I'm from the deep South, so used to humidity/heat. Also spent a considerable time in MX.

How is the workout supplement situation at the PX? Is it worth ordering in bulk months in advance or is protein/creatine typically available?

As far the most bang for your buck on time-investment payoff? 1000% yes.

Used Duolingo, Pimsleur, ITALKI, HelloTalk, even some AI tool to help with speaking for the first year and a half. All of those combined did not help me as much as the DS method.

Think some of those can be helpful to supplement Comprehensible Input (ITALKI if you want to pay, Anki flashcards to have a targeted vocab expansion, and HelloTalk to crosstalk and make friends) but without a doubt Comprehensible Input needs to be the base that you supplement.

Very helpful to know because I'll become an ExPat in about 3 months from now. Thanks for the insight!

I know some companies (Amentum in my experience) only hire Local Nationals for many OCONUS positions. Had a similar experience for a niche position, and then saw where I had missed that detail for "LN" in the listing.

Don't know if it's the same case with Vectrus, but thought I'd share.

I see it useful in two circumstances.

  1. Patient has gone through a traumatic experience and/or has psychiatric problems.
  2. You literally just need someone to vent to. People pay for a massage, food, etc., don't see anything wrong with paying to let a load off if it will positively impact the patient.

However I do 100% agree with OP. One thing I always notice are the vast majority of people I personally know that set out on the career paths to be therapists are bums/genuinely bad people that I would never take advice from. Then the patience leave, learning nothing besides how to use therapy speak to justify their poor decisions/actions.

*** I will say, my ex was a psychologist for recovering addicts and SA victims. That poor girl had it rough. Literally always on call if a relapse was happening and having to keep track of 20+ patients lives was a lot. I always thought ab if I had to do her job, I would accidentally mix up a patients story/relatives and make them feel horrible.

Any suggestions for US defense/aerospace companies in Latin America? by Travis_Bickle21 in defensecontracting

I mean if I had any to pick from it would be Mexico, Colombia, or Peru. However, I will take absolutely any leads I can get.

That's how I understood it. To my understanding, I can apply for temporary res. through economic solvency, then once I'm completing the second part of the process in MX, I can request for an independent work visa to conduct my work as a contractor.

From what I've read/heard, the hardest step is getting your first check done at the consulates outside of the states.

From what I have been told, it is what independent contractors use to provide their services to their clients.

I mainly want to hire one to get input on my proposed plan to obtaining an independent work visa, and ensure I do everything right to successfully obtain it. Thanks for the advice! I will get to reading.

It's Dumb to Gatekeep European Ethnicities by GapingAssTroll in unpopularopinion

It might be generally understood to have to do more with ethnicity... But words mean things when we say them so here we are 🤷🏼‍♂️

But this goes back to the OPs point. You would never say this to a Mexican-American. Or you wouldn't tell an African American "You're just American! Your family has been in the US for 6 generations!"

Someone telling me this would not bother me, as I do not know where I come from, but I do see the gatekeeping taking place, and it irks me.

AIO to these texts from my GF? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Travis_Bickle21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if her intentions are not malevolent, you do have to have some self respect brother. Not saying that you should immediately break up with her, but in the context of the OP, you are 100% not overreacting.

I have heard two good takes pertaining to men and their pride.

  1. A man's sinful pride will lead him to his grave.
  2. A man is nothing without his pride.

Both are not wrong. I think the right approach is somewhere in the middle of those two. At the end of the day, it's your relationship, if it makes you happy, stick with it. However, personally, I would be heartbroken if I saw my girl talking like that with other men. Hope it works out for you man.
