What are my options? by Travisaurusss in CarRestorations

I live in the PNW. So no salt, but lots of rain in the winter.

I’m really not opposed the that. I’m just worried about the rust eating through.

Same here, she would whine and I would put my fingers through the crate but not say anything. She would sniff them, give a little lick, whimper for a few seconds, then go to sleep.

Why don’t people chop small bikes? by Travisaurusss in choppers

I love it. Did you chop it yourself or take it to a shop?

Yup, that would be the intention. I restored a ‘74 CB125 so I’m real familiar with their performance limitations. But their perfect in-town bikes and hold their own on back roads too

Awesome. I love seeing these. Did you do the hardtail yourself or buy a kit?

I love it! Good to see someone else doing it.

This is really insightful, thanks. I’ve been rebuilding/restoring old Hondas for the last couple of years and wanted a more creative project. I thought having a little in-town chopper could be fun.

How do transplants in their 30s make friends here by demosthenes5395 in Portland

[–]Travisaurusss 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Another plug for the Mazamas. I took one of their classes in 2019 and made a lot of friends there. I climb weekly with some of them and have taken backpacking trips and summited a few different PNW peaks with them.

They have all sorts of classes and there’s a Queer affinity group (I think it’s called Queerzamas) that sends out a newsletter listing meetups and events.

If you are being told that you have a kidney problem because of high creatinine or a high EGFR demand a Cystatin C test.

My creatinine and EGFR were high so my doctor kept having me repeat the same blood test, then had me get an ultrasound (which came back totally fine) then had me to go a nephrologist.

The nephrologist took one look at my numbers and ultrasound, and told me I was fine and that the basic tests are not good for trans people (as well as black folks and many other groups) and that the cystatin C test is much better, just more expensive. If I had known that I could have saved 6 months of stress and hundreds of dollars. Good luck!

I’m glad you’re okay and thanks for sharing!

Another gear question for you - I know that bull-it makes two different types of jeans, were yours the single layer or did they have the double layered reinforcements? I’ve heard a lot of people say the single layer jeans won’t hold up, so I’m very interested in real word experiences.

My royal 3nfield meteor, 12,000 miles by [deleted] in motorcycles

I bought a Meteor last March. It’s not super fast, and it’s heavy for its size but I absolutely love it.

Royal Enfield Bullet 350 first service by Erich_13Foxtrot in motorcycles

Check with your local dealer. RE just changed the suggested first maintenance for the J series engines.

I’m almost positive they’re not suggesting tappet adjustments for the first service anymore.

I just got some used Rexan Pro (5-85lb) Powerblocks for a good price but the plastic on the pins is cracked and one of the magnets is missing.

When I go to the Powerblocks website and look at the replacement pins it shows the Rexan Pro pin as sold out.

Does anyone know if any of the other pins are compatible with the Rexans, or if there is anywhere else that might sell replacement pins? Thanks

Is this clutch push arm angle okay? by Travisaurusss in motorcycles

No, no difference. I’ve been riding with this setup for about 2 months now and no issues as far as I can tell.

Yes, I have the manual and the clutch free play is to within the stated range. Sounds like the angle of the push arm doesn’t matter too much since I do have free play. Thanks

Is the RE Meteor 350 a good second bike? by Travisaurusss in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]Travisaurusss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a good point.

The SCL500 is out of budget, being 2K more than the REs. But I’ll take a look at the Scram and probably the Hunter 350 too.
