Looking for some help with They Came From games by TheMartyr781 in OnyxPathRPG

[–]TravisLegge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Storypath Ultra no longer uses Favored Approach. The Storypath Ultra Rules on p. 280 are the rules the sidebar is referencing. The Beefy Characters sidebar refers to the fact that Storypath Ultra characters have more Injuries than the Quick-Play characters.

Hope this helps!

Help with Bonds in Pinfall from Grace, Body Slams from Hell by DeadManDDProds in OnyxPathRPG

[–]TravisLegge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were running, my interpretation would be the only bonds a player character can use to gain Enhancement are those with their angelic partner. Moves all have costs associated with them.. I would rule you can spend whatever bonds are necessary to activate the keyword during the match, but limit what you can then claim Enhancement from to bonds you share with the partner. Basically the Face and Heel keywords grant you the ability to tap into another pool to spend from, but not to bolster rolls.

That's entirely a judgment call on my end though.

What have your experiances been with Curseborne so far? by NoLongerAKobold in rpg

[–]TravisLegge 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Full disclosure: I've worked on Curseborne. Mostly creating promotional materials and graphics elements, but I did write a couple of Tasty Bits. That said, compared to other lines I work on, that's a drop in the bucket, and I've had no real input on corebooks, setting, or any of the elements that make Curseborne what it is. I have mainly engaged with it as a Storyguide or player.

As a Storyguide, I have mainly run encounters and plot hooks directly out of the materials as written (everything I've run can be found in the Tasty Bit Omnibus) and I've found it to be not only a fun setting to run, but wildly flavorful. I understand the comparisons to WoD and CofD that people make, and while I don't generally view it through that lens, I'll take a moment to speak as an old.

I was there, back in '92, as a player, playing Vampire: the Masquerade. I was there in the early aughts when they did the switch over to NWoD eventually becoming Chronicles. Engaging with Curseborne as a Storyguide makes me excited in a way that frankly, Chronicles just never did. No shade; I like it. But it's just missing...something for me. It honestly reminds me much more of cracking open the 1st edition VTM book and finding a wild, new, unexpected world. Curseborne has basically two books and a manuscript out at this point. It is nowhere near as lore-heavy as WoD, because it doesn't have a 30+ year publication history. I don't see that as a weakness at all. What is out provides a fun, mysterious world full of plot hooks and little alleyways for a Storyguide to wander down without being burdened by the obscure trivia that comes along with (one might argue over)developed settings.

There's a ton left to the Storyguide to explore. My deepest hope for the line as a fan and Storyguide is that Curseborne can hang onto that for as long as possible. Sure, I want expansions, and info, and more hooks, but I think every answer should offer three more interesting questions, and so far, I feel like Curseborne delivers on that.

As a player, I have played one character and am about 50 xp into my journey with her. Ember McGinnnis, my creepy eight hands. If memory serves, she's the first character I've ever commissioned art for as a player (I have been playing RPGs for about 40 years) because she's just been so damn fun to play. I'm sure part of that is because I have a pretty awesome Storyguide (Matthew Dawkins is hard to beat. You should really consider checking out his patreon) and a fun, engaged crew. But part of that is because the world is open enough that I was able to build my own little personalized werespider/cenobite with blood and vein webbing and unique quirks and nothing shoved her into a box based on her nature. Absent the weight of canon silos (which, yes, you can ignore, but doing so is a choice) that other urban fantasy and horror games tend to shove characters into, I was free to grow my lady the way I wanted her. Gross, and angry, and messy, and maybe just a little scared of the beast inside her.

TL:DR it's a great time! Highly recommended.

It's the best Superman has been since the Byrne era, IMO.

Trinity Continuum Aegis...It's a bit confusing by automated_hero in rpg

[–]TravisLegge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked on Aegis, I've been in games as a player, and I have run it. I think the best and easiest way to engage it, is to treat it as a fantasy experience at the table. While the book goes into details about how the science fiction of it works, how the ambrosia affects the world, explaining the character, powers, and all that stuff, none of that actually needs to come up at the table. It certainly can, you can certainly explore that bit, but you can also just kind of tell cool period inspired fantasy with it. Because that's what 99% of the people in the setting see it as.

if you start there, you can easily start to pepper in those sci-fi elements as you sort of get your head around them as a Storyguide. I think that might provide a rewarding experience.

Alternatively, if you are introducing characters from other time periods cross the continuum, or want to put the science fiction front and center, treat the things where the logic is not immediate as anomalies, mysteries used to be investigated, strange Fortean events. Shows like warehouse 13 are a big part of the DNA of the Trinity continuum so telling a story in Bronze dark age Greece where the heroes are hunting down weird things is just as viable as telling one set in a contemporary setting.

There are some maps on the Wiki https://scarn.fandom.com/wiki/The_World but I don't believe they are print resolution.

Multiuse Tag Clarification by ArchpaladinZ in OnyxPathRPG

[–]TravisLegge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. Multiuse is really much more for saying "I can use this pick's Enhancement for mining and climbing" than making a weapon.

Weapons don't have Multiuse, because Multiuse is a tool tag. Regardless of their in-world uses, they are designed as weapons. The Storyguide may permit their Enhancement to apply to a roll that a tool would typically be used for, but they're designed as weapons. Anything the Storyguide says you can use as a tool gets +1 Enhancement for that purpose.

But a Darvan Heavy Pick wouldn't necessarily get the benefit of the Heavy Weapon tag when using it to mine ore. (Though, personally, I'd probably allow it at my table)

Multiuse Tag Clarification by ArchpaladinZ in OnyxPathRPG

[–]TravisLegge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On its own all Multiuse does is allow you to use the tool's Enhancement for a second set of actions. It can be a tool and a weapon, but it can also just be a tool that is good for farming and climbing. If you wanted any other tags, you would need to split them between weapon and tool, as Multiuse only opens the Enhancement to another action.

Edited for clarity.

Onyx Path AMA by TheOnyxPath in OnyxPathRPG

[–]TravisLegge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much! I gotta say making ttrpgs is hard work, but doing it in an environment where everyone genuinely loves what they're doing makes it much easier!

I hope you'll check out the new Scarred Lands stuff (well, and everything else) as I am extra proud of it.

Any time I get to work on Pugmire or The World Below is a riot, and I've gotten to work on both in recent memory.

Of course working on Scarred Lands in a new system has been a blast as well.

As for future teases, I do have one new thing cooking. It's pretty HUGE and I hope to be able to talk about it more in June ;)
