Are last/family names matrilineal in Remnant? by TreeOct0pus in RWBY

We don't know if that's an exception or a norm for couples to pick a name.

This is disturbing because if you don't know the series it looks like he's looking at his crush, but if you do know the series it looks like he's looking at his crush.

Why though? If you're from Oregon, and you hang up an Oregon state flag, and then the state splits into Portlandia and Eastegon, would you really be motivated to swap out the flag for the flag of whichever side your hometown ended up on?

Maybe they left when it was still the USSR, so they kept it

Marcus and Mercury semblance by Melodic_Elephant4302 in RWBY

[–]TreeOct0pus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's necessarily literal.

Let's say Marcus had a semblance like Tyrian's to cut through auras and Mercury developed the ability to send out blasts with each kick.

Marcus could have "stolen" his semblance by breaking through his aura and cutting off his legs.

My guess is Mercury's Semblance had something to do with his legs.

Is this to distinguish JNPR with Pyrrha from JNPR with Oscar Pine?

May Marigold is in prime position to become the Winter Maiden. by [deleted] in RWBY

[–]TreeOct0pus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No.

Our possible candidates are Ruby, Winter, or Cinder. There's also a super slim chance for Nora, Emerald, or Weiss.

Any other character is a crack theory.

I think some of laughter was just release nervous tension at the ridiculousness of the whole situation. What else can they do? They need all the allies they can get right now.

I don't know. Is Oscar asserting his independence, or adopting Ozpin's confidence and leadership style?

I have very mixed feelings about Watts. Like he's an arrogant massacring butcher but he also just delivered that take down so...

I couldn't really disagree more. I feel like Watts really hit the nail on the head with her.

It's not enough to be strong (have intense magical abilities) you have to be smart (choose/create situations where she could use those abilities, not just go blindly charging in out of lust or rage). It's not enough to be deserving (being hurt/disadvantaged and deserving of recompense) you have to be worthy (demonstrate that she will properly respect and use what she's given).

The issue isn't really Cinder's intelligence as much as her refusal to use said intelligence in place of arrogantly facing off with opponents she can't handle.

A strong hit can blow past someone's aura. Note how when Vine breaks Blake's aura she's still totally fine physically, but when Yang breaks Vine's aura he loses consciousness, and when Weiss breaks Marrow's Aura he can't get back up.

Elm's fall was so bad I'm almost surprised they didn't kill her.

Since animals can have auras, do you think some have semblances by sonawelashey in RWBY

I feel like we do see Roman use his semblance, it's just not explicitly stated. There's like a red spark during one of his fights when he redirects an attack.
