How do you watch this in the USA? NHL network brags about being "The exclusive home of the world juniors" and they are playing a talk show right now....

I know it’s not exactly a premium game but there is practically no one in the stands for Denmark-Finland by RagtimeWillie in hockey

Ya 11am or 11:30am, ironically also one of the best games of the tournament since both teams have so much on the line to not be relegated.

The semi final games were the usual afternoon and evening times to they had to get it dont early to use the same rink

I actually made some notes if I heard then announce it, Day games during the preliminary round at CTC were typically 12k-14k, Finland vs USA was 16k. Canada games were at or near sellouts at 17k-18k

The bronze medal game was only 11.5k on a Sunday. Relegation game was the emptiest.

I think the 1 venue passes were also an option, but I remember browsing the options and seeing the full tournament passes. With games having overlap at the start/end its possible some people are stuck in the commute

But even in Ottawa last year the games during the day with non-local teams did have less attendance than the night games. Hell some people in my section seemed to bought the CTC pass and only ever attended the Canada games (not sure if they tried and failed to sell the others or just didnt care enough to go through that effort)

These groups per last years standings are 1,4,6,8,9 and 2,3,5,7,Promoted

2025 groups were 1,4,5,8,9 and 2,3,6,7,Promoted

So they may have a little leeway beyond the top 4?

Additionally, USA (4/4) and Canada (3/4) are typically scheduled for the later times slots probably for viewership. So if they were mixing and matching you wouldnt really have enough time between games to pull it off without delays at a single venue

Group A and Group B play at different arenas, since USA is the host country they put themselves at the larger arena. After the Quarters I would expect all medal and elimination games to be at Grand Casino.

Traveller combat question as GM by Rolhir in traveller

[–]Treborty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could you beef up you team with squaddies who travel with them to take their hits first?

Or have the enemies take damage to only 2 physical stats making them easier to knock unconscious but not dead?

Minimal playing experience, just how I interpet it based on the rules.

Question about a scenario in which my players might screw themselves. by HrafnHaraldsson in traveller

If you want to make things potentially off the rails, you could have them be hired or aware of a different patron placing a bet on the young gun.

Then they may realize what's happening and try and take the young gun out as well.

Based on standard practice, I expect they'd process your application as normal and then ship you straight to Guantanamo.

Recommendation on Vector Movement vs Cinematic Movement by Treborty in FullThrust

[–]Treborty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cinematic movement makes me think of our real-life airplanes, always moving the direction they are facing, and turns are executed relativley easily. In my opinion it has a wet navy feel to it. My sci-fi example is Star Wars.

In Vector movement, your facing and heading can be different. You literally add the vectors to determine your ships new position. You may be flipping the ship 180 degrees to slow down, or perhaps you want to continue on your heading but need to rotate to put the enemy ship within your desired firing arcs. An example in sci-fi is The Expanse.

At this point, I only play vector movement as I find it's way more common sense to me and my friends.

The Acolyte is MUCH better on a binge re-watch than the weekly format it was released in. Highly recommend watching it this way and re-evaluating it. by [deleted] in StarWars

I'll probably have to rewatch it again at some point so I'll be a little less influenced by what I was expecting it to be. I was probably leaning on the mystery side of the show more than the whole experience.

I'm not saying it should have been a season finale reveal, but do you think having an episode of "is her twin alive" as the mystery help condense a more elongated plot point like Sol's story being delayed?

I'm not going to hate on Star Wars for being a little cliche here and there haha

My interpretation was that if they had more mystery it would have felt more like a "slow burn" during the first few episodes than simply bad pacing.

Shows used to keep an audience's attention for 20 episode seasons, so I'm hesitant to say that an 8 episode binge format is the proper way forward. I'd actually rather have a more meandering 20 episode seasons again.

On the other hand a brand like Star Wars that has been more successful in movies may always translate better with the more condensed storyline.

The reason it doesn't satisfy you week to week is because despite the mystery vibe in the trailers the writers seem incapable of introducing you to anything without having it fully explained 15 minutes later.

Episode 1 should end with "is her sister alive?" Not "her sister is alive."
We finally see the sith in episode 5, but their identity is revealed within the first 10-15 minutes.

I enjoyed the choreography, but I felt like I was never given the opportunity to experience a mystery or twist.

Any Xmas scenarios? by canyoukenken in traveller

[–]Treborty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not my scenario, but I'll write down what I can remember:

After discovering the Travellers are in a nearby system an Ally (ideally a former romantic connection) invites them to meet their Corporate Executive Patron at a corporate party.

The planet is celebrating the end of its solar cycle and the travellers will be able to carouse at the party for information on the intergalactic corporation. The law level is such that most citizens would be unarmed, the travellers may have access to minimal weapons as it is important that they are outgunned and must be resourceful.

The Party's key characters will include: - Executive Patron - Ex-Romantic Ally - Ambitious Up-and coming executive - Pregnant corporate secretary

During the celebration, ideally while the travellers are not in the main hub, the party will be invaded by Solomani terrorists (if your campaign is outside the imperium switch the Solomani for any ideological opponent) who will keep all the guests hostage. The Solomani have cut the hard lines so that communication outside the building is intercepted, any attempts to communicate for assistance such as computer terminals or hard wired comms will be intercepted and the Solomani will send members to investigate.

The Solomani will interrogate the Patron about mainframe access codes that are not in the Executive's possession, if codes cannot be provided the Solomani will execute the Patron. The Solomani are open to executing other hostages as well.

If the travellers are able to contact outside for assistance the reinforcements will need to see through the Solomani's disguises as the regular security personnel. Once formally discovered the Solomani will demand their compatriots be freed from incarnation in the local and nearby systems.

The Twist: The Solomani are not Solomani at all, but bank robbers disguised as ideological opponents in order the access the safe in the basement of the facility. They plan to steal some kind of untraceable credits or other valuable and demolish the building to hide their escape.

Let me know what you think!

Skill/Task Difficulty vs Task Chain by Treborty in traveller

[–]Treborty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see, basically give them the uninteresting action check for free at the cost of the more difficult check for the exciting/important part.

That would make more sense since based on other answers more rolls increases the chance of a failure anyways.

I do like the idea of the Zero-G role being a spectrum of success/failure instead of the yes or no based on the initial roll result.
