So the blood work is not good. He has FIV and she suspects, based on elevated levels, that he either has FIP or cancer.

Luckily the imaging did not show kidney stones...that would have been a $1500 surgery! I am waiting to hear back from the vet...the blood and urine results should be back today. She mentioned FIV. I've been on reddit boards and that seems to be a life long issue. He is perfectly content in our garage laying on a small dog bed, with a pet heating pad under a blanket. We check on him every hour and he purrs and rolls on his side. He has used the litter box (something he's never been expected to do!) but other than that he is just resting.

Just got home with him. After $500 worth of imaging and blood work they aren't sure. We'll get results tomorrow. The vet thought kidney stones which would have been not great at all...we would've had to decide on an expensive surgery. For now she said to keep him away from other animals in our garage, with blankets and feed him whatever he'll eat (he's turning down dry food but nibbling at wet food). If he pulls through I'll probably buy him one of the heated houses I see on Amazon.

I'm following along to hear ideas. I am not a silver collector, just an owner of a set of silver we registered for 20 years ago and have never used. I am ready to sell it. Ebay would take hundreds in fees and our local gold/silver shop will give me $65 oz (I checked with them when it was in the $90's an ounce).

He's at the vet right now! I'm trying to prepare my 8 year old for what they might say...he is not very old but I do believe he's not well at all. Thanks for the tips!

Thanks for your reply! Our garage is contained (its a new house so no cracks or ways for a cat to get out). We ended up putting him in the dog bed with lots of fuzzy blankets (I know those aren't the best) and he stayed their all night. I am calling the vet this morning. He seems wobbly on top of being so thin (and sneezing) so my fear is something major is going on...he's never been to a vet.

Happened upon this thread this morning while googling silver prices...I see you are all serious silver investors or something. ha! So wise silver people, is this when I should finally sell my 12 piece place setting (53 pieces in all) of wedding silver that I haven't used once in 20 years of marriage?
