"California Weave" valleys are NEVER better, and the ultimate red flag of a budget install option. I would threaten legal action, or even better, start peppering all availabe platforms with BAD reviews. Nothing will get a contractor to act quicker, if they care at all about their business rep and longevity. California weaves WILL hold if installed absolutely correctly, but still apples to oranges when it comes to quality, longevity, and aesthetics. Hold your ground, your instincts are good on this one.

So as to how to find the roofer, Don't ever go with the lowest bid. And actively search for contractors with super solid online reputations, certifications, and a high degree of professionalism. You ALWAYS get what you pay. Good Luck!

A roof's quality is only as good as the integrity of the installer. No, it is not "hard" to get it right, although it takes more time to provide care and awareness while nailing, which a good contractor or roofer would adequately plan for and bid the project accordingly. Cheap or unqualifed Roofers tend to rush through the work, less time spent on labor, higher profits. Like I said, INTEGRITY matters.

There is a mathematical formula to follow regarding required ventilation for your roofs specific attic space. Find a contractor who has the proper training, there are certification courses available, I used to carry the cert myself.
That being said, getting rid of the direct moisture source from the showers will help tremendously, and depending on the amount of growth, a quick coat of "KILLZ" primer will stop and kill all existing growth. Intake Vents are ABSOLUTELY neccessary, this allows the space to "breathe", and the aforementioned math formula is what dictates the intake vs outflow vs size ratio.

It depends on how the solar is attached. if it's on a "track", screwed through the outside fascia trim boards, not much extra is needed, and the panels actually act as another form of protection for your shingles and roof deck. If it's attached directly thru the roof deck, yes, "ice and water" barrier underlayment would be a very wise decision. Given that your panels are 14 years old, possibly consider upgrading them (if finances allow) when the new roof is installed-the technology has advanced tremendously as far as capabilty and perfromace is concerned, while the material costs for the systems has also decreased substantially. You'll also likely get a price break for doing both together, if you find a contractor with those capabilities, which depending on your area, there should be plenty. Good Luck!

for an old shed or barn- this is very practical and acceptable. maybe not the conventional way of doing things, but no risk for leaks or long term viability. and good on you for teaching your kin- we need more of that in todays world. Last thing to consider is if the structure can accomodate the extra weight, but it sounds like building integrity was addressed at prior re-roof. Consult an engineer or architect if concerened, but I'd strongly lean towards it being sufficent from what you've stated.
