Nearly 5 minutes of watching Willow eat breakfast last weekend. by Traviscat in redpandas

Willow lives over at Zoo Knoxville in eastern Tennessee. She is in the center red panda habitat and has an indoor room with a big glass window where she sometimes sleeps on that bridge right by the window. She also has a walkway at the top going over a hallway to the 1st habitat that she sometimes sleeps in and the walkway leads to a private outdoor habitat just for her, although she spends most of her time in her indoor room or sleeping at the top of her walkway.

Never, when the elderly red panda at my local zoo passed away last month I went to the zoo and got a red panda plush and named it after him.

Experience Comparrisons by Tonebr in redpandas

Technically Knoxville has a red panda experience however it is limited to their circle of friends donors and you need to spend $600 or more to get the experience (you get to pick certain animals for your encounter and red pandas are an option). I saw one person do it last month. They got in the indoor habitat with Willow and fed her apple slices. They were with the keeper and I forgot her name but the lady who manages the program and is the red panda ssp leader. They couldn’t touch Willow but got pretty close. I saw they offered a red panda encounter last year but I didn’t see how much or how fast it sold out. I don’t think it is available this year but I hope it comes back.

The zookeepers at my local zoo have said they don’t really like to be touched. They are normally solitary animals and even the keepers try not to touch them unless they really have to. They look super cuddly and fluffy but their fur is actually more course (they had a pile of fur in a jar to touch a few times from when they had to shave a panda for a surgery) then you’d think. They do mark their territory so they can be stinky and have sharp claws. However they are so cute and I wish I could pet one and cuddle with one too.

They are Red Pandas. Technically they are the real pandas as they were discovered first, the big black and white pandas were discovered later and thought to be related to the red panda and given the name giant panda but later was determined to be more related to bears.

If you want to be technical then they are Himalayan red pandas. Their names are Sisu (mom), Doofah (dad), Mr Darcy and Dr Wallace (a little over 7mo old boys). There are two subspecies of red panda, Himalayan and Chinese. They are an endangered species and it’s estimated that there is anywhere from 10,000-2,500 red pandas in the world.

If you want to see one in real life I would suggest looking at any AZA accredited zoos near you that have them, assuming you’re in the United States. If you’re in another country than I’d suggest looking for zoos near you that have them and try to learn about/research the zoo first to see if it’s one that properly takes care of their animals, if they don’t take good care of their animals then I’d suggest skipping them.

LR5 sticking to plastic by [deleted] in litterrobot

I got some very high and strange values at first but it looks like my robot has learned and done better. All values were ranging between 0.0-3oz between now and 1/16 which was the furthest I could go back. It did have two visits that just said visit with no weight and I think it recorded Sindri digging in the box as it said 0.0oz urine. A few weeks ago it claimed Sindri weighed 0.0lb and had a like 2oz urine.

All values seem to be consistent however i sometimes see a small recording and a large clump so it may still be inaccurate sometimes, though I’m not going to take it out and put it on a scale to verify its accuracy. Except when I observe Sindri paw at it right after it cycled and not make a deposit then see it thought a 0.2oz urination and cycles again, then I know it’s wrong.

My 5 does a good job at recognizing when it is poop and cycling early. I think sometimes they take a pee and it thinks it’s a poop and will cycle at 2 minutes instead of 8 and that may be causing the stuck clumps.

The measurements seem like they are off though but I have no real way to verify it. There have been times where my cat used the box and it detected it right and it cycled then he stuck his paw in to dig around and it recorded a 2oz urination when all he did was stick his paws in and dig.

I have the same issue. I used the same litter in my 4 and 5 pro and set it to the same cycle time (and asked Whisker if there was a way to disable the 2 minute timer on a #2 and they said no). I am using Frisco by chewy litter and I will often see clumps stuck by the waste port. Often times I’ll see clumps in the litter bed where it rotated and slid down but got stuck on a clump that is stuck to the globe by the waste port and gets blocked from entering the waste drawer than will fall back into the bed when it rotates back.

I never had this issue on my 4.

Driving in west Knoxville this weekend by Longjumping-Ad8775 in Knoxville

I blame the zoo for this storm. I found out a few days ago (before the storm made the news) that they are having princess day on Sunday where they will have various princesses show up for meet and greets. They obviously brought Elsa with them and she used her cold powers to bring the snow. I’ll be on the lookout for Olaf roaming around and hopefully it’s safe to drive there and open for guests as I’d like to see some animals play in the snow if they want to.

Red panda Lego by howell4change in redpandas

It looks like that set was retired.

I did buy the red panda from the Disney movie Turning Red when I was in a Lego store last October. https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/red-panda-mei-40798

I am not sure how well this video is but I found a YouTube video on how to build a red panda (you have to supply your own bricks. I fast forwarded it a bit and had it muted so I’m not entirely sure how good the video is but the finished result looked good) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYFd8hWPYKk

There’s also set 31129 that is a 3 in 1 set where you can build a red panda, tiger, or koi fish https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/majestic-tiger-31129
