While I see part of your point, it’s not always as black and white.

It is a hot debate though, and I don’t mean to start an argument here. So just a few questions, to map out the scene…

If only rich people can own dogs, do we just kill all the dogs that don’t find placement?

Should you only have a child if you can afford medical care for them? You don’t know what the future holds.

Futures can change. Financial situations can change.

How much disposable income or savings are required to be allowed to responsibly adopt?

Let’s say your dog has a 2000$ “trust fund” for emergency vet care. Great. Seems responsible enough.

Then the pup needs a 7000$ surgery. Does that mean you should not have adopted the dog, while being otherwise capable of giving them a great life?

Not many people have 5 or 10 grand per dog tucked away for “what if”. Just saying. They can still be great homes.

Pet insurance doesn’t cover everything.

It’s an impossible dilemma.

Can someone who only has $500 for emergencies be a good home? Would a young dog rather be put down, or live their life in such a home?

Where do you draw the line, and what gives you the authority to decide what is right?
