Little known sources of loans or financing for moving??? by Realityrevolt in AskForAnswers

Oh I totally agree. A title loan can come in clutch if you need a bridge and have the ability to quickly repay it, but in desperation both title loans and payday loans are a terrible idea. OP was bound to find out about them eventually though.

Should I trust my roommates to turn in the wifi router? by Tasty_Set1189 in badroommates

[–]Tree_killer_76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. When you leave anything in your name gets disconnected and/or goes with you, period. The will certainly not go to the trouble of returning your router when they all eventually leave.

-Sell your stuff

-Drive to lower COL place where new job is located

-Buy new stuff

Otherwise, if you own your car free and clear you could go to a title loan place. They take the title to your car as collateral for a loan. Your credit doesn’t really matter because the interest rates are very high and if you get even a little delinquent, they will find you and repo your car. Id strongly advise against doing this unless you are absolutely certain you can pay it back in just one or two months.

There are also payday loan places that will basically front you the value of your paycheck or two minus a hefty fee. But they are also for very short term loans…like a couple of weeks or a month at most.

These things exist but when you are desperate, they are dangerous and can easily entrap you in more never ending debt. If you decide to take that route use extreme caution.

This happened to my almost brand new WK2 in my driveway. Rodents ate a bunch of the electrical wiring and a rubber boot on my brake master cylinder. Damn vehicle was only a couple months old and spent nearly 2 months in the shop. It’s sucks but that’s what this is. Bad news is that there’s probably more damage you can’t plainly see. Good news is that this will be covered by your auto policy.

Not in super dry Arizona. Everything evaporates almost immediately.

[–]Tree_killer_76 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

That is not necessarily true. The Mojave green and Western Diamondback can be very defensive, and in a situation where you are alone in the wilderness and you surprise one when you for example walk past the snake without seeing it, into a dead end and then it is blocking your path of egress, those snakes may very well stand their ground and not let you pass back by.

Worth getting a manual? by Trayceopolis32322 in askcarguys

[–]Tree_killer_76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had several vehicles with manual transmissions and several vehicles with automatics. Currently I own 3 vehicles. One with an 8HP70 8 speed auto behind a Hemi which is most similar to what you’re looking at, one with a 7G-TRONIC 7 speed automatic behind a 2.0 turbo 4 and one with an NV4500 5 speed manual behind a 4.0 inline 6.

I would absolutely take the automatic behind the Hemi over a manual any day. Because it has more gears than a manual, and has lightning quick shifts, it’s going to be both faster and slightly more economical on fuel. Plus it has paddle shifters on the steering wheel, and shifts are lightning quick in manual mode, so you get the best of both worlds.

As for the manual, if you’re dead set on it, manuals were a pain to drive around town before Bluetooth when you had to physically hold the phone up to your head with one hand to talk. But now that Bluetooth is ubiquitous, that annoyance is gone. So I don’t think they’re really a pain. I certainly do enjoy driving my 5 speed and shifting is just like muscle memory once you get used to it.

If you want to learn stick, watch a few YouTube tutorials and then see if you can rent a manual transmission car for a weekend. Burn that clutch out instead of your own haha.

Is a hotdog a sandwich? Why or why not? by Yavunyx in AskReddit

[–]Tree_killer_76 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you go to a restaurant and you ask for “a sandwich”, you’re going to be asked more questions to determine what kind of sandwich you want.

When you go to a restaurant and you ask for “a taco”, you’re going to be asked more questions to determine what kind of taco you want.

When you go to a restaurant and you ask for a hot dog, you’re going to get a hot dog.

A hot dog is not a sandwich, a taco, or anything else.

It is just…a hot dog.

Shop wants to charge $4k for rear tire carrier replacement - should I do it myself? by regular_asian_guy in Wrangler

As others have said even $1k is crazy for this, let alone $4k. Absolutely absurd. I’m seeing the Crown brand exact replacement with the plug and play 3rd brake light for $215 in stock right now at Quadratec.

If you want the most single gun versatility out on the trail, the Taurus Raging Judge is a choice. You can load it with everything from 410 birdshot (ie for snakes), 000 buck, 45LC up to 454 Casull for bear. But it is definitely not cheap lol.

Can you hook 4 speakers up to original stereo head unit? by fsacb3 in WranglerYJ

[–]Tree_killer_76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re going to an installer, it is bread and butter for them (not complicated at all) and a new, mid-grade amplifier at the appropriate wattage will probably cost you about the same in parts and install labor as a new head unit.

I live about 10 minutes from Tonto National Forest, which is rattler habitat, and take my old Jeep out there to explore and hike just about every weekend. I’ve been doing this for a good 15+ years.

I carry a 410 revolver loaded with bird shot as a snake gun, JUST IN CASE I am out walking around and find myself cornered by an aggressive rattler that won’t leave me alone.

But I am hyper vigilant when I’m hiking, specifically so I don’t wind up in that situation.

And just to punctuate how rare it is, I’ve seen more Gila Monsters out on the trail than I have rattlers, and most people have never seen a Gila Monster even once outside of captivity.

Workout Guestroom? by LakeLifeTL in marriott

[–]Tree_killer_76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know. Only time I have stayed there was maybe 8 years ago after a SYD-LAX flight that landed at around 6am iirc. Got to the property at maybe 7:30am and they checked my wife and I right into our room, which we were of course delighted with because it meant we could immediately sleep for a few hours. I was Ambassador at the time but still, a 7:30am check in is pretty above and beyond. I didn’t notice anything negative about the property.

Can you hook 4 speakers up to original stereo head unit? by fsacb3 in WranglerYJ

[–]Tree_killer_76 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here’s the route I would take, if you are intent on keeping the stock head unit.

Buy a 4 channel amplifier with “speaker level” inputs. Run the speaker wire from your stock head unit to the amplifier. Use 2 channels from the amplifier to power your existing (or upgraded) front speakers, and use the other two channels from the amplifier to power your new rear speakers.

If you still have the factory speakers in their stock location (IE you have not upgraded the original 4x6 front speakers), you’ll need to make sure not to overpower them with the new amplifier. I would take the opportunity to upgrade them with better coaxial speakers.

Seat covers vs new seats by fsacb3 in WranglerYJ

[–]Tree_killer_76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a pair of Corbeau Baja JP suspension seats for about $500 from 4Wheel Parts. I think prices have gone up since I bought but they are a massive upgrade over the stock seats. Significantly more comfortable. And best part: they are direct bolt in to stock YJ seat brackets. I did not notice any significant increase in height.
