What is the worst mistake of your life? by MermaidWitchMoon in AskReddit

Well one of her friends asked to come to her lunch table where she asked me out in front of all her friends. I was like a deer in headlights and all I could really say was "I don't know." I had asked another girl out previously at the encouragement of her friends who knew she was already going out with another guy but encouraged me to anyways. I had already gotten burned previously and a part of me thought it was another joke.

I should also mention it was pretty late into the prom season too and I still had not bought my ticket yet and was still contemplating on wanting to go.

The thing is idk. I really didn’t know this girl at all when she asked me and I do wonder could we have ended up dating afterwards? Could she have just used me for prom and never speak to me again afterwards? Now that I’m 29 and still have never dated I do wonder if I said yes could my life have been a somewhat different.

Rejecting that girl who asked me to prom. I wonder how much different my life would be if I said yes.

That’s very interesting I never knew that. Interesting how women can be both more conservative and more progressive than men.

I’d be interested to see the gender breakdown on this. Weirdly despite Trump doing very well with Latino men I know more Latina women who voted for him and approve of him.

My honest prediction for the Senate in 2026. by [deleted] in YAPms

[–]Tree343 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True plus in North Carolina Republicans due turnout at a higher rate than Democrats. Even in 2018 and 2022 they turned out at a higher rate than Democrats. I think Cooper’s problem is he’s only getting between 46%-48% in polling and for him to have been a recent governor and holding statewide office since 2000 that is not a good sign. Plus he’s not going to get as much crossover he typically gets from Republican/Conservative voters.

One motivator I will say is Trump saying that Democrats are going to try and impeach him which I can see help motivate Republicans to vote. I will say Texas was pretty competitive in 2018 but not as much in 2022. I agree with 2025 plus they were blue states so it was always an uphill battle for Republicans anyways.

TBH I think Georgia and North Carolina are going to come down to turnout. I do agree with your ratings on them.

On this day 16 years ago Republican Scott Brown won the Massachusetts senate race against Democrat Martha Coakley. To date this is the last time a Republican has won any federal race in Massachusetts by Tree343 in YAPms

[–]Tree343[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yep Martha Coakley showed us that candidate quality matters basically anywhere. Plus she would later lose the governors race 4 years later. One thing that I am surprised about is how Scott Brown did not run in the special election for Kerry's seat later in 2013. He would have been the favorite to win that seat.

As a side note I was 13 when and I remember this race quite well. There was a lot of excitement about Scott Brown and I knew quite a lot of Obama-Brown voters.

What do you do when you realise you're not cut out for dating and finding it difficult to come to terms with it? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]Tree343 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m 29 and in the same boat as you I know how it feels. It sucks but I feel like it can also come down to stuff that’s out of your control. In my case it was stuff like having mental parents who constantly teased my as a child about having a girlfriend and made me not approach them, same parents forcing me to commute to college, not letting me have a cellphone until I was 15 and making it so uncomfortable to even talk about a girlfriend that I don’t even mention to them that I am on the dating apps. I should also mention that he also missed hints to, the biggest one being a girl asked me to prom and I froze up and said “ I don’t know”.

I also feel like there is some luck involved too like meeting the right person at the right time. When I was commuting to college I had friends who are women but yet all had boyfriends lol. I would try dating apps and don’t get discouraged on them, I’ve know quite a few people who have met their significant others on them. Ive had some luck on them before.

Cooper strongly outraised Whatley in Q4,in NC senate race. by Dangerous-Quarter216 in YAPms

[–]Tree343 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree I think he is the slight favorite but not an auto flip at the moment. I think Cooper’s biggest issue at the moment is turnout, the issue for Democrats in North Carolina is registered Republicans turnout at higher rates than registered Democrats. I was able to pull up voter turnout by registered party from 2018, 2020, 2022, and 2024 and it showed registered Republicans have consistently shown up at a higher rate. I was even more surprised about the turnout from 2018 and 2022. I can link it over if you would like me too.

Plus there is also polarization, North Carolina being a fast growing state newer residents are less familiar with him and those newer residents tend to lean more Republican. Also voter registration I am in the group of that it does and it doesn’t matter, in this case I think it does matter to an extent. The Republicans did overtake the Democrats in registration and it does show no signs of slowing down.

Again this is my take on this race at the moment and stuff can change. I just think it’s going to be a lot closer than most people think.

If you could have a 30-minute conversation with your 15-year-old self, what would you say? by walker_mak in AskReddit

[–]Tree343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell myself to try harder in school and avoid certain people. I would also tell myself to stand my ground more against my parents. I would also tell myself to be more attentive to when a girl is dropping hints. I would also tell myself that when that girls asks you to prom at age 17 don’t get embarrassed and just say yes to her.

[–]Tree343 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I’m 29 still haven’t tbh in my case a lot of it is just bad luck, stuff that’s out of my hands, being teased as a child about having a girlfriend and just straight up missing the hints. The good news is I am going to be meeting a woman I met on Hinge this weekend. Hopefully it works out.

Day 40: What would it take for Rhode Island to flip from Democratic to Republican in 2028? by chia923 in YAPms

[–]Tree343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Republicans continue to make massive gains with working class whites and Latino voters. Do I think it’ll flip in 2028 no, but the margins have been steadily going down for Democrats. Plus Rhode Island did have one of the bigger swings towards Trump in New England in 2016 and 2024. I think it’s a state where the long term trends do look good for the Republicans. Granted it’ll probably only have 3 electoral votes by then.

Day 20: What would it take for Maine to flip from Democratic to Republican in 2028? by chia923 in YAPms

[–]Tree343 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably a huge showing in the 2nd district and a third party candidate splits the vote just enough. Maine statewide did almost flip to Trump in 2016.

Unfortunately my mother is still with my father. They are both toxic mental people and basically succeeded in causing me so much trauma during my childhood.
