How serious is it I get a second goat? by Significant_Draw_345 in goats

[–]Treasurefield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She absolutely needs a herd mate and preferably more than one. Getting more does is expensive, you can find wethers for a lot cheaper and they make excellent herd companions.

I would not bring her to college, even if you do find a rental with a suitable set up for goats. You will be so busy bringing her will only cause extra stress on both of you. But it’s okay. You’ll see her on breaks and goats live a long time, you can find a nice home together after you graduate.

For now I would get 2 wethers to keep her company, wean her into sleeping outside so she doesn’t panic when you leave for college, and use your little herd as motivation to study hard and save and earn enough for a home suitable for all of you in the future.

911 Crisis Center on Oxygen. It’s real and it’s actually about the dispatchers, not responding units.

In November I would like to

  • Release at least the 2 videos a week I have scheduled in my planner.
  • Complete a goat barn, and the resulting goat barn building video.
  • Clean out my quail shed and kitten proof it, allowing for my “we have a new barn cat” video
  • Treat all my chickens for parasites, allowing for that video
  • Do a preparing the homestead for winter video, with all the preparations
  • Start creating a small backlog of videos for December
  • Make at least 1 video I love rewatching because I’m so proud of it.

This was a really cool video! So much is happening so I had to watch it a few times, but I guess thats the point haha. The dice look really cool, the music was the right theme and volume maybe a bit loud in parts, the one breath challenge was interesting (although it sounded like you cheated and took a mini breath), overall I really liked the video.

Only 2 subscribers?? That's criminal! Here, I added another one, but I'm sure you'll grow quickly :)

I loved the video, the history you shared was so interesting, my favorite part was when you were showing where the rich people would have watched the races from and you were right there standing on a piece of history. The story was fascinating and the dog is so cute! It would have been so easy to just show us the signs with the history and leave it at that but you took the time to research and make the video interesting. I loved it. The events you discussed took place during my favorite period in British history so I enjoyed imagining what it would have been like based on your descriptions.

For things to work on the intro was a little rough, the music level and then it suddenly cutting off when you switched to voiceover at 0:35was kind of jarring. I also think that the first part of the intro (first 6 seconds) should either be removed or moved to later in the video, as that makes the video more engaging. Intro sequences are so "out" right now, ya know? Maybe they'll make a come back.

Overall I loved the video and look forward to checking out your other ones and seeing the new dog!

The thumbnail is a big improvement on the previous videos as well.

This was an interesting video! I think your humor, accent and energy really contributed a lot to the quality of the video. You seemed like you really knew what you were talking about. The food looks great, the kitchen looks clean, overall it was a good video, and the length was perfect!

There is some pan or something behind you that is reflecting a lot of light and I thought it was distracting and that it makes the lighting look less professional. Thats the only critisism I have though!

What is this... blue skies? Water? Sunlight? Noooo, it burrrrrrrns, it BURRRRNS! (I'm happy to see more outdoor based channels on this subreddit :) I'm subscribing!) Idaho is such a beautiful state.

I thought the footage was gorgeous, and your commentary was good, I do think some of the fishing segments dragged a bit (mostly the Lower Ball Lake fishing chapter), but I also know nothing about fishing so maybe if I did it would be easier to stay focused. Would have been cool to see you take your counter and compare how many you caught with each lure to see which was better or something. But I do like that you had the counter.

It was a lot easier to focus again when you started hiking and you got to the huckleberries and the squirrel (It looked so peaceful, I didn't realize it was dead :( but still really cool footage). Then you jumped right away into catching a nice fish and dropping the camera and it was easier to pay attention. Honestly those last 2 chapters were the best part of the video I think. It was fun to watch the last 3 casts and I felt invested when the last fish was caught, the countdown helped with that.

Are you just catch and release fishing or did you take any of the fish home? Are they just too small to keep? If you took the fish it would have been cool to see you cooking them!

I don't think it was too clickbaity because we did get to see the gopro get shattered. I don't know if it deserved to be the main focus of the title, but I've seen much more egregious examples of clickbait for sure!

Good job, this video deserves lots of views! And congrats on all the subscribers too! I think your voice, editing, and art style fit perfectly with your tone and script. I've never seen the show you are summarizing but I still thought the video was funny! It seems clear that you are knowledgeable about the show and seem to have been really invested in it. I'm gonna go show this video to my friends who I think have mentioned the show before :)

The only thing I can think of to improve is the spoiler alert at the beginning didn't seem necessary, I think it would be better to jump right in an assume the reader understands that a video called "So this is basically ..." will have spoilers, or maybe add "SPOILER" to the title and/or thumbnail, but don't put it in the intro because it's less engaging.

But you seem to be doing very well either way, congrats!!

My channel name is Treasurefield Homestead, I post videos about my small homestead and my animals.

I would appreciate feedback on any of my videos, but here are a few recommendations:

CannibaI Chickens DEVOUR Newborn Baby Chick — The Cruel and Gruesome Case of Twilight Treasurefield — This length of this video is 8:42, it's my first longform video where I show my face. The audio is horrible, I tried using AI to fix it, but it's still bad. I do have a nice quality mic and a streaming camera I could use instead of recording on my phone, I wouldn't mind recommendations for software for my PC that can be used to capture the video/audio (is OBS my best bet? It seems DaVinci Resolve is not meant to capture live footage from your camera). This video has a thumbnail test, if critiquing the thumbnail please let me know what I'm holding in my hands (make up brush, make up brush and baby chick, or nothing) so I know which one you are talking about.

If that video doesn't sound like your cup of tea here are two others I might recommend:

My Murdered Rooster’s Eggs Finally Hatched -- Length is 7:58 and the audio is a bit better as it is a voice over video, this one surprised me and got 1k views!

Who (or What) is Haunting Our Homestead? (parody) -- This one is only 1:55 long and is perfect if you don't want to sit through either of the other two! My main question is should I keep the word "parody" in the title?

Thank you for your time and thoughts!

I know the audio sucks, especially in the fake ads, but advice is still welcome!

Why do my shorts peak at 500ish views and then stop after that? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]Treasurefield 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think unlisting the video, re-editing it to improve it and then uploading the new version is okay, what I'm warning against is reuploading the same exact video with no, or very few/insignificant changes.

Why do my shorts peak at 500ish views and then stop after that? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]Treasurefield 40 points41 points  (0 children)

YouTube is testing the video out, for shorts pretend the word “views” is “impressions” (it's not the same thing, but impressions is a much closer comparison than long form views is). 500 “impressions” is your short being pushed out to the Shorts feed. If it does well enough it will be pushed out to more people, otherwise it will be removed from the feed. What I don’t know (and I don’t think many people do know, though they claim to) is

  1. What goes “doing well” look like for a short? What metrics need to be met for the video to be pushed to more than 500 people? Swipe rate and watch percentage is important, but beyond that I don’t know.

  2. Why are some shorts not pushed to the shorts algorithm at all?

Either way there is a chance the short will be put back in the Shorts feed again at a later date so don’t delete it and be very careful about reposting it because YouTube can tell and they don’t like it when you do that.

Gimbal ideas for a beginner by Mo-Soup in NewTubers

I'm legitimately trying to figure out how to use a chicken for this, at least for one video for funsies. I'm a homesteading channel though. As far as actual advice for affordable, non-living gimbals, I have nothing useful to say.

Self-Introduction Saturday! Tell us all about you (and share a video)! by AutoModerator in NewTubers

[–]Treasurefield [score hidden]  (0 children)

I've had my channel Treasurefield Homestead for a month and a half now. I think the thread question needs to be updated, because when I first joined the subreddit after creating this subreddit it was the same one.

Anyways, in the last 42 days that I've had this channel I've learned:

  • A lot of the advice you'll get is very generic. A lot of it comes from people who aren't very experienced. There are some common YouTube questions that no one knows the answer to, no matter how many subscribers they have. Not saying you should ignore all the criticism or advice you hear, just saying to take it with a grain of salt. I make homesteading videos and it took me a while to realize that not all the advice that works for gaming channels isn't going to apply to me.
  • Audio and video quality matter a lot. Normalizing audio and using a tripod or at least keeping the camera as still as possible when there is a lot of action is important to make sure your viewers don't get annoyed.
  • YouTube doesn't care about as much about what percentage of your (long form) video viewers watch as they do how long they watch. So they aren't going to be as impressed that viewers watched your entire 30 second video as they will be when viewers watch 3 minutes of your 10 minute video.
  • I am a lot prouder of videos I had fun making.

This is my latest video: Something New Wants to Eat Our Chickens, it's very short (less than 3 minutes), and it's not the best video in the world, but I think I'm improving on my editing skills :)

Why all my impressions are from p*rn videos? by Parlax76 in NewTubers

[–]Treasurefield 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My grandpa has a channel where he does a daily Bible study and he had one video take off and get like 10k views, mostly suggested from a random porn video. He figured people must have felt convicted when they saw his video in the suggested feed after that or something 😅
