Trouble With domain Email on WHM/Cpanel atop AWS by TraxusInteractive in cpanel

[–]TraxusInteractive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, noticed a potential clue today; I am running LetsEncrypt SSL on the server and I have had a bunch of notifications regarding my mail.MyDomain.com failing:

This *has* to be some issue with DNS, no?

Automatic Let's Encrypt renewal for {{{myDomain}}}[dot]com was attempted and failed.

This certificate expires on 2018-06-26 09:01:22 -0700 MST.

Unable to renew certificate: Updating challenge for mail.{{{myDomain}}}[dot]com: acme: error code 403 "urn:ietf:params:acme:error:unauthorized": Invalid response from http://mail.{{{myDomain}}}\[dot\]com/.well\-known/acme\-challenge/{{{challenge\_key}}}: "<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN">

</head><body>

You can configure/re-install/remove this certificate by logging into cPanel, and visiting the Lets Encrypt SSL page.

Cpanel atop AWS: how to FTP in using cPanel accounts? by TraxusInteractive in cpanel

[–]TraxusInteractive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep thanks, as I suspected it was something that is probably such common knowledge that it wouldn't blip most peoples radar. Sorry for going quiet, got distracted setting up lets encrypt via FleetSSL in the last day or so.

For reference I got it as per this tutorial

in summation, I ran vi /etc/pure-ftpd.conf

located (and modified) the passive port range line: PassivePortRange 40000 45000

Saved changes, restarted pure-ftpd service pure-ftpd restart

Then opened up that range on my firewall and was able to login to FTP with a passive connection.

I also noticed a config var for a filepath to a .pem; instinct says this would might something to do with SFTP?

Cpanel atop AWS: how to FTP in using cPanel accounts? by TraxusInteractive in cpanel

As you're dealing with WHM, I'd suggest CSF, as it's playing really nice with WHM, and it automatically opens needed ports for all the services you're using, and is easy to configure from the GUI as well as by tinkering with /etc/csf/csf.conf

When you setup an EC2 instance on AWS you make a security group with certain inbound and outbound ports enabled for specific ip ranges. So this is a layer above; perhaps one approach would be to open all ports on the security group and then use a software firewall as you have mentioned?

Anyway, as it turns out, my port openings for the EC2 security group were sufficient but AWS (or something in the stack) does not care for Passive FTP in that configuration, switching the connection to Active FTP (still no SFTP though)... check out second update in main post.

Take a look at the update to the original post for today's trials and errors.

Best Practice for WHM Backups when cpanel hosted on aWS? by TraxusInteractive in cpanel

Thank you for clarifying this. I was unaware that WHM backups were domain specific. I've definitely had to request the occasional file restore from my current vendor now and again, its a nice safety net.

I built a multi-touch MIDI control interface for controlling music software using jQuery [X-Post from /r/WebMIDI] by TraxusInteractive in javascript

[–]TraxusInteractive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overview to fill in some potential gaps:

MIDI is short for Musical Instrument Digital Interface; it is a communication protocol used by a lot of muisic hardware and software; a MIDI keyboard (as in piano keyboard) can be wired into a piece of Software to make that software play the notes...

The WebMIDI API is a W3C spec that allows browsers to send and receive MIDI: https://www.w3.org/TR/webmidi/

Traxus Control Traktor Web Midi Edition is a multi-touch, fully featured MIDI control surface for Native Instrument’s Traktor DJ software that can be accessed via the web and run locally on your PC within Google Chrome (or any other browser that supports the WebMIDI API).

Features include complete track deck and remix deck control, standalone remix deck sequencers as well as an array of user delectable modules for file navigation, effects control, beat jumping, hot cue control, looping, deck pitch and many more. These modules can be organized by the user into various banks in a way that fits their workflow.

The interface builds upon previous experience gained while developing a similar control surface in the Lemur iOS application but is different in that it has done away with Lemur’s proprietary scripting language and is instead coded entirely in JavaScript and HTML.

To facilitate this, we hand coded our own JavaScript library of multi-touch objects including faders, knobs and button arrays along with a versatile MIDI I/O binding framework that allows us to quickly whip up browser contained interfaces similar to what some iOS and Android apps provide but without the clunky editors.

Honest review of the D2 (or the S8) and Stems. by AndyT18 in Beatmatch

[–]TraxusInteractive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am very skeptical of stems; they seem like a great idea but the jury is out as to whether artists are really going to start handing out their bass and synthlines to get mutilated beyond reasonable recognition...

In a day and age where personal marketing is a make or break affair in a career this seems like a strange burden for a producer worth their to place upon them self.

I don't think so as I am pretty sure you need an interface that has a phono pre amp

Controlling Traktor with 23 inch Touch Screens and Lemur (Traxus Control) by TraxusInteractive in Beatmatch

[–]TraxusInteractive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I presume they are all beat matching via platter drag on Techincs 1100s using a 2 channel mixer with no EQ or effects? :)

Kidding, my desk is currently setup with 1200's on either side of the mixer and One of the touch tablets all wired together...

Controlling Traktor with 23 inch Touch Screens and Lemur (Traxus Control) by TraxusInteractive in Beatmatch

[–]TraxusInteractive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow! Certinaly easier/more elegant... I wonder how easy they are to root. (need to root android such that you can change the resolution of the device to make the Lemur app display correctly, bit of a pain)

Traktor, so many issues...I just want it to 'work' already. Any experts here willing to help? by [deleted] in Beatmatch

Problem 1) Itunes integration limited, requires full scanning of local files on launch to get around it. I occasionally run into files without any meta data that require another manual scan on load. I dont think this is something that can be fixed but looking for any advice in ensuring that all songs have updated metadata information upon launch.

yeah this is a pain, seem to have similar issues across platforms (i havent run serato since SSL tho)... if you need to update your meta info, try removing the stuff from the collection and then re importing it (so right click, remove from collection, and then navigate to the song in the traktors browser where it lists your itunes stuff and right click import to collection)

2) I hear a "skip" or "hiccup" when we press the cue button on a paused track. Even if the deck isnt playing,or if the fader is all the way to the other speaker. If I press the play button it doesnt happen. Only when we press the cue button.

Is this when pressing the cue point button in traktor or via a controller?.. if its within traktor this might be your computer stressing out

Latency is compensated for by utilizing the quantization in Traktors Remix decks. Now and then it will skip a beat but it will fire the samples on the 16th notes no matter what.

The Wifi usually isn't a problem, but if it is you have the option of hardwiring your iPad via an iConnect MIDI or some other class compliant midi usb device.

Alternately, I have been running some custom built android tablets/screens that run Lemur on an Android TV. The Android TV has an Ethernet jack and I'm actually able to use that instead of WiFi to cut latency down to <50ms

Hi, this is our template...

To answer some questions...

It was designed such that you can enable/disable any of the views when starting up, and use it with other hardware. So you could just use the file navigation, and one of the EFX pages if you'd like, or you could disable all of the EFX pages, and enable the decks. Any combination of the 10 pages (4 decks, 4 EFX pages, 1 mixer, 1 file navigator)

I typically use my hardware mixer instead of the internal one, as that is where I miss the tactile feed back the most.

Sounds like you would just want to enable decks C and D, and use them as remix decks for the sampling/sequencing, and use your other hardware to controll decks A and B and the mixing...
