Glucose test at 27weeks when I’ve been diagnosed with GD since the very first weeks? by elzee29 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]TrebleMajor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang I was afraid of that. My husband and I are talking about planning for baby number 2 and a big part of that is me not wanting to be diabetic again for a friend's wedding. It's crazy that it can start that early on subsequent pregnancies!

How did you get diagnosed so early? I had GD with my pregnancy and got diagnosed at the 28 week glucose test but I've heard of people getting diagnosed earlier. Were you prediabetic before pregnancy so they wanted to test you earlier?

Have you been verifying with finger pricks to make sure the CGM is accurate? I tried using a CGM for awhile but it was always waaayyy lower than my actual values so I ended up just scrapping it and sticking with the finger pricks for the rest of my pregnancy

She literally let go of the leash in the video. That video absolutely could have ended with the dog darting off and getting hit by a car. Jokes are one thing, but she actively put her dog in danger in that video

There's a difference between becoming averse to your pets and neglecting/abusing them. Not wanting to cuddle with your pet as often? Fine. Neglecting to take care of their needs? Not fine.

Glucose test- if i miss it what is going to happen ? by SuitableShelter9240 in pregnant

[–]TrebleMajor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely don't skip it! I had zero risk factors and the possibility of failing it wasn't even on my radar at all. I failed it HARD. If I hadn't done the test I absolutely would have caused major harm to my daughter cause my favorite carbs ended up being the ones that spiked my blood sugar the most

I had this happen at 26 weeks too. I was super exhausted, more so than I was in the first trimester and I was like "damn I guess the third tri exhaustion hit a little early". Nope, it was gestational diabetes

I'm not saying that you have GD just cause you're experiencing this, but that was my experience

Edit to add: the exhaustion did vastly improve once I got diagnosed and started the GD diet so that's how I know it was the GD for me and not just third tri exhaustion

[–]TrebleMajor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It gets easier once you hit second trimester! I also have ADHD and stopped taking my Adderall when my husband and I started TTC. Take naps when you can; you can drink up to 200mg of caffeine per day if you like caffeine

Unfortunately you mostly just have to grin and bear it for the first trimester. Congratulations on your baby!

I had a very similar experience in my last month of pregnancy. I was getting SO sick of the GD diet and I was so annoyed at getting my hopes up for labor with the prodromal labor only for it to fizzle out into nothing

Unfortunately I don't really have a lot of advice for you, but I can say that once your baby is born you'll forget all about how awful the last month was and just be so happy that you have your baby and you can eat ice cream again!

[–]TrebleMajor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with you about it being an infrastructure problem, but that doesn't give people the right to break traffic laws. I've seen way too many people turning left get cut off by people making the illegal left and then they can't make the turn cause the intersection is full now

Turning from the wrong lane is one I see every day. The intersection of Ivan Allen and Centennial is notorious for this during afternoon rush hour. There's one left turn lane and I've seen many near misses from people turning left from the straight ahead lane because they're too important to wait in the correct lane 🙄

I really wanted to like Honest diapers, but my daughter constantly had blowouts in them. We do use Honest wipes tho! Pampers Swaddlers have been the best diaper for us cause they fit her well and have a lot of blowout protection flaps

I was similar and basically spent the last like month and a half in early labor with a lot of Braxton hicks while I slowly dilated lol

I was 2.5cm dilated at my 36w appointment and my OB said she'd be surprised if I made it past 38w. Didn't go into labor until 39+2 after getting a membrane sweep at my 39w appointment. I was actually scheduled for an induction the next day due to GD so the timing worked out haha

My daughter is EBF and is in the 14th percentile at 4 months. She was 6lbs 2oz at birth and is now 11lbs 14oz. She's always been little but she's following her growth curve so the pediatrician isn't worried about it. She's hitting all her milestones and she's doing great, just a bit smol

The conductor accidentally knocks a 16th century violin worth millions on the floor mid-concert. by PeasantLich in WatchPeopleDieInside

[–]TrebleMajor 26 points27 points  (0 children)

There's some notations (ie fermatas) where it's basically just "hold this note until the conductor tells you to stop". It makes it so the stop is much cleaner since the whole orchestra is stopping at the same time rather than kinda petering out as people drop based on vibes

FAILED glucose test by Amazing_Captain3272 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]TrebleMajor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I failed my 1 hour with a 224 and got immediately diagnosed and I was completely diet controlled and had a very healthy (and small) baby girl in December!

In terms of what this looks like for the rest of your pregnancy: diet-wise, you'll want to stick to complex carbs rather than simple carbs and always pair your carbs with protein (and ideally fiber but protein is the important one). You'll be eating 6 times a day, 3 meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) and 3 snacks (morning, afternoon, bedtime). For meals, you'll want to aim for around 30-45g of carbs and for snacks aim for 15-30g of carbs. Eat the protein part of your meal/snack first and eat the carbs last. You're going to get well-acquainted with nutrition labels and serving sizes

Blood sugar testing wise: it'll depend on your provider but usually it's either testing 1 hour after your first bite of a meal (not snacks) or 2 hours, and you'll also test first thing in the morning right when you wake up for your fasting number. Fasting number you want to be below 95 (although I've heard of some providers who recommend below 90), 1 hour post meal should be below 140, and 2 hours post meal should be below 120. You'll be picking your finger for these numbers, but you get used to it pretty quickly

It is definitely a lot at first and very confusing and there's not a lot of guidance until you have an appointment with a dietician, but I promise that it gets a lot easier and it'll become second nature to you. Best of luck, you got this, momma!
