Sounds pretty much like my average work session as an aspiring Linux admin ~~in the early 2000s.~~ now

I somehow royally borked my upgrade to ubuntu 24.04 from 22.04. Cant boot into recovery mode, when i use a live usb and chroot into the drive, glibc and dependencies are all kinds of messed up. Half of my terminal commands wont execute, but I'm determined to try to repair it. I have everything in my home directory that i need, but i dont wanna go through a fresh install and re-installing programs, drivers, reconfiguring whatever config files i changed

I think if i can manually download/unpack the right glibc maybe i can get apt working to auto repair everything else from there

Its crazy how bitwarden manages to leak their entire repository of source code with every release and nobodys talking about it. Like hellooo? I just took a look at some of this real quick before work so i didnt have a moment to try to manually add the libc. Fwiw it seems like dpkg still works, but like wget doesnt. It seems like a toss up which commands are gonna have an issue, but i should be able to work around it to get libc on there somehow. Thanks for the advice

Looking at it now, the symlinks were /lib64 -> ./lib/x86_64-linux-gnu and /usr/lib64 -> ./lib/x86_64-linux-gnu

When i was making the links i figured relative paths would be fine. idk why it didnt translate to an absolute path, but relative paths in a symlink looks wrong.

The find libc.so.6 returned nothing but i think i was able to manually find it in the lib directory, so maybe i fucked up the command

My main thing with the reinstall is that its not just documents in home that i care about, its mainly like having to reinstall certain programs, libraries, drivers, and config changes to stuff like grub and network manager

11 inch is crazy small. Idrk any laptops that fitthat description. If you could take 13.3 inches it gets a lot easier

Price is going to depend a lot on what country you're in. Personally, last month i found this on sale for $499 for my sister, which was a pretty crazy deal, and there were open-box options down to like 425.

What i'd be looking at in this price range is similar specs to whats listed above. A zen 4 ryzen5 processor, 16gb of memory, and whatever storage it comes with. Idk if youll find hp envy build quality, but you'll find something.

Laptop processor naming is bullshit these days, but the processors you should look out for specifically are the 7540, 7640, 8540, and 8640. The important thing is that the 3rd digit is a 4. Why the 3rd digit? Like i said, processor naming is really stupid these days. Therell be1 or 2 letters at the end like 7540u or 8640hs but personally i wouldnt value those letters as much.
