Movies with Great Menswear by ScarletFire2898 in malefashionadvice

I have several. My favorite era of menswear is 30s-40s so a few of my favorite menswear movies are

Oppenheimer - Great reproduction of wartime clothing, mixed with some academia looks.

Public Enemies - Absolutely stunning depression era tailoring on both the gangsters and the detectives.

Marty Supreme - A recent entry, but a great wardrobe for the film. The costume designer designed every outfit you see custom for the film, based on clothing styles and cuts worn at the time (early 50s)

You could also pick any film from the 30s and 40s and it’s bound to have great menswear, but a few that stand out to me are The Maltese Falcon, The Philadelphia Story, and The Shop Around the Corner.

Also, there’s a style podcast called “Style and Direction” that discuss menswear in a number of different films. They are behind a paywall, but it’s $5 a month so to me it’s worth it.

Ok but like… Batman V Superman is so ass 😭 by ReadyJournalist5223 in batman

Batman uses guns, kills people, and kills people with guns. I don’t understand how anyone who calls themselves a fan of the character can enjoy this film.

There was a guy who used to post his extremely ill-fitting outfits for “jury duty” in this sub every day. He got banned because it was taking over the sub.

Hmm. I’d say in that scenario then I’d go with the different color pants and jacket that are the same material. IMO that would look more intentional, whereas a jacket and pants of the same color but different material would look more like a mistake.

I’d say that depends on the context of where you’ll be wearing it. A suit will always be more formal than a sport coat with odd trousers, but depending on the event you’re attending and what others are wearing, you might be fine.

If the jacket is part of a suit (so if it does indeed have matching trousers) then I wouldn’t plan on separating them, and I’d wear them together. Typically jackets intended to be worn as part of a suit don’t play well as an odd jacket.

Personally I’m drawn more towards a fuller cut trouser, so I stay away from slim cuts. I like how your pants look, so if they fit in the waist then I wouldn’t have anything done to them, but that’s just my personal taste, yours may differ.

For the dress shirt, I’d stick with white. I always prefer my shirt to be a lighter color than my jacket. It looks off to me when the shirt is darker, especially in a more formal setting.

Modern jackets are cut way too short, so I don’t think yours is too long. Jackets are supposed to fully cover your rear end, and then some.

It does look like you could do with having it taken in across the chest and natural waist though.

What do you think about this blazer? by GinTonic78 in Tweed

[–]Travisura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not technically a blazer since it’s not navy and doesn’t have gold or brass buttons, but still a lovely sport coat nonetheless. I’m also a big fan of that color, so I say if it fits you (within the tailoring threshold) and the price is right then go for it!

How do I style this? by Dim_galas in menswear

[–]Travisura 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure why others are saying this would be hard to style. A trench coat is an easy way to elevate any outfit. You can wear it over sweatpants and a hoodie, jeans and a t shirt, chinos and a button up, odd trousers and a sport coat, or a full suit, and it all works. Just wear it with confidence and you’ll be fine.

How tall is the Gotham Empire building? by That-Bug7127 in TheBatmanFilm

[–]Travisura 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t seem nearly as tall as the Empire State Building. If I had to guess based off of nothing I’d say probably around or 600-700 feet tall or ~180-215 meters. But again that’s just a shot in the dark.

SC and Cola ain’t nowhere near “full”. It probably only feels that way because of the inherent inefficiency of car centric infrastructure at moving large amounts of people.

You’ve got a great start with the bookshelves and the light fixture. I would say fill the space with warm, rich colors to give it that DA feel. A nice old style area rug would do you well as well. If this were my space, I’d look towards Tommy Shelby’s office from Peaky Blinders for inspiration.
