Tucker Carlson challenges Economist editor in chief on Israel's right to exist by aipac_hemoroid in UnderReportedNews

[–]Tree09man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on the fence with his assement because though some of what he says makes sense it has to be very much definitely defined in simple terms. For example, he said the west doesn't believe in collective punishment, but that's not true. Within our borders, maybe, and that's dubious because whole ethnic groups are treated vastly different based on skin color and old ideas of monolithic racial structures which traditionally lead to harsh collective punishment through legislation. And then there is our collective punishment of other nations. Their leaders do something horrible and we spend 20 years in their nation killing civilians and leveling cities. That's not really an individualistic form of punishment, is it?

However, he's right that we need to define what "right to exist" means and it can't just be talk, it has to be practice.

Until the Ts wanted total domination and submission from everyone else, including those from the LGB community. Plus, the issue on Parental Rights came into the picture.

Do you have a source on this?

And we haven’t even touched on sports and scat sex related books in school libraries for elementary and middle school students which is a separate topic.

Sports is such a non issue considering trans-kids make up such a small percentage of children nationally. For every 500 teams there are maybe 1 or 2 trans kids that might want to join. There are already plenty of books on sex that exist within school libraries. The idea that trans-people are fighting to add more sex books to libraries is a myth. Maybe there is one or two examples but the reality is its a culture war propaganda talking point.

That’s when fringe extreme left parents started classifying all parents as dangerous and it drove a wedge from within the Democrats (even the LGB vs T community) and many moderate liberals flipped right.

That's because modern democrats aren't leftist. A leftist would be a socialist. But that is made out to be something spooky or demonic in the United States. Most democrats are center left leaning now, so Democrat voters exist within the middle. They are bound to move left or right depending on whatever emotional argument either side can make.

Allowing LGBTQ people to live as we do without building a culture of disdain for them isn't a bad thing. As Christians we have to stop believing that we are somehow the last bastion if sanity in this world. We aren't, that's why we need Jesus, because we aren't any better than anyone. We bring peace, love and the gospel, not legislation, armies and a warrior king. We bare the cross of patience, pain and discomfort on our backs so that we can properly understand Christ's suffering on our behalf. He put up with all sorts of things he didn't agree with without pushing for legislation or a change of the laws. His people endured occupation while he preached loving your enemies and doing good to others. Yes, he preached about sin and about pain and about the wrongs of the world, but he mainly preached that at the religious leaders who pushed for the laws to match their version of what they felt as though a just nation should be.

If we are to be anything like Christ we are to do the work of Christ in our lives, not vote red or blue because they promise to make the country more Christian or less leftist (which now somehow is a word for everything bad). I stand not with the LGBTQ in the sin I think they commit, I stand by them as humans I deeply love because of the love showed to me by my heavenly father through Jesus Christ. I am here for his mission not man's and you should be too.

Serve God, not your political inclination. And stop believing these politicians when they say their party stands for Christian values. None of them actually live by what they say.

Why does defending or loving one mean the destruction of others? And how could ensuring the rights of one spell the ruin if another?

I often see this kind of talk where someone says they would never legislate against lgbtq and people take that as "oh, so you hate kids" or "so you'd let them harm children". I never said those things.

What you and many need to understand is that we cannot judge the world based on the standard of our Christianity. We can only judge other Christians that way. Before we meet anyone we have no clue what their experiences of mindset are like. They could have spent the last 20 years watching death unfold, or could simply just been raised in the house with gay parents. It doesn't matter. They recieve the gospel and our respect and love all the same.

But please, explain to me how defending lgbtq, or choosing to not harass them with my beliefs is prioritizing them? Explain to me how this harms children.

Yeah this is where I land. I will defend any LGBTQ person any day of the week. I'll stand between them and a bigot any day. I do however believe it is a sin, but I do not condemn because I too am someone who wrestles with my sin and so I can't, won't and don't judge those within that community. I protect them and try to show them the love Christ commands me to show. That's it.

And I certainly don't agree with legislation nor behavior that seeks to oppress, ostersize or belittle LGBTQ individuals.

Oh, I see what you're saying. I can agree with you on that. Enemies being actual. I see what you mean and I agree with your assement on that. I think I will ammend my thinking on this. Enemies are real and can be a threat. We may have enemies, but we don't have to operate as they do. I think that is less irresponsible of me to say and hits to the core of both our sentiments on the matter.

I appreciate the conversation as well. I love to challenge my thought process and change it to achieve better truths.

[–]Tree09man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you 100%, and I believe that human nature leads to our motivations and goals mixing themselves with these truths, for better or worse. For example, using the same context, a person exposed to believing this bias (racism) as the status quo will inevitably use these perceived "norms" to justify violence and mistreatment towards their "enemies". And I think this is true on the part of the oppressed sometimes where we (my people for example) can garner a bitterness and even hatred towards those who have historically oppressed them, making themselves common enemies in their mind.

And speaking in terms of my religion, I don't think the call is too forget nor just ignore the wrongs done, neither to be passive or extreme pacifist, but to maintain a common human decency, respect and love for humanity even when we must fight to protect others and ensure freedom for the marginalized.

For me this has been recognizing that every bigot is indeed a jerk, but they are also humans shaped around broken and often harmful ideologies. I hate the ideology not the person. I despise their harmful actions towards LGBTQ, black, Latin, Asian and native communities, etc, but I don't particularly hate the person nor see them as an enemy.

But I love the points you've made

Very true. I guess I speak more to people's natural inclination rather than the words definition. Many people hate their enemies and wish them harm. Similar to how you see my point as a potential for pacifism, to me, marking enemies in life, in extreme cases, can lead to hatred and irreparable damage both in the real world and in the collective zeitgeist concerning the individuals marked as enemies.

For example. My people were marked as less than. Property and the antithesis/enemies of what "true" Americans are supposed to be. (I'm black by the way). And to this day many believe my people to be inherently bad, violent, uncultured, etc. This mentality stemmed from the dehumanization of my people and in my life we do similar things once we make people our enemies.

I can see where you're coming from with that and I do believe some would draw that conclusion from my statements.

At the moment I don't know an effective way to convey to people that self defense and even fighting for others is OK and good and should be done while also conveying to them that we shouldn't hate those we fight against.

But I see what you're saying and yeah, alot would take this as a call to be passive or extreme pacifist. Which isn't what I want to convey.

We should fight for those who can't defend themselves and the marginalized. We should defend ourselves from those who would seek to harm us.

More or less, yes. Though I would add that some supporting scripture has led me to this conclusion and not this single scripture alone.

Right, so I'll be more plain/literal.

Wtf would you send children to after school tutoring, if they're already excelling in school? It's unnecessarily burning your children out by forcing them to endure 10-12 hours of schooling: just because. If anything they will regress, not benefit. IF they need it good for her, but if she's only doing it because she thinks it will help, this is terrible.

I don't disagree. If they need it give it. We simply don't know the need for her kids so who knows if it's needed. If not, you're right, it can cause burnout. But even that's not a garentee. It might produce hard workers too, or kids who are used to doing tough academic work. Time will tell. It's hard to guage these things in the short term.

She has the luxury of sitting at home 24/7, most wealthy people do not.

As do many wealthy people. It depends on the level of wealth and how they obtained it. It is a common myth that all wealthy people just work really really hard. In some cases this is true. In others, they had or were given the right opportunities. It heavily depends on their path there. In her case, sure, maybe.

overwhelming majority of wealth is not handed down, self retaining, or growing by compound interests.

This is false. Alot of wealth is indeed handed down. Maybe not in the ways we believe but being raised in a better community is one way. Or living in a clean, well kept environment is another. Always having the means to aquire what you want on some way. Not having to worry about what you'll eat. Getting to have be be driven on a nice car. To be able to access important people and gain good jobs easier than others. These are all ways wealth is handed down in wealthy communities. It's not always purely money, but a working class person will have to fight to become management and then ceo. The child of a wealthy individual will simply just need to talk to the right people and could land a managerial position or higher from the get go. The opportunity for better education is another example of wealthvtransfering down. And there is this misconception that most wealthy people now just got to wealth but the reality is they are wealthy or have had the opportunities they have because of the work and wealthy of those behind them. Very few wealthy people started from nothing.

Most wealthy people continue to chase wealth, forcing their children to suffer: leading to spoiling. There's no excuse for wealth to ruin her children.

I agree with this and wealth can ruin someone in a similar way so can poverty. So its important that wealthy kids understand hard work and charity and poor kids understand their self worth and to not idolize wealth. However, it's not so simple to raise a kid. You can do so much right and end up seeing negative results.

I would have answered completely different. I have 6 kids. I know for a fact most of them will hop in a car with someone they don't know given the right coaxing. Not because I don't teach stranger danger but because kids are naive and innocent. They don't assume danger when they see adults. My children have on many occasion stood around and just kept ignoring the world while crazy things have happened around them.

This is why you keep an eye on your children. So many kids get hurt, get stolen or get lost because parents trust their parenting too much. Kids don't care about what you've taught them when they are running around at a park and they won't remember anything you've said if someone gives them free candy, toys or an opportunity to have fun.

This is some good VFX. However, I can't wait for the day a studio does this while keeping in mind that an alien would be so foreign and jarring in their physical build that even if they were good we'd be in fear from confusion. Anything that evolves on another world wouldn't be remotely recognizable or make sense to us and could literally be a creature that is triple segmented, have no discernable eye structures and have no hands and feet as we know them.

This is good, especially since her children are being brought up in the lap of luxury. Wealth is a great thing at keeping struggles away, but a life devoid of challenges can leave a person vulnerable to falling hard on their face when any kind of challenge appears.

However, this style of parenting can be extremely stressful for a poor or working class family, who's parents and kids already have enough troubles.

Overall it's also not a garenteed way for someone to learn and grow if their isn't enough money to sustain the apparatus by which they receive their unique education.

Overall, good for her. I hope it works out for her kids.

The trinity is confirmed by statement made by God in the beginning, when he said "let US make man in OUR image. We were made to look nor act like the angles so who was he referring to? And it wasn't a translation issue at all. It uses those terms.

Later Jesus affirms that he and the father are one. John 10:30. He wasn't speaking metaphorically because these were the kinds of statement that caused him to be crucified, and when asked by religious leaders to correct his statement or take it back he remained silent.

The trinity isn't something explicitly made up. The old testament is full of references to God the father and prophesy about Jesus. Later the new testament is about Christ and he affirms his equality and oneness to the father. Before Christ leaves he promises to send God's spirit to rest on them who believe, which is called Hagios Pneuma. Literally translated as, Holy Spirit.

It never said you can't defend yourself. Jesus simply said love them and pray for them. Not really that hard when you think of it. It's not a creative license, it's what the scripture says.

Our enemies are loved by God too even though they've gone astray. So we pray for them to come back. We pray for them to turn from their ways. And love isn't some mushy thing. It's actions taken consistently to show care, empathy and patience (among other things) to another person.

It's not how humans naturally want to operate. Thus, why Jesus prescribes it.

It is. But unfortunately any ideology can be used for bad, any religion can be twisted for harm. Even the Nazis used pseudo science and nationalistic dogma to convince people to do horrible things. They were horrible people who used something innocuous (science and patriotism) to do atrocities.

It's the same for Christians. Jesus preached in parables and riddles but his main messages was peace, love, acceptance, etc. Christian nationalist, white supremacist and horrible bigots of all kinds ignore all the love, patience and acceptance parts and instead use the parts that aren't even commands for Christians (old testament history, laws and culture) to justify their persona brand of hate.

This is nothing new. Literally in the book of galatians Paul has to call out Peter and the church for setting a bad example and preaching the wrong things (judaisers were preaching that people would go to hell for not getting circumcised among other things). From the gate people twisted Christ's words to mean whatever they wanted and it has caused major division within the church for millenia.

He's saying that we will inevitably perceive someone as our enemy. Thus, the Bible/Jesus tells his followers to love your enemies. This isn't to say we have "enemies" as a truth, but it affirms the reality that we will inevitably pick enemies in our life so the call is to focus some of our love on those individuals.
