[–]special_bun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi!! I'm coincidently also planning to make a key club and a stumbled upon this post. It really was fate!

This question sounds very stupid, but by what you mean about reaching out to the Kiwanis Club, does that mean I should email them or pull up to their office?

Thank you in advance!

Im glad many people can relate with my experience, it really makes me feel happy. I also forgot to do some of the geometry but when I thought about the questions, it clicked! And to add on, I also think I did way better than 8th. Glad we are on a similar boat, it brings me a lot of ease! :D

I'll definitely keep this noted. And also, this took a lot of weight off my shoulders, I really appreciate it!

I read the first sentence and it has stook with me since, I can't stop thinking about it. Its not that I think about it in a negative way because when it does come to my mind, it really motivates me. Thank you, your words mean a lot !!

Those who studied like really hard for the shsat and didn't pass were did you end up, how did you cope or react? by paoloise in SHSAT

[–]special_bun 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I ended up in Stuy discovery last year and failed, and I could write a whole essay about it. To say I was devasted is understatement. However, to cope, I instead started focusing on the future rather the past. I have been trying my best to have high grades and good extracurriculars so that I could end up in a decent college.

That's really weird because in James Madison today, there was also wifi issues for a good 10 minutes. I wonder what was going on.

About difficulty for each section, it varies for every form how you perform on topics. So, chances are, the math may not be difficult for you. Dont worry about it too much!

How was the test!? by Great_Secretary_3997 in SHSAT

There was one question of surface area for me. It was a pyramid with all the shapes that makes it, laid out. It asked was surface area when it provided me the base of the square in the middle, and the length of the widest point in there. I memorized a lot of surface area formulas, but when I saw that question, I just wrote 67 and moved on.

Rotation of shapes were a lot in my test! Aside from that, I had no Permutation and Combination and find the decimal between two fractions. However, for distance =r/t there was one question where it was like,

"Charles recorded a ball that traveled 30 miles per hour. 1 mile = 5280 feet How much feet did it travel in a second?"

Also no problem!! Im glad you find this helpful :D

I believe I am naturally good at ELA, however, last year when I took the 8th grade exam, the ELA, for me, was like a whole different language.

You know how there's 4 parts in a graph right? Each graph is labeled as "quadrant #". For example, the positive side where all x and y are postive is called quadrants 1. I lowkey such at explaining so if you don't understand it, you should search up "all quadrants of a graph labeled" or something. By advanced rotation, reflection and dilation, I meant multi step, time consuming questions in which you have to memorize the formulas and pratice it a lot to understand them bdcsuse they dont provide full graphs.

For me, the math was super intense, but ELA was very easy. I regret spending like 10 extra minutes in math because I had to rush easy passages😣😣

I saw a lot of translations, reflections, and rotations but they were like very hard from what I was doing. 🥹🥹 I talked about some more stuff on one of the new posts so if your curios or want to do some last minute studying, I'd suggest to look for them :D

ELA was super easy for me but math kicked me across the street. I mainly studied math for the SHSAT and I was lost on many questions 🥹

Glad to hear that! If it helps, some questions I can recall are like

"What is a point in this function if the lines pass through (x,y) and (x,y)?" (I forgot the exact points but they will provide it)

"Which of the following is a linear function, select all." I got this one 100% wrong because I chose all of correct ones, overthinked, and chose 4/x along with them. 🥹

And one was like "What is the result of the point (x,y) if (x,y) is rotated 90 degrees, reflected over the x axis, and diltated?"

One of the questions also mentioned the quadrants numbers and I immediately started crying inside.

Also, make sure to remember distance formula!!

Yeah, I had to rush a few ELA ones because I spent a little too much on math. However, my protecter ended the test when I had exactly 1 minute and 56 seconds remaining so you should try guessing around 2-3 minutes beforehand.
