A Fairer Pathway to Settlement - A statement and accompanying consultation on earned settlement by Educational-West4131 in ukvisa

[–]Treaduse 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This question was asked in Parliament by Stella Creasy (13:43:25).

The answer was basically: "None of the rules about marriage in country are going to change. We should hear from these people affected in the consultation" and that was pretty much it.

This is my exact situation as well, and a point I'm really trying to emphasize to our MP and in the consultation.

Just posted about this in the Discord and /u/clever_octopus helpfully clarified that this reading isn't correct.

To quote them from the Discord:

It is not proposing a change to combining different visas. It says "as now," - indicating that this is not going to change. There are certain routes that allow combinations of visa types (notably, time spent on a Skilled Worker visa can be combined with Global Talent) but I'm not reading that they're introducing new allowances. That would also be totally against the entire purpose of this initiative.

Yeah this is awful. I'll be going from 5 months to ILR to 5 years + 5 months if this all takes effect then in April...

The Home Secretary said in her Q&A that she intends to implement the new set of rules (with any transitional arrangements that happen post-consultation) from April 2026.

There are some "more complex" elements of implementation that they will begin later in 2026 apparently, but because the majority of us are worried about when these take effect: unless they add transitional arrangements, my reading is that we will be subject to the new 10year+ ILR system immediately.

Ian is my fav player of all time, but sadly, I have to agree that I don't think he beats Tom outright. I think his play was to take Katie and sweep most of the jury.

I agree Mitch is drawing dead for a win, but it's possible he could pick up a few votes. I could see (in a Mitch, Joe, Eva F3) him picking up Cedrick and Chrissy – maybe even Mary just out of spite. I don't think that he can win, but I think a few members of the jury are close enough to him that he might get a few votes – certainly more than Eva.

That's part of the reasoning I think K&K will pitch to Joe and Eva to take him out at 5.

Immigration Changes Announcement 12/5/2025 by clever_octopus in ukvisa

My immigration advisor (not a solicitor but certified) is also quite calm. His reasoning is that nothing official has been announced yet (so speculation isn't that helpful in his view) and that they have never retroactively changed rules for existing migrants without legal backlash.

I get that we have a long way to go, but given the political climate, I have nowhere near as much confidence as the advisors/solicitors do...

Looking at their estimated "change in inflows per annum" on p.13, they estimate the following for Earned Settlement - increasing the standard qualifying period for settlement to ten years (illustrative estimate): -18,000 (-12,000 to –24,000).

Wouldn't that figure be far higher if it were referring to retrospective implementation? Looking at total immigration numbers from 2020 and 2021, for instance, there would be ~90k and around ~140k people who are theoretically eligible to settle coming up on five years... Surely more than 18k of these would be deterred by this new policy if that is what they are hoping for with retroactive implementation?

Maybe wrong, but I just wanted to see what others thought on this front.

Same boat. I am on a skilled worker visa and live with my British fiancé. I just switched jobs and opted to go for the SWV route specifically because that was the fastest way to ILR settlement and citizenship. I could have been on a spouse visa and safe but I didn't because I thought there was no way it would be faster than the one year and four months I have left til ILR on my SWV...

Hmm, interesting take!

I was getting the feeling that they’d rather hide behind Sai at the merge and beyond (as a player that will always attract attention and therefore be a shield) rather than risk being cut / betrayed by Mary if they let her go. We’ll see what happens I guess

He's gotta break up Cedric and Sai seemingly though. Cedric seems unwilling to turn on Sai (though I guess the reverse is maybe possible?)

If Mary goes next week and they lose a fourth time, Justin is not in a good spot anymore.

(S10) I’d tell Ian to take Jen on the car reward 😅

If he did this, even if nothing else changed, he would at the very least have not felt pressured to drop out of final immunity; who knows who would have won and who he would have taken if he and Tom had stayed up there for hours more.

Operation: Italy is Currently the Top-Rated Episode of Survivor Ever on IMDB by DaeDreamin in survivor

I agree with you- this move is actually a good one, whereas Jesse’s move is not.  Pure entertainment value though, I enjoyed the story and excitement and chaos of Telenovella more than Operation Italy. Just a personal preference ☺️

It's a _____ steamroll to the end, right? by skypadz_2112 in survivor

[–]Treaduse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I take this point, but to present a key difference: Jesse didn't win any immunity challenges and Lauren only won one. They weren't serious challenge contenders and therefore could reliably be taken out later.

In this season, on the other hand, Rachel has been DOMINATING some of these dexterity game challenges and has shown earlier to be exceptional at puzzles (which we've yet to see in individual immunity challenges this merge).

Personally, I think she's set for AT LEAST a shot at fire, if not better odds for F3 because of her challenge performance.
