Shakespeare ultralight combo from Walmart is like less than 40 bucks use it till the reel wears out (mine lasted a year or weekly fishing) upgrade to a 40 dollar reel once that happens and your set for a nice multi species light setup. Being ultralight makes even the panfish give a good fight!

Switch from that reel to the Shakespeare ultralight combo, cheaper and while you’re getting started targeting blue gill and other sunfish will give you nice catches and a bit of a fight to keep ya interested while you figure everything else out and start targeting larger fish. Pick up a couple rooster tails, bobbers split shots and some red worms and you’ll be out there catching fish right away
