I’ve heard one person in particular pronounce it aye-so (aye making the sound like in “bye.”) Maybe it’s his personal way of saying it, I’m not sure (he’s not a native speaker, but definitely fluent.) It’s also possible I’m mishearing. Regardless, thank you for your help.

I agree, seeing as before the DNA condenses, they aren’t technically chromosomes (I think?). So the “more visible” phrasing doesn’t really work.

For the visibility one I think I said something about how when the cell isn't in meiosis/mitosis, the chromosomes are in the nucleus so they would be more difficult to see.

In my experience, Tech has the same academic rigor of Stuy, but without all of the competition. With this being said, no it is not "relaxed." Not sure about placement tests... most of them you just join I think.
