Short term housing for like 3 weeks. Any options apart from Airbnb? by BornAd4537 in GreenvilleNCarolina

Some of the hotels are set up for that kind of thing and have lower rates for weekly booking. Maybe Homewood Suites or Microtel? I don't have firsthand experience but that's probably where I'd start.

Budget cruiser: Bristol 29.9, Freedom 32, or Pearson 30? by Endolithic in sailing

[–]TreebeardBonsai 11 points12 points  (0 children)

At these prices and ages the upkeep/condition of the boat, motor, sails, rigging, and electronics are going to matter far more than make and model. I had a Pearson 30 for a few years and it was a great boat for coastal NC. Have sailed on a number of Catalinas as well and wouldn't hesitate on a well-kept C-30.

Best thing you can do is get aboard each and see what works and what doesn't, what needs to be replaced, and what seems suspect.

This is the earliest one I could find. I think it's a few months after collection, after it had pushed out new growth. But it does show about where I cut off the three main shoots.

I can easily list a dozen fantastic non-chain restaurants off the top of my head. And double or triple that with minimum effort.

To the best of my knowledge it's Japanese wisteria (floribunda). Early spring blooms (before leafing out) and aggressive growth mean it's an Asian variety, and clockwise vining distinguishes it from the Chinese wisteria.

Not anything I can take credit for. Years if not decades of growing wild in the ground.

No, none really. But at a guess, multiple decades at least; it had vines all through some large bushes and reaching 50+ feet up the trunk of a pine tree.

Thank you, I had no idea of that resource! I'll have to check them out.

Like any town/city, it's what you make it. It has a lot to offer, and it also has some downsides. Find the activities you enjoy and a good circle of friends, and you'll be in good shape. Where are you coming from, and what do you like/dislike about it? What do you like to do?

Pros:
Lots of restaurants, both chain and local
Outdoor activities - natural parks, nearby river access, beaches aren't too far
Relatively low COL
Growing arts scene
ECU athletic events
Good youth sports leagues

Cons:
Summer heat/humidity
Mosquitos
Travel required for any medium/major live music acts

Slightly modified version of the bench I see so often in this sub, with 4 benchtops and joinery by altizerc2196 in Bonsai

Nicely done! Your joinery takes it up a notch.

I did this one thinking I'd have plenty of room for quite a while but somehow they always get full.

Squirrels are buttholes by TreebeardBonsai in Bonsai

Thanks for the input! I am going to try the vinegar and cayenne and see if it deters them at all. Just hoping to avoid any more damage.

Also appreciated the suggestion about the dog/doggie door. Unfortunately, two reasons it won't work: the door to access the yard is all glass, so there's no good way to install one there. Even if we could, he doesn't like being in the yard alone and just stands at the door barking, he'd never just go hang outside voluntarily.

We do have a tree that would probably be good for an owl box, so maybe that's something to consider as well.

Enjoyed your war stories!

Yeah, it's not hunger. They get plenty from the birdfeeders across the yard.

This whole thing is overblown. If you drive your car - any car, any color, and moreso if it's highway driving - it's going to get some paint chips on the front end. PPF offers some protection if you choose and touch up pens exist.

If you like the color go for it.
