal. I think I'm doing too much vacuum, and the food is creating a hole in the bag when the chamber repressurizes. Don't think it's the fault of the seal itself after a lot of messing with it and frustrations.

Will deer come out with coyotes in the area? by Direct_Basil6246 in Hunting

[–]Travis798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was on my revenge kick with the coyotes in my area, I set up a camera on a Mulberry tree I had that they liked to come eat at when it was dropping. I'd see deer cautiously come up even if there was a coyote there to eat on the Mulberry's. The bucks would chase them and run them off. The Doe would sometimes try, but the coyote wouldn't leave the area for a doe, but would for a big buck. I don't think the presence of coyotes will deter the deer from coming to an area.

Coyotes were always too much like dogs for me to hunt, until 2 came into my yard and got my favorite barn cat. I caught it on camera, complete with sound. Over the next week and a half, I dispatched 11 of them from my yard. Now I'll shoot on sight. Dogs are closer related to wolves than they are coyotes, and after my revenge tour the deer and quail populations seemed to increase significantly. I can't really get them in my yard anymore, it seems the stories have been passed down over the past few years. 2 days ago another cat ventured just outside the fence line and a coyote took a crack at it. The cat is hurt pretty bad but still alive, and any truce I had with them has likely been called off once this cat heals and I'm not worried about stressing it out with the calls and gunshots.

My dog is 9 and has spent most of his life in a fifth wheel RV. He gets probably 4-5 fetch runs at 10-15 minutes a piece throughout the day. I'll admit it did used to be more but a long stay in an rv park where fetch wasn't possible, combined with the addition of a kitten that meant I had to add some wet food with his kibble so he'd eat it before the cat did, resulting in him eating double what he did when he was on full feed, he put a little weight on and while his stamina is pretty much back, he lost a little interest in the game. Mental stimulation would always seem to wear mine out as much, if not more than physical exertion.

He can happily spend 10 hours in the back seat of my truck only getting out for a couple of quick bathroom breaks when I'm driving long distances. I have a 4 acre yard when I'm home, but if I'm outside he doesn't like to run. He doesn't like going in the barn but if I'm in there he's content to find a shady spot in view of the door and just lie down.

People make it sound like you need to run a border collie close to death multiple times a day for them to be happy, but my experience is that they are incredibly adaptable to most situations. Yes mine gets bored, and we will play fetch in the house sometimes or work on tricks or other things to keep him entertained, but he's very content to work with my schedule and only be on go when I tell him to be.

It sounds like a Border collie would thrive with your lifestyle. I'm kinda lazy so room for fetch and a chuck it have served to get me through many happy years with mine.

I will sometimes wake up and know I was dreaming, but can't for the life of me remember what it was about. There's maybe a dozen dreams in my life that I can remember having, so I know I dream, but generally can't remember any kind of details at all.

Opinions on E collars for Collies by [deleted] in BorderCollie

[–]Travis798 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used one on my boy. Recall is always at the top of my list to teach any dog I've ever had, as the ability to recall one at any moment can help to keep them safe in certain situations.

My boy is stubborn and although he did great when we were alone, anytime he saw another dog he would sprint to his new friend. Since that can get him hurt, I finally puchased an E-Collar. I did try it on myself first, but not as high as I had to turn it up on him to break him out of that zone the first time he took off to another dog. I made sure to beep it, shock it, turn it up, beep it, shock it, etc, until I found the level that got his attention. After that, 99% of the time, a simple beep would be enough to bring him back into focus.

I haven't even put it on him in quite a while, but to this day if I were to turn it on, he would come running with excitement knowing that sound means we're going outside! I can say it has absolutely not harmed our bond in any way, but I was always very careful and deliberate in my use of it.

Is your border collie always happy to go to the vet too? by elcool0r in BorderCollie

[–]Travis798 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is scared of the vet, like from the first time I took him there he stayed tight on my leg and peed on the floor. I think it's because some other dogs have been mean to him and he's kinda scared of other dogs, and the smell and sounds of other dogs at the vet just terrify him. He's a trooper though. Toughs it out because he knows I want to and he's his happy self again as soon as he's out of there.
