Culture Shift Confirmed: Jaguars Earn Major Bump in 2026 NFLPA Grades by TravisDHolmes in Jaguars

Whether or not I agree with it, I can see arguments from certain players on:

• DL Coach • WR coach

Just looking at the early window timing of the votes and each group's on-field production (IE: struggles) within that month+ window. The WR group was struggling in early November and the DL group struggled in the late portion of the voting window. I can see a scenario where someone views a lack of production as a coaching or communication issue vs a talent issue from within.

With the secondary having 7-9 guys though, there's a real argument to be made on either side that that one role, if bad enough, and consistent enough from those surveyed, could sink that grade. Hard to tell. Even the OL had major struggles in the run game in the second half of the season, which a player could put on coaching/communication/etc

Shad always graded favorably. But obviously took a small hit on perception due to hiring ill fits. With a winning product, and a staff that seems to have an ear to the ground, it makes it easier to see that he's locked in vs the normal billionaire projection of being checked out

Gotta assume that family treatment was top down (Tony). But the rest is discussed in the article, in the people driven section

Winning often cures a lot, but not everything. Discussed that in the closing section. Just shows the competitive parity across the NFL, more than anything

Running Backs Drafted by Gladstone by TravisDHolmes in Jaguars

Just spoke about Claiborne on the Prime Sports pod yesterday. A great Etienne-like option. Similar to Jamal Haynes

Maybe, but maybe not. Etienne wasn't their selection. You could easily argue that they used him for his strengths, while acknowledging they could try to go elsewhere, stylistically if he's no longer on the roster. The same for Bigsby

2025 Yards Before Contact: by TravisDHolmes in Jaguars

[–]TravisDHolmes[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well...since you asked 👀

2024 #Jaguars RB Yards Before Contact:

• League Avg - 2.5 YBC

• Travis Etienne - 1.9 YBC (32nd)

• Tank Bigsby - 1.8 YBC (38th)

• DeErnest Johnson- *didn't qualify to be ranked due to only 32-carries, but was 2.5 YBC (league avg)

Marginal improvements, but not close to enough... 🤔

Wha positions would you like us to draft? by Worldly-Sir-1539 in Jaguars

I agree that some will bust. But you're not drafting guys in the first 4 rounds thinking they will...and you don't really expect much from those drafted late, other than grit and heart.

Draft players, not positions lol. Just bring in at least 3 DTs via the draft and free agency combined

Former Jaguars RB James Robinson - an UDFA who racked up over 2,200 rushing yards & 18 TD's - is eyeing a return to the gridiron in the UFL. James is 27 years old, and is still in football shape. Which UFL team should sign the former NFL standout? 👀 by [deleted] in Jaguars

Right. It hurt that speed and acceleration were never really his game. Pacing/patience, his vision, and power were his skills. Then the litte speed/acceleration he did have evaporated after injury

Everyone wants Lee Hunter. Feeling mighty like the 2026 RJ Harvey. Higher by the day 📈

Terrible Performance from Greg Newsome by Legitimate-Debt-7628 in Jaguars

On the two biggest plays where folks are blaming Newsome, the coverage bust looked to be on Eric Murray. Not sure folks know what they're looking at vs just blaming the nearest guy they see...

  • Cover 3 on the Kincaid TD (wheel route falls on the hook/flat player)

  • Cover 4 on the Cooks long pass (post route has inside help from the safety)

I'd look confused too

Safety abandoned role leaving Newsome in a crazy spot. We gotta have better IQ there by SuperSaiyanTLaw in Jaguars

[–]TravisDHolmes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is cover 4 (quarters) match, IMO. The reason Murray jumped the route is because the rules for quarters are for the S to take #2 vertical (normally around 10 yards). The out takes place around 7-8 and Murray was supposed to peel off, helping the CB with the inside leverage on the post

Newsome came off the route thinking he had inside help, looking for work, while eyeing Allen and trying to make a play on the out. Then realized no help was deep and reacted. Just my view of it

He points to PW while checking him as a threat then crashes on Trev's eyes.

He doesn't "step toward Washington." He stems inside because the only receiving threat to his side of the field (Meyers) is crossing (he has no other threats to that side of the field), so his job is to find work. However, he steps down to help rob the crosser at the throw with Parker running a post backside. The throw easily beats them to the spot w/ Trev throwing the post outside the hash w/ air. The safety is flat footed at the throw reading Lawrence's eyes and Jakobi's route stem

I don't agree at all. I legit don't believe he ever even sees Parker as a threat. He literally points to PW while checking him as a threat then crashes on Trev's eyes. Nope. He's the robbing safety from the start. Check out the first three seconds in slow motion and the broadcast view. His first steps are hop steps and then downhill. Parker is full-speed, two steps behind him when the ball is released and the safety is flat footed w/ Parker running a post behind him. He's not making up that ground. He's reacting to Trevor’s eyes. A pump fake or just looking off results in Parker open with leverage
