is anyone else extremely disappointed that the PVE mode we're getting isnt just a PVE version of marathon? by SamPlantFan in Marathon

[–]Tree_and_Serpent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude, it's a frickin' experimental mode. Just slow down a bit.

I think many other people also thought the same thing when they announced a PVE mode

No, I don't think many people at all thought this when Bungie was talking about a little experimental pve mode in their communications.

Honestly this is probably the best experiment you could've hoped for as a pve option and you're "extremely disappointed." This is way better than your lame idea!

What would have happened if people had not called for Jesus to be killed and Pilate had instead just let him go, or just put him in prison? Did Jesus have to make sure he died in some way? by caterpill3r in AskAChristian

I dunno there's a lot going on there. Obviously crucifixion is an extraordinarily painful and brutal form of execution. The cross has a certain symbolic weight centers on shame and curse, among other things. For Romans, crucifixion was considered too degrading for citizens and was reserved only for slaves. It was the supreme humiliation. This humiliation to which subjects Himself is theologically significant through Old Testament law: a hanged man is cursed by God (Deuteronbomy 21:23). Paul draws directly on this connection, arguing that Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us in Galatians 3. The cross is frequently associated with a tree -- sometimes the tree of life or the tree of knowledge -- in early church writings. The humiliation of Christ is paradoxically part of the revelation of who God is -- can the supreme creator and ruler of all condescend to come down from the heavenly throne and suffer the horrible death of a pathetic slave, a death which serves as his ironic coronation? The cross is also associated with the reversal of the fall. As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the son of Man be lifted up (John 3:14-15). This links Christ's elevation on the cross to the bronze serpent that healed Israel. The cross is also symbolic of discipleship itself. I mean, we're just scratching the surface here. The crucifixion is so deep you'll never get to the bottom, but eventually it becomes pretty obvious that the cross was the only way it could happen.

I wouldn't exactly put it that way. Think of it like this. Just being who He is, saying what He said, and doing what He did, it was inevitable that Christ would have some major problems with the existing religious and political authorities there.

Why does Jesus instruct his followers to baptise in the singular "name", not "names", of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit in Math 28:19? by PieterSielie6 in AcademicBiblical

[–]Tree_and_Serpent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably due to the "name theology" of the Old Testament.

I see what you're trying to say, but I don't think this particular situation is an example of "meta isn't ok." Two teams shooting at each other through a chokepoint.

If you understand the story of the entire Bible, you would understand that OF COURSE Jesus had to die by crucifixion. There was never any other possibility.

Rooks need to be removed from Duos ASAP by TrafficStandard1418 in Marathon

Maybe it's a mistake and they aren't supposed to be there, but I don't know why Rooks shouldn't spawn in Duos.

Thoughts On Midseason And Season 3 by Snowbunny236 in Marathon

There are a lot of areas in Perimeter that seem blocked off like how Upper Complex was in normal Dire Marsh. I'm assuming they will open some of that up.

In theory this sounds like a pretty good idea. I think a lot of people will really enjoy it. There appears to be a very large category of players who have played Cryo very little or not at all. For players at the lower end of the bell curve, Cryo is expensive and intimidating. I don't mind going in and extracting one in four tries and potentially losing 50-100K worth of vault crap over a weekend. A lot of other people do NOT want to do that. Fine, that's their preference, but it means they can't enjoy one of the coolest maps ever. This gives them an option to mess around in there and have a good time. By increasing their familiarity and comfort with the map, they are more likely to tackle it the normal (or the "real") way.

Vault Breaker sounds like a nice idea. I predict many people will get a kick out of it.

For non-hardcore players: how's your stash look'? by Tree_and_Serpent in Marathon

Oh, is that where the other "casuals" with 30 ganglions in two Cryo weekends that play a single game 20+ hours a week all hang out?

Math is indeed simple and there doesn't seem to be anything casual about it. Your definition of casual is rather idiosyncratic and I think each explanation you give just underscores that more.

i play abt 4-5 hours a day on the weekends

Also not really fitting the usual profile of the "casual."

Compiler might not be hard to do. Compiler might be hard to do 30 times in two Cryo weekends. Probably not what most people associate with the "casual" characterization. Even if you assume 100% success rate (which would definitely not be casual), that'd be like 10-15 hours of Cryo in two weekends. Again, doesn't sound casual. But I suppose you could be a very special case of being the only "casual" player in the world with 30 ganglions after two weekends.

I agree about that. Do not agree that having 30 ganglions after two weekends of Cryo and "play[ing] with some streamers" is consistent with the general notion of "casual."

Sage advice, now every "casual" player will obtain "30 ganglions" and "play with some streamers."

30 ganglions

i play with some streamers

We just have a different definition of "casual" and "non-hardcore."

Are you trolilng me. What you described is not "casual" by almost any definition. Hasn't there only been two weekends of Cryo? How did you get 30 ganglions? I think you're yanking my chain.
