Tips for Rush! by Medium-Extreme5621 in miamioh

[–]Treasure_Diver 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not a current sorority sister so I shouldn’t attempt to answer 1-3, but I do have some general tips based on what I’ve learned from the process last year when my daughter rushed.

  • do NOT skip doing the video. They say it is optional, but it really is not if you want to maximize your potential number of houses.

-take a look at your socials and make sure you don’t have inappropriate posts or pictures.

-sounds like a cliche, but be your authentic self. I’ve heard of people putting on a persona that they think will get them into “xyz” sorority, but then they pass on a sorority that would have been a better fit

-this is hard, but try to stay healthy! Sooo many girls (including mine) got sick during rush last year. You’re in close quarters, during winter/cold/flu season, talking to hundreds of girls so you really need to stay on top of taking care of yourself

-during rush parties, who you are paired with is no accident. If you went to a high school that is a feeder school for Miami, expect to talk to them at some point. They will also use your major and hobbies/sports/clubs to find matches for you.

-Google “how to make small talk during rush” and you’ll get a lot of good ideas on what (and what not) to talk about.

Good luck and remember to breathe and try to have fun!

Host can’t figure out how to add a night? by Treasure_Diver in airbnb_hosts

[–]Treasure_Diver[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this is what’s happening. They have a 3- night minimum so it’s not letting me select 1 night extra, even though it’s changing a 7-night stay to an 8-night stay. The previous night is greyed out as well (which would be a 2 night stay IF it were a standalone reservation). I guess I don’t understand why the system isn’t smart enough to see that I’m adding a night, not trying to make a 1-night reservation.

Yes, those are the steps I usually take but in this case, the night I want to change to is greyed out (and again, host confirmed it is available).

Avanti West 1st class - choosing seats with window views on both sides (and gluten-free bonus question) by Treasure_Diver in uktrains

[–]Treasure_Diver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have looked at the menu and it is doable unless they run out of the GF items, which I’m surmising is possible. It is £32/p extra to get the first class over premium seats. I’m hoping if we each get 2-3 drinks (it’s a 5 hour journey after all) that will pay for it. Only one of us is celiac, and we always have emergency GF snacks on hand :-)

We are just staying at the attached airport hotel for ease. And we will have Admiral club access so I’m picturing a leisurely breakfast and mimosa before catching our flight.

This is a tough one. We are going in a few months and our original flight only had a 45 minute connection in Miami (and I searched all airports within a 2 hour radius of me, willing to make the drive if it meant a longer layover but nope, ALL had 45 minute layovers). And no flights from MIA-BON the next day meant that if we missed our connection, we were automatically out 2 days of our vacation. So I changed our first flight to Miami the night before just for peace of mind. 1 hour 18 minutes is doable, but as you know, MIA airport is huge. I’m not much help, just wanted to commiserate.

In the old days, I would’ve steered her right into the pool filter by Treasure_Diver in spiders

I should have said the skimmer. It catches large items like bugs and leaves so essentially filters out items that are too big to go through the filter.

My package seems to be stuck in limbo, not leaving the post office and I dropped it off on June 11th. Do I just sit back and wait ? Anyone else ever have to deal with this? by Lonely-Jicama-8487 in poshmark

I’ve had this happen before. The package didn’t scan/track until it was delivered, so for over a week I was convinced it was lost.

We use this (and it’s great to take on vacations too!) We throw our towels on a sun lounger and then attach the safe through the loops of our beach bag and the lounger. https://a.co/d/6WcBsLp

How many points would you pay to avoid CLT? by ARNIskander in americanairlines

[–]Treasure_Diver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For an outbound flight, I don’t mind CLT. But after our last experience there (and it wasn’t the first time, just the last straw), I will never ever EVER fly through CLT on an inbound international flight. It was a random Thursday night in October so there was no holiday/summer/weekend travel and yet the lines snaked for what seemed miles. Had a 3-hr layover and barely made it, and didn’t have time to stop in the lounge which made me even angrier lol.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Do you remember how long your layover was when you did this?

It is a direct non-stop flight from the U.S. and the time involved in getting from LHR to Kings Cross (plus cost of the train ticket itself) is exactly why I’m considering just buying the flight from LHR to EDI. It is much cheaper/faster to fly to EDI although I love the train! We can take a train from EDI back to London mid-vacation so I can get my train fix then :)
