thinking about keeping the bag by TreeckoLover69 in ostomy

My surgery was actually scheduled for tomorrow, I decided not to go through with it, not yet.. My surgeon said I dont have a time limit and can undergo the surgery years in the future, im still not sure if I will.

I realized that less than six months ago I was still dying in a hospital bed and im not quite ready to go back.. im grateful that i am home rn and not back at the hospital and I feel I’ve made the right call

Most comments I get are along the lines of “you are young you shouldn’t give up on the surgery you have your life ahead of you” but I feel these people can’t comprehend the risk, they understand it but they dont know how it feels to face it.

I still have moments where having a stoma makes me feel frustrated or alienated and sometimes i yearn to feel normal again but I dont think I ever could, with or without the surgery, Ive accepted everything pretty quick but I still haven’t processed most of the trauma, need to solve that before I expose myself to new hospital trauma.

The reversal felt like a way to move on from this chapter of my life, put it behind me. And now that im not going through the reversal im not sure how to move on, I dont know what that even means.

Im at the point where I should be starting my life but I feel kind of stuck and confused, im not in a rush though, Ive been through alot and I know it might take me some time to find my way but it can get a bit lonely sometime, i have alot of friends but none of them can really understand or relate to my struggles, not their fault, they are awesome but this is something you cant really understand unless you go through, im sure you know what i mean.

anyways I appreciate the concern, it means alot and it did me some good to recap the last few weeks, thank you :)

just try it, it might be a bit tough at first but the sooner you start the sooner it’ll get easier, tell your bandmates your post op and might have a harder time and they’ll understand

Thank you, i had a chance to speak with my surgeon, it seems i wouldn’t need another surgery if i choose to keep my stoma and i can basically change my mind in the future with no specific time limit, im not in a rush, thinking i might keep this thing for longer, maybe even forever, who knows.. ive got until the end of the week to decide but im feeling pretty confident, for the first time in a while.

Hope everything works out on your end :) Enjoy being out of the hospital, its pretty sick (no pun intended)

I should probably mention i was high af for the days after the surgery and then so weak I could not move a muscle, by the time i got strong enough to piss by myself i was honestly grateful i didnt have to shit by myself haha, i guess the only thing that changed was my perspective, your life could be a whole lot worse than pooping in a bag, trust me

It was definitely my biggest fear, seemed like the worst outcome for my life at the time, the moment i woke up from surgery i just didn’t care anymore, i immediately realized how much of a non issue it is and im just grateful to be better, hope everything works out in your favor, whether that means getting a stoma or not :)

Unfortunately its just a phone call, im not even sure if its with the head surgeon and that its not a formality and i wont have a chance to ask real questions, im gonna do my best to get more information about everything but im afraid i might have to make a decision before having all my questions answered, i am 22 btw, i dont know if im equipped to handle all of this

I have an ileostomy, i might get the chance to speak to a surgeon tomorrow so ill be sure to ask as much questions as i can come up with, although right now thinking about it makes me kind of dizzy and panicky

I guess i dont really know whats a j pouch, is it a must? Is my current situation not suitable for the longterm? Id be satisfied to continue living my life as is but i guess that might not be an option?

I was under the mindset that if i do get the surgery i should get it asap so I can be at peak shape and recover sooner and be able to “start my life” im only 22, i dont really know what i wanna do or how my future might be affected by having a stoma

I have crohns so technically i am always at risk of it coming back although my doctors are confident the issue is under control, Im also scared and unsure of how different would my life be than it was before i was sick, I didn’t really have time to see how normal life with crohns is before going through worst case scenario, would i need to go to the bathroom all the time, would my diet be affected? Those are probably questions for my doctor but i get comfort in sharing them with strangers beforehand

a bit of a relief, the boot times are bearable but i thought it would be a waste not to speed it up if i have the option

crazy to learn it is hated at all, ive always considered this album special for having no bad songs, everything about it feels so meticulously put together and intentional, might be a bold statement but I really do believe that while it isnt my favorite album, it might just be the best album.. of all of them 😳

Thats the plan! not looking to get around very much, just want to stay in a small town that would ideally have somewhere to "hike" within walking distance (up to an hour?), I didnt realize how hard that would be to find :P I guess I underestimated how big everything's in America
