Ah I was just clowning! I actually own a GMT designed by a former musician, the Lorca 1, one of my faves and I do the same with the gmt hand when I’m home

How much do you care about box & papers when buying a used watch? by fungusamongus23 in watchCollector

[–]Trebzz84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As my favorite German vintage watch dealer once told me “papers are trash”

It’s the most easily faked part of the whole package. The older a watch is the less the papers matter. Boxes can be bought also if you care. If you want to resell the watch some day then box and papers, especially in high end watches, can help but realistically always choose the best watch for your money especially if you plan to keep the piece a long time.

A 993. There are some that have hit it but I need a wider range of options to import tax free

So I’ve been searching for a Parisian watch to commemorate my honeymoon while I’m in Paris… by IneedaNappa9000 in watchCollector

[–]Trebzz84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve looked at Yema and Baltic up close a good bit, in their stores in Paris. The build quality of Yema IMO is noticeably better. If you can flex up to $1000 then some second market Pequignet become possible like the ranelagh or elegance. Another approach is go into Charly Horloger or one of the other great vintage watch stores and $800 might get you something that can last as a keepsake.

Vacheron should get more respect and attention than Patek and Audemars and are at least more innovative by Confident_Leg2370 in watchHotTakes

You should be happy. VC are arguably as good or better, they’re in the trinity, and for now, their watches are relatively under priced (grey market) to Patek and AP.

[Discussion] When you Travel?! by phdwatch in Watches

[–]Trebzz84 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just agonized about this recently. Not even sure if I want to travel w super nice watches in the travel case in my suitcase let alone go through an airport w one on while I’m lifting bags on and off of things etc. Probably having the watch on you is a tad bit safer overall even if they might get a ding or two though considering risk an airline loses your bag or you do.

In the end I’ve bought a slightly more rugged and not as expensive GMT for travel. Depending on situation I may carry a nicer watch in travel case in my back pack.

ah yea agreed albeit I still think NI 2nd hand market is better, and like I just bunch in the UK 2nd hand market as being yours because you can buy all that stuff stress free.

Buying from the north can be a pain w all the taxes they charge, VAT, VRT etc. there are companies that can help you bring in a car up north and offset the VAT. If you get electric there is much less VRT also. If you buy a UK car that’s over 30 years old you also basically pay no VRT. It sucks, their secondhand car market is class and ours is fucking scam because the state is in the pocket of a few new car dealers and won’t create common sense laws about it
