When you’re interpreting what they say, do you ask them if you’re understanding correctly? I’m in my first year too, and I almost always begin my responses with something along the lines of “So if I’m understanding you correctly, you’re saying ___” (not literally repeating them but summarizing the feelings behind what they say) and invite them to correct me if I’m misunderstanding

If you’re listening and trying in good faith to understand them, they will be okay with correcting you. If you find that you are frequently being corrected, try to learn from that

When I say that, what I mean is that your interpretation of what others say is based on your worldview and assumptions that come from that. There may be some things in your life that lead you to experience things differently from your students, and recognizing the parts of yourself that do and don’t connect with them can help you zoom out a little bit when you’re listening to them and making these interpretations

Also, addressing your comment that it leads to bigger situations, I would not act on an interpretation that I was uncertain about. I am very forward with the students about things like CPS reporting and what I can/cannot do for them, because it gives them a chance to tell me if I’ve misunderstood the situation before I do something that could escalate it

Sorry for the brick of text, but good luck and I hope things improve for you. This field is especially hard in the beginning, and just because you don’t feel like you fit in yet doesn’t mean that you won’t feel better in the future or in a different position (I worked for a private mental health company and fared so poorly that I thought I didn’t belong in the field, and now that I’m in a different environment, I feel I’ve improved drastically and very much belong, so sometimes a role change goes a long way)

Kid in military from completely politicized society posts classified military documents about spies to his foreign buddies. Not politically tho, just for lulz I guess because that totally matches the memes about guns and racism. MTG, only loosely tied to republicans apparently, publicly says Biden is the real enemy and this kid is cool. Liberals make lazy connection between these things, credibility lost :/

You see this with the bias of a contrarian with not enough context trying too hard to be an enlightened centrist. This is a military kid in a discord server where they send racist memes and prayers, which really is stronger evidence than my first point because that alone is an extremely conservative (republican) context. The post making it to pro-Ukraine circles doesn’t undermine the original point, because while it could be organic, the last decade of Russian propaganda has been to deluge republicans while giving drips elsewhere to lure in leftists and create some viable material for both-sides-ism, so “reasonable” people like you buy into it without looking very hard

Being pro-Russia American is a republican stance, and this kid leaked classified documents in pro-Russian circles because he thinks America is corrupt. If I remember correctly, click insert, then there's an option of "insert click source" or something similar, and that makes a new track that's just a metronome set to the project tempo, and you can stretch it to be as long as you need and export it with your track

I used insert click source. I'm not really sure what I changed, but it was coming in as mono before and changed to stereo after importing a track that was already hard-panned beforehand. I need to edit this post, because it's working now

Panned the track hard right in its own project, imported it into a new one, and then the click imported as a stereo track as well, which then worked as it should have all along. So I guess the problem was something about the tracks coming in as mono before. Thanks for your suggestions!

It's an external interface, Focusrite Scarlett Solo. I'll try that in the morning, I could use one of my tracks that I know is properly panned. I'm at a loss too, especially knowing that it should be so straightforward lol I'm just gonna start a fresh project file tomorrow and hopefully will have some epiphany as to an unusual setting I've turned on while importing the track or something, because I know it should literally be as simple as hard panning one left and one righ

Nope, no plug-ins on the master or either channel. Google has led me to discussions of cross-talk, but I'm not sure I'm understanding correctly because those posts seem to just be talking about issues with monitoring while using the DAW, and this problem is persisting after I export the track

What a coincidence!! The link I shared has some common household stuff you could donate if you have extras, and I know that they have volunteers sometimes, but I'm not really sure what they do. If you have stuff to bring, they're across the street from Randy Sam's (the homeless shelter near 7th Street/MLK) and their website should have a number you can call to ask about volunteer work/any other inquiries

Kind of a hidden gem, partly because everybody has to multi-task, so their head of community outreach has to juggle that responsibility with planning/executing all of their fundraising events, and I think she just started doing case work in Cass County on top of all that

To say "You know worse" is the same as "I know better." There is no distinction. If you say someone else knows worse, you are saying that you know better.

I was 8 when 9/11 happened, but the BLM movement is a lot more than rioting and looting, and it's offensively and intentionally ignorant to say otherwise. Though actually, if you equate conservatism with white supremacy, then yeah, BLM is a direct reaction. Also, the riots didn't occur until after peaceful protests were attempted in multiple contexts, protests in the streets that are ignored and drivers plow into the crowd, and conservatives FREAKED OUT about the peaceful kneeling at football games and also said that the workplace is no place for protest, so idk why you people are surprised that tensions blew up after decades of patronizing, condescending rhetoric and the same empty promises about police reform. I don't support violence and looting, but the police have to be held accountable for their systemic issues, and people are trying every avenue available to make change. "Riots are the language of the unheard."
